Waters trickling since 4:30am but no contractions

This is DC2. With dd I had contractions for a few hours, my waters broke and she was born about an hour later.

I'm 40+2 and would love another homebirth... Think I'm just going to text my midwife and see what they say but am so reluctant to get induced if nothing happens......

Have sent DH off to work (luckily he's v local today) and dd is going to nursery as normal for the morning - they are on standby to have her for the afternoon too if necessary.

Not sure why I'm posting really!

With ds2 my waters trickled from the early morning but contractions didnt kick in till late evening. I went to the hospital and was told to get a thermometer and monitor my temperature and to come back in the next morning if labour hadnt started. I was on my feet all day (in a good way - ds1 at nursery and I was determined to be as active as possible) and when the contractions started with a vengeance, the labour progressed very quickly indeed and ds2 was born about 2am.

This doesn't really tell you anything except you won't necessarily end up being induced!

Planning to carry on as normal today - DH might come home soon as he said he can't concentrate. We've got plenty of little jobs to do at home and some last minute nipping about so hopefully we can keep active and busy. Sitting around dwelling on what us it isn't happening would do my head in!!

Midwife said that as long as waters are clear and baby is moving then sit tight and call the hosp at lunchtime (supposed to phone in for homebirths too) if no contractions by then.

Wonder if I can still use the birth pool?

I got in birthing pool but ended up giving birth on the steps!

But they didn't say not to due to infection risk??

Few rumbles but feels like the baby rather than my body if that makes sense...... Clary sage bath in a bit methinks.

Took 6 hrs from waters breaking til first contraction with DS1.
Not sure about the pool, but they were happy for me to go to the Midwife lead unit til my temprature spiked and I was constantly throwing up 12 hrs after waters broke, so I was still low risk til then.

Fingers crossed for later on then! Am hoping dd will be in bed when it happens as family politics mean we'd rather keep her home than ship her off out.

Doing my head in this waiting though - patience is not one of my strong points!!

Ugh. So midwife came at about 4pm to do a swab to see if it is definitely my waters (it is) and book me in for an induction at 8am tomorrow . Induction is my worst nightmare so hopefully this baby will appear before then, or at least be on it's way...... Gulp.

I'm a bit tired after abd early start and a tad grouchy due to the pressure of getting this baby out - but I think there are some mild contractions happening so fingers crossed this will all be underway soon.

Dd went to bed like a dream so in an ideal world she'll wage up to a new baby brother or sister!!

My waters trickled with dd1 and they gave me 24 hours for things to get going. Although contractions started they were very mild and so I had to be induced. It wasn't too bad, 12 hours from induction to birth. I would have been able to use the pool but someone was in it. Good luck, and I hope the contractions start soon for you.

Oh, how exciting! My midwife told me that second and third babies often arrive at night as the mother is ready knowing the older dcs are safe in bed. Hope that's the case for you.

Contractions are about 15-30s long about 2m30-3m apart. Going to call the hosp in a mo to ensure they can get someone out for my home birth.

Contractions have slowed down, they pick up a bit when I move around but I'm v tired. No call from comm mw's but labour ward mw's recommend getting some rest rather than staying active. I'm just worried that will stop things altogether and I'll lose valuable time before due in at 8am.

Got a decent nights sleep somehow. Some contractions were quite full on but they were few and far between really.

At the hospital now with the ctg on. Hopefully they'll send us home

Midwife advised us of risks of not inducing etc. said it would be a long wait for the doc to come over as delivery ward v busy. We asked if he'd say anything different to what she has said, she said no so we've asked to go home and can do a self-discharge thing.

Good plan. Can't see staying in and waiting as bringing on labour. Get home, get some music on and start jigging away, get that baby out

Got out at 11 after a snooze and a chat with the consultant anyway. He was v pragmatic and said come back tomorrow for the same, no real pressure to induce tomorrow either so feel a bit happier about that. He also said I'm not that overdue (40+3 today) so it sounded like they'd be happy to wait a bit longer overall. It's just whether my sanity can wait!!
