What were you wearing immediately after giving birth?

Random question of the day!

I was naked barring a flimsy bikini top (what I was wearing at delivery) until about 6 hours after DS was born. I'd had spinal so couldn't sort myself out.

It was hot so I didn't mind that so much, but felt very exposed!

What were you wearing? When were you able to change?

Crop top and dressing gown, t'wasn't that bothered tbh Wink

VisualiseAHorse · 08/09/2014 13:37

I was naked! Then once I'd showered I wore pj bottoms and a shirt and a cardi to go home in.

Hopelass · 08/09/2014 13:39

I was leaving hospital 4 hours after DS was born so after my stitches and shower I wore some nice stretchy leggings and a baggy top to go home in.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 08/09/2014 13:42

Night shirt, nice new one in hospital with DD1, changed into day clothes as soon as possible, felt an utter idiot in night clothes when I wasn't ill and wanted to go home. DD1 wouldn't BF, in the end I just lied and said she had. I hated the overheated goldfish bowl that was the PN ward.

Scruffy old night shirt after DD2's Home birth as there was no one to see or care - Bliss Grin

Was that a good thing to be out so quick Hopelass?

How long were you naked for Visualise that sounds so wrong ?

I couldn't have a shower - had to have a bedbath Hmm

I had a shower after about 2hrs and put on a bf vest and pj bottoms / "lounge" trousers. It was night. But I basically wore that combo day and night for the next week :)

callamia · 08/09/2014 13:43

I was naked. I had a shower, then I put a jumper and pyjama pants on.

MissCalamity · 08/09/2014 13:52

nursing crop top, but it was soaking wet from being in the birthing pool. Put a clean one on, pair of knickers & nursing nightie to walk to the ward (it was boiling so now need for a dressing gown)

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2014 13:57

A hospital gown.
I had a emcs both times.

Cariad007 · 09/09/2014 00:01

I was naked for the birth and then for the rest of the stay I just wore the big black pants that everyone is advised to get and a crop top. Note: I had DS in a birth centre so I stayed the night in the room there with DP. Had I been on a postnatal ward then I'd probably have worn a few more clothes!

MrsBungle · 09/09/2014 00:05

I was naked. I took my night dress of when they were born for skin to skin. The midwife covered my modesty with sheets. After my shower, I wore yoga pants and a vest top.

Lj8893 · 09/09/2014 00:10

I just had my t shirt on that i had been wearing all day (didn't have time to change into my xxl t shirt i planned to wear for giving birth!)

dd stopped breathing as i was having skin to skin soon after giving birth and had to be recussed. I don't really remember any of what happened (although dp, dm and dmil remember very clearly!) but i do remember one lovely midwife pulling my top down for me as i was exposed and clearly in too much shock to even realise. Funny what you remember hey!

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 09/09/2014 00:13

A hospital gown. Gave birth in the US. Couldn't wait to get it off. So impractical!

MagpieMama · 09/09/2014 00:17

Hospital gown, I think they got me to put it on when they gave me the drip and epidural (had an induction), can't remember exactly though!

Lally112 · 09/09/2014 00:18

hospital gown.

chocolatedonut · 09/09/2014 00:38

My nightie that I gave birth in. A while later only a stretchy vest top for skin to skin. Bottom half covered with the bed sheet. Had a shower about 2 hours later and changed into comfy loose pjs! Smile

Eminybob · 09/09/2014 00:55

I was naked from 3cm dialated until about 4 hours after the birth (as I got in the bath while in observation then next examined while in the bath and was fully dialated. Didn't have time to put any clothes on!)
Then put on a cheap primark nighty after shower and onto the ward.

Minesril · 09/09/2014 12:05

Blood-soaked hospital gown.

Changed into my husband's pyjama top later that evening.

Put on a really pretty maternity dress after a shower the next morning!

IHeartLockhart · 09/09/2014 13:03

I was naked (water birth) and then carried on being naked for a good 4 hours I think. Did have sheets covering me though.
I just remember being so euphoric and knackered, I kept grinning and yawning at anyone that came near me.

littlejohnnydory · 09/09/2014 22:43

I was wearing just a t shirt, naked from waist down but was at home so didn't really care! Had a shower after a couple of hours and put pyjamas on! I'm trying to remember what I was wearing after first birth (in hospital) and I'm not sure but I have a vague memory of a midwife helping me put pants and maternity pad on (how dignified)! I' sure I was wearing something when I went to the ward as I don't remember feeling naked.

happypotamus · 10/09/2014 11:37

I gave birth in a t-shirt that I'd thrown on to travel to the hospital (not sure why I bothered to get dressed in the early hours of the morning, and didn't ever get round to changing once I got to hospital). After a hour or so I had a shower and put on the extra-large nightie I'd bought to wear in labour.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 10/09/2014 11:40

Just the blood and goo stained vest top I gave birth in until I had that wonderful first poet birth shower then it was nightie, granny pants and two brick sized maternity towels! Grin

magicalmrmistofelees · 10/09/2014 11:41

We were discharged 3 hours after birth, so the jeans and jumper is turned up in that morning!

usualnamechanger · 10/09/2014 11:45

Nude. Hospital gown for 6 days afterwards. Emcs

Squeakyheart · 10/09/2014 11:46

I wore my wooly jumper for the birth as it was a very quick unexpected home birth and then my really grotty torn dressing gown to go to the hospital as my lovely new one was in the hospital bag in the car. I kept apologising to everyone for the state of it, then a t shirt and then jogging pants for the trip home!
