How come women don't vomit during it?

When I first got my period I was throwing up for hours. I'm terrified that labour will be the same. Someone reassure me :(

I vomited in labour, and all I had had to eat or drink was blue powerade so my sick was bright green, lovely!

But I had a very quick labour ( went from 2 cm dilated to 9cm in a hour!) so think it was more my body's way of dealing with the shock of intense pain with very little warning/build up.

I just wanted to add that you shouldn't be worried. Read to empower yourself but don't panic :)

I frigging love the MW and docs/team who helped me give birth. I had some internals and I puked etc. but honestly I didn't feel I'd lost my dignity - AT ALL. I'm not a 'let it all hang out' kinda girl and what I remember was the MW adjusting the sheet on my knees so only she could see and explaining everything to me and generally just being REALLY nice.

There's horror stories if you look for them but there are great stories too. You'll be fine :)

I vomited all the way through my first labour and not at all during my second which I would have said was more painful but shorter.

Mamabear12 · 17/11/2013 20:28

Everyone is different. There are lots of women that dont vomit during labour. I am one of them...two kids and no vomiting! I know others that did not get sick either. I think it really depends on the person and even pregnancy! Its like morning sickness, not everyone gets it. With my first, didnt feel ill at all! Second time around, felt slightly ill every day, but thankfully no vomiting!!!

I vomited after DS was born, but I think it was the morphine rather than the pain. I nearly vomited on him too :)

I don't normally vomit from pain.

weeblueberry · 18/11/2013 23:06

I vomited during labour but didn't find labour painful.

At all??

loopdaloo · 18/11/2013 23:12

Never vomited through pain even with severe gallstones which in my opinion were worse than labour!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 18/11/2013 23:14

Gas and air made me vomit
I hate hate hate being sick so my body seem to know not to be sick when I'm in pain. Lots of other reactions but not being sick

Lumpy76 · 19/11/2013 12:35

I'm on dc7 (36+5). I'm sick within 30mins of giving birth. Started with dc3, which was my 1st fast labour. I fully expect to throw up after this one too. One midwife has told me it's due to the sudden surge in hormones, particularly adrenaline. I wish I wasn't sick cos it ruins the first few minutes after birth cos I feel soooo sick. Once I've been sick I'm ok again. I also wondered whether the gas and air had some affect too as I REALLY take lots of it in!!!!

JollySeriousGiant · 19/11/2013 12:38

I got to hospital, was shown to a room and vomited immediately. Was quite bizarre. I felt fine before and after.

JollySeriousGiant · 19/11/2013 12:39

Dc7?! Wow.

willyoulistentome · 19/11/2013 12:49

yep - me too. Puked plenty.

Locketjuice · 19/11/2013 12:51

I did after through shock because it was horrible and didn't go smoothly at all, second time was quick, pretty easy and no puking Smile

I vomited repeatedly until the epidural finally worked.

I don't have a sensitive chuck mechanism, the pain just did that to me - I have had period pains so strong they make me pass out but labour didn't, although I could not have stood up for any length of time with the amount of pain I was in in labour and I was always standing when fainting with period pain. In fact the first vomit happened when they made me walk to a new room before I could have an epidural.
