How come women don't vomit during it?

When I first got my period I was throwing up for hours. I'm terrified that labour will be the same. Someone reassure me :(

I did.

bigkidsdidit · 08/11/2013 18:32

I've had a twisted ovarian cyst and the pain of that made me vomit. Giving birth - even crowning - didn't. I dot know why Confused ; maybe the pain was different, maybe because I was concentrating?

BetterWithCheese · 08/11/2013 18:32

Sorry I did actually vomit all through my first labour. I started when I was quite early into it and was relaxed. I think it just depends on how your body reacts

MrsCakesPremonition · 08/11/2013 18:34

A lot of women do vomit during childbirth.

Why do you think they don't?

nextphase · 08/11/2013 18:34

Yep, another chucker here. I actually vomited every contraction.
I also blacked out afterwards, as I tried to stand up having spent 12 hrs chucking up.
Thank fuck DS2 only took 2.5 hrs from first contraction to birth.

BackforGood · 08/11/2013 18:34

Some do, (during childbirth I mean) but most people don't vomit because of pain, generally, childbirth or not.

hellsbells76 · 08/11/2013 18:37

Some do but it's usually a response to the contractions as the body reacts to labour by getting rid of anything that might be in the way (food, poo...) Best way to avoid it is to snack lightly in the latent phase and avoid too many stodgy foods (fond memories of my entire delicious pasta with cheesy leeky sauce reappearing in the hospital sink!)

Malkofish · 08/11/2013 18:43

I've been sick lots with period pain, and was really sick during childbirth, sorry! In fact, the firs thing I did when they passed me my beautiful baby was hand her straight back as I was nearly sick on her. Beautiful memory... Worth it though!

runningonwillpower · 08/11/2013 18:50

You can't honestly prepare another woman for labour.

Because it's truly personal. You can't know how it will be for another person. You don't even know how to will be for you second or third time around.

It takes you how it takes you.

For what it's worth, I didn't vomit.

Look at it this way, many many women give birth and go on to have more than one child. So,whatever their personal birth experience, it was oh so worth it.

Here's to you and your new baby whenever she or she arrives!

I've never vomited with any pain (yet!)

Have you considered that it may be because everyone is different?

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2013 18:53

I was such once in my second labour but not through pain I don't think.

I was sick through pain when I had mastitis and was trying to feed ds.

Different kind of pain I think.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 08/11/2013 18:54

I was sick when I had dc1.

elskovs · 08/11/2013 18:55

WTF??? Since when does pain = vomit?? It hurts LOTS, but it doesn't make you puke!!

MimsyBorogroves · 08/11/2013 18:57

I vomit once I'm in the transition stage right through to about an hour after giving birth.

Sorry.

jammiedonut · 08/11/2013 18:58

I did, not from pain but a bad reaction to the one puff of g&a I managed before it was taken away!

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2013 18:59

Also don't worry too much if you're sick. You probably won't care too much at the time. You also might wet yourself and poo Grin

stickysausages · 08/11/2013 18:59

A lot of women vomit during Labour, but I think it's more to do with the drugs, or gas & air.

I felt very sick at one point, but I'd just started the gas & air... it quickly passed though!

I wasn't sick once during pregnancy or Labour, only time I'm sick is when I'm hungover Blush

Please try not to worry, I found the hypnobirthing CDs very helpful, and squished out a very big baby on just gas & air.

If it was that bad, none of us would be here & we'd all be only children.

Trust your body, we are all superwomen Grin

Slippydippysoap · 08/11/2013 19:00

I vomited mid contraction so it went really far. Labour is glam.

NonnoMum · 08/11/2013 19:00

I did with DC1.

But not with the others.

whereisthewitch · 08/11/2013 19:03

I did o much they put me on a drip to stop me, I didn't actually care about the vomiting though as I spent most of my pregnancy doing it.

thing1andthing2 · 08/11/2013 19:04

I vommed all through early labour with dd. stopped by the time I was in established labour. But i actually found the early part the worst. When I vommed with ds (dc2), I knew it was the real thing at that point and called the hospital to give them a heads up.

Weegiemum · 08/11/2013 19:08

I had pregnancy induced kidney stones. I vomited all the time.

Labour was awful, but not as bad as that.

I still vomited a lot.

(I've got a very sensitive up chuck mechanism)

movingaway · 08/11/2013 19:08

I did straight after DC2 was born. I think it was the shock tbh.

Marrow · 08/11/2013 19:10

I vomited during labour but didn't find labour painful. I have experienced more painful things but didn't vomit then. Everybody reacts differently.
