how long should I be in hospital after planned section

just wondering if anyone feels like they came home too early? I have a three year old who is boisterous so am thinking I might need a bit more time to recuperate but then I don't want to be having a horrific time being ignored.

I was in for 3 nights with ds but it would have been less if he'd have been feeding properly.

3 days was enough because I had stuff to do at home.
Luckily dh was on paternity leave for 2 weeks so I was very fortunate.

Do you have support at home?

I was in two nights with DS1 but he wasn't born till 10pm so the first night wasn't really a full night.

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and expecting an ELCS, I think I'll try and stay an extra day this time just to give more time with baby before I return to a toddler!

That said I didn't like the nights as I found them lonely and scary and cried lots.

2 nights. Possibly could have gone even earlier but had urinary retention so had to have catheter in for another 24 hrs.

Got little sleep due to noisy ward.
Midwifes kept forgetting to bring painkillers despite me repeatedly asking so I was left in pain.
Got told off for having DS in bed with me.

So couldn't wait to get home!

2 nights, first baby
Would've self-discharged after the first night if I could've run away, it was a really horrible place on the PN ward.

Asking repeatedly for painkillers that never came, sarcastic & unhelpful comments from midwives about CS not being the easy option (had CS for maternal request).

If you have toddlers at home I suppose I can see why you might want to stay longer. Personally I'd want to get the hell out of there ASAP!

I went home on day one (it was an emcs not an elcs). They offered and I figured I was mobile and if at home I would have the same plain killers and my husband to help. The first night home was tricky but I don't regret it.

Dd2 was born at 18:46pm on a Tuesday by elcs, we went home at 3pm on the Friday. My choice to stay so long because I had no complications. Took advantage of the private room and ensuite and dp stayed with us the whole time. Meant we both got some sleep as the midwives regularly took the baby.

One night - ds born at 11am on Monday, home by 3pm on Tuesday - would've been quicker but took them ages to do my discharge papers for some reason

Born at 2am Thursday and was home by 6pm Friday. Not quite two nights! Technically speaking it was an emcs, but it was only because I went into labour a week before the elcs date so I was in v early labour when they performed the section hence it being done at 2am!

I was in 5 nights after a planned section at 1030 on the Thursday.

My milk hadn't came in yet, and DS was a little jaundiced.

I danced out of the place!!

I went home the next day. The key is to get up and moving ASAP without hurting yourself as soon as I could feel my legs I was out the bed walking tall around the room (try not to walk hunched over) didn't see any point in me being there when i could do the same at home

DS4 was born on Monday and I came home on the Thursday (he stayed in special care for another 3 weeks). DS5 was born on Friday and we came home the following Friday. They wanted to discharge me on the Tuesday but DS5 was in special care and nearly ready to come out so I begged them to let me stay in so we could go home together.

I have a wonderful husband who will look after me but it might be easier if I am away for longer. I was in hospital min-Thursday time as induced and baby was born early early wed morning.

I think I was so exhausted I just wanted to come home but this time I think it be a bit different?

If it helps mine was an induction,It started monday and I had the cs on wednesday morning. I just didn't like the idea of being in the hospital for longer than I felt I needed to taking that bed away from somebody else who actually needed it and my DS was 2 weeks late so he was fine. They agreed he could come home after his hospital checks.

You can only see how you feel tbh and not going to lie there was no pain like getting in to a my mums stupid convertible the day after a c-section! but was worth it

I only stayed 1 night after my c section for DD as my boisterous 3 year old DS wasn't coping well with me being in hospital - I nearly self discharged when they said I would stay another night. It might be better if you have family but we were relying on friends and he was getting stressed. I was in 1 night before as well.

I'm booked for my second ELCS on Wednesday. First time round I was in for 2 nights - DD born at 12.30 on Friday, discharged around 5pm Sunday. I've been told that the rule of thumb is babies born by CS after 12 noon should equal 3 nights stay; babies born before 12 noon should equal 2 nights.

I was in for 2 nights after my ELSC. I asked if I could be discharged after the second night as the ward was noisy and I just wanted to be at home with DH. When the midwife weighed DS at home the next day he had lost a lot of weight and ended up back in hospital in the neonatal unit and I was put back on the ward for another few nights until DS started gaining weight. With hindsight it probably would have been less stressful if I had stayed in hospital until DS was weighed on Day 3.

Is there a correct answer to this? Isn't it a bit like how long is a piece of string?

I was told 3 nights was normal at the hospital I'm going to, but it depended on how well things went. Sometimes they discharge earlier or later depending on your and the baby's health.

12hrs with my first and 36hrs with my second. I was desperate to get home second time round. I really missed my oldest.

12 hours? That must have hurt. I went from the maternity unit to the x ray department in a wheelchair 14 hours after my section with DS5 and it was agony.

The community midwife said that if all is well then 48 hours after a first section and 24 hours after a 2nd is normal discharge time at our hospital. I stayed longer though as DS4 and DS5 were both in SCBU.

I was v fortunate not to experience any pain either time. I was up and about from a couple of hours post section and better off at home really.

2nd ELCS in April, I spent two nights in hospital, which was more than I wanted. So glad to be home!

I went in on Monday morning for a section at 10am, was home by Tuesday lunchtime. I have a two year old and I missed her abominably. It was fine. My planned section was a breeze compared to the EMCS with DD1. I certainly don't find hospitals the best place to rest and recuperate but your experience may be different.

My hospital had a standard time of 5 days till you finish the injections but they let you go home if babies fine.

My emcs was caused of my BP being 160/120 and I went into cardiac arrest, 3 hours later I had a pulse of140 bmp sitting down and I was still allowed home 24 hours later. If you want to go home you can lol
