What were you wearing immediately after giving birth?

Random question of the day!

I was naked barring a flimsy bikini top (what I was wearing at delivery) until about 6 hours after DS was born. I'd had spinal so couldn't sort myself out.

It was hot so I didn't mind that so much, but felt very exposed!

What were you wearing? When were you able to change?

1 - baggy nightshirt
2 - bra and T-shirt (dc2 was nearly born into my jeans!)
3 - nothing (waterbirth)

But anything I was wearing came off within seconds as I was desperate for the skin-to-skin.

Midwives piled blankets and towels over me and dc, as I get terrible cold shakes after giving birth. I stayed that way until all stitching was done, and we'd had lots of cuddles, then I was wheeled off for a shower, then into PJs and up to the ward.

Vest and pants, bit took myself off for a shower quite quickly and put pjs on.

purplemurple1 · 10/09/2014 13:09

I put knickers on as soon as I was stitched as I felt fine therefore a bit weird sitting there naked having a chat with the midwife. I know that sounds daft!

Only1scoop · 10/09/2014 13:11

An oversized shirt nightie from la Senza....

CatWitch · 10/09/2014 13:15

I was naked for the birth and then changed into a huge soft tshirt and those weird disposable knickers.

For hospital discharge I wore yoga pants and another oversize tshirt.

scrivette · 10/09/2014 13:18

I was naked (possibly with a towel around my waist) for an hour or so until after my shower when I went to the ward in baggy pyjama bottoms and a vest top.

MrsPear · 10/09/2014 13:19

No joys of staying in bed with ds2. He was whisked away -prem - midwife patted me between the legs with a paper towel and said your fine get up and shower. I must have puffed or something as she snapped he was only tiny some women have proper labour. At that point i got up showered and put on yoga pants, vest and cardi plus undies of course and a brick towel. Even dh said she was a rude cow who looked bored.

I had a maternity nightshirt with poppers down the front for easy access to my boobs. Showered and changed into a clean one.

treaclesoda · 10/09/2014 13:27

cheap Primark night shirt for dc1 - had long, sweaty labour followed by emcs and it was another day after cs until I was allowed to wash. Spent a day lying in bed with nightie covered in blood and meconium Hmm

dc2 also emcs but not quite as emergency as the first one so was changed into hospital gown. And was washed after surgery too, so it was all very civilised. Smile

Hideous primark nightie, that was covered in blood, poo and meconium Confused

Replaced shortly afterwards by another hideous Primark nightie, that was at least clean....

Memphisbelly · 10/09/2014 21:25

Bought a black button front nightie that I have birth in, 20 mins after I had been stitched I put on big knickers, pj bottoms and a vest top.....no nra which I regretted when I got onto ward and FIL walked in.... Told dh no visitors this time except ds (if I have to stay in.

notquiteruralbliss · 11/09/2014 20:54

Nothing for the birth (was at home). Low slung skinny jeans, converse and t shirt after as I needed to go to the supermarket.

theendoftheendoftheend · 11/09/2014 20:58

mrspear that's awful!
Sorry nothing to add as I honestly have no idea what I was wearing after any of mine!

theendoftheendoftheend · 11/09/2014 20:59

notquite" Shock

redexpat · 13/09/2014 14:04

Was naked for the birth - my god I've never been so hot. I had bought a very big mans shirt from a charity shop to give birth in, so put that back on when the porter came to wheel me out.

Acorncat · 13/09/2014 14:57

I had a tankini top in the pool which was whipped off as soon as he was born for skin to skin. I was naked after for stitches and feeding, though with blankets on so didn't feel exposed. Then shower and normal clothes.

elliejjtiny · 17/09/2014 21:45

DS1 - DH's t-shirt, then into another one of DH's t-shirts (home waterbirth)
DS2 - my favourite mothercare nightie (I'd been wearing it that night and no time to change), then pj's (hospital birth)
DS3 - DH's rugby shirt, then pj's (hospital birth)
DS4 - hospital gown, then nightie (EMCS)
DS5 - same nightie as for DS2, then DH's t-shirt (EMCS)

Felt really weird wearing my normal nightie during my C-section with DS5, like being at school without uniform.

MummytoMog · 20/09/2014 00:21

Hospital gown and giant pads folded round my crotch by the theatre nurse after forceps delivery with DD. She went to SCBU and I got dumped on a post natal ward with an empty IV bag and nothing to drink. Sigh. Then in the morning, had shower and got dressed as thought I would be discharged. No such luck.

DS I think I wore the giant old birthing t shirt while waiting to be stitched and then got naked to BF, with some sheets for modesty. Then it was into pjs for bed (no nighties for me after the world and his wife rocked up to ogle my hairy legs after DD was born).

Azquilith · 20/09/2014 00:31

I have no fucking idea!

LittleBlueHermit · 21/09/2014 09:59

I think I was naked. I'd been wearing a hospital gown during the pushing stage, but that seemed to disappear at some point. Didn't put clothes on for two days (though obviously i had blankets on) until IV lines and catheter were removed, then finally got to put on a bf singlet and track pants.

NotCitrus · 21/09/2014 10:34

Nothing - put on a T-shirt 2 days later (private room in hospital, we had to stay for 4 days), thankfully about 5 minutes before my dad walked in!
Was attached to catheters for first 20 hours, then it was just too hot and never occurred to me. Not 100% sure if I put a gown on to go to the loos, now you mention it...

Only 1 night with dd (didn't want to but after 3 hours throwing up it was midnight and staying in the bed I was in seemed the best plan) - got dressed as soon as drips etc were removed the next morning.
