With my labour with ds, the first thing I remember, and oddly the clearest, was my bowels emptying and then contractions started (during Eastenders )

How many other people had this?

I remember wanting them to do so but feeling totally bunged up instead . Spent at least 2 hours on the loo before I realised what was happening!!

Charlee · 27/07/2006 20:35

Apparently im told its quite normal for you to have a bout of dioreah (sp?) before going into labour aparently its the bodys way of clearing you out before labour, some people on the other hand dont do it before and poo whilst in labour

BonyM · 27/07/2006 20:35

My first labour started this way - 20 mins on the loo and then contractions!

Second labour was completely different though - no clearout!

Sparkler1 · 27/07/2006 20:36

First started with pains which grew stronger and then I was really sick.
Second birth started with a huge gush and then smaller gushes of my waters breaking - dont remember any pains at that point. Definitely got some as the day went on.

YellowFeathers · 27/07/2006 20:37

Yep me too.
Forewaters broke, got out of bed to check I hadn't peed myself, went to the loo had a show and then it felt like my whole insides were about to fall out
Was throwing up too!

Why is something starting?????

Piffle · 27/07/2006 20:39

I never realised I was in labour until transition both times.
Had mild period cramps on and off
Then 3 big sharp intake of breath ones, like really tight braxton hicks
And then wham, shaky vomiting and dashing to hospital. I have never pooed during labour so I guess I must have cleared out beforehand
This time I want a home birth!

lunavix · 27/07/2006 20:42

YF - maybe! I don't often 'clear out' lol as I'm on pregaday tablets and they make you lovely and constipated lol.

It's still a bit early for me though lol (as I put on our aug thread) only 36+5 today I think.

Oooooh exciting

FWIW, I've had diaorreah for 2 days now. Its pretty bad in the mornings tbh. I've also been having period type pains every so often.

Piffle, I want a labour like yours!

hoolagirl · 27/07/2006 21:58

Hmm, 3 days of contractions, kept my big clear out for the labour table

NotAnOtter · 27/07/2006 21:59

me!!!! everytime!

PinkTulips · 27/07/2006 23:02

i sooo knew it'd be you when i saw the thread title luna!

yup mine started this way, although i'd had one or 2 very well spaced contraction the night before, then on the sat my bowls emptied, mild irregular contractions all day and night, show at 3am, more irregular contractions til 9pm sun. then every 2 mins for 18 hours til dd was born.

god i forgot how much fun it all was

cazzybabs · 27/07/2006 23:04

That happened to me with dd1, but not with dd2 resulting in lots of little bits of poo in the birthing pool and midwives fishing it out - ohh the shame!

fattiemumma · 27/07/2006 23:05

the start of wanting to push is a feeling of pressure n your bowels very similar to that of having a poo.

i think that many people will open their bowels during ealry labour as the force of baby coming down will put the added pressure on your bowels and make you feel full...and therefore need to empty.

mummyplonk · 27/07/2006 23:06

yep, with the first I thought "oooh have read about this in a Magazine" must have something to eat now, paraetamol & check labour bag.

Result- can never eat potato skins & dip again, if your body is clearing out it means "no more lady" dont even bother trying to eat anything.

notasheep · 27/07/2006 23:06

during second stage of labour i thought i was having baby and it was a pooh-i was so upset

mummyplonk · 27/07/2006 23:11

How my midwives never mentioned about the curry working is beyond me...but DP NEVER EVER forgets it, the shame. , But it really did work! I honestly dont think I could eat a chicken rogan josh again though.

Thomcat · 27/07/2006 23:19

Well as both mine started due to the fact I downed a bottle of castor oil - yeah!

trix1 · 28/07/2006 17:06

Thomcat - A whole bottle of castor oil? how long did it take for labbour start then?

Mercy · 28/07/2006 17:18

unfortunately no, the poo just came out in dribs and drabs whilst I was pushing. I did throw up massively 2 or 3 times just before the really bang-slamming contractions started though (it took me over a year before I could eat that meal again)

nothing at all wiht ds

sarahlou1uk · 28/07/2006 17:33

From what I can remember, I didn't have any diarrohea (sp?) I just had bad period type pains for a couple of hours and then they got worse. Only on the lower half of my bump though. Of course, when I got into hospital pool, mw was ready with the sieve!!

Miaou · 28/07/2006 17:38

Yes, mine did. (still managed to poo in the pool though, much to dh's amusement )

sweetkitty · 28/07/2006 17:39

During labour with DD2 (homebirth) DP gladly informed me that he erm dealt with this for me, dignity whats that? Love is wiping your other halfs bum in labour

Xavielli · 28/07/2006 18:16

The day before DS was born I had sickness and the squits (natures clearout) so no poop during labour

With DD I pooped on the bed
