Pains on a night at 38 weeks

During the night when I've been asleep for the past week I've been getting really strong period pains and some across my bump. Last night was the strongest I've had yet and nearly brought me to tears!
Has anyone experienced the same or know why this is happening? During the day I just get mild pains occasionally

Sounds like your body warming up for labour - this phase can last weeks though unfortunately, I've been getting it for 1.5 weeks now.

However if the pain gets too much to bear or comes in waves 1 minute long and 5 minutes apart you need to ring delivery suite!

Rachael200694 · 21/08/2013 15:47

I hope it won't be too long away! I've been having mild pains since about 34 weeks which have gradually been getting stronger and more frequent.
So excited for things to get moving!

And thank you for telling me when I should be ringing! Wasn't entirely confident when I should.
Am i right in thinking if you think waters are leaking you should let them know quite quickly?

Also, should you time any strengths of pain? Just had a kinda bad one for a few minutes long now that isn't going off?

Yes, straight away if your waters break as they like baby to be delivered within 48 hours to reduce risk of infection getting in. I think only about 10% of women's waters break before established labour though.

Gerty1002 · 21/08/2013 16:03

If they are really painful yes I would start timing - time how long they last and also how long from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next one.

If you're worried or unsure just ring delivery suite, they don't mind at all and always would rather you ring than sit at home worrying :)

Rachael200694 · 21/08/2013 16:22

Thank you very much you've been a big help! Smile

Will keep an eye on them, seem to have died down again now can just feel pressure, not much pain now!

Hi Rachel, I could have written your question. I'm exactly the same but only 34 weeks. Please will you keep us informed how you are getting on xxx

Rachael200694 · 25/08/2013 19:49

Nothing seems to be happening really! Hmm
I've noticed if I lay on my left side I seem to get a lot of pains then I roll over onto my right side and they stop! Very strange. Sound familiar to anyone? Smile

catinabox · 25/08/2013 22:42

Hi Rachael yes exactly the same! l am having strong period type pains. I've had them for a bout 5 days now. Mornings and evenings seem to be worse. My belly also feels quite hard at times and I'm getting regular BH. They seem to go if I move or roll over!

Last night i was also getting shooting type pai regularly. That went away too!

How are you doing now? (I'm 39 weeks BTW) :)

Rachael200694 · 25/08/2013 22:50

How long would you say they last for when you get them? Some have said they get them for hours but mine seem to go quite quickly! And how painful would you say they are, mine are bare able really!
I'm not too bad, I'm 38+5 so very close to you Smile
Get a little excited whenever I get pains but then they go! Although they do seem to be very very slowly getting more frequent but nothing to get me too giddy yet! x

OP posts:
catinabox · 25/08/2013 22:55

Me too. The period type cramps are pretty much constant until i get up and move around. Bearable. The shooting pains i had last night got stronger then died off, they lasted about 5 seconds? Not long. Was having them every 5 minutes or so. Take my breath a little bit! I really thought that was the beginning!

Come on pain get worse! (I don't think i have ever said that in my life before!)

How are you doing now? Have you got a ball ?

Rachael200694 · 25/08/2013 23:01

Ooh I'm glad someone's the same! Sounds similar to the pains I get, I get pain envy haha! Cause I read on here people have had it for hours, and I'm actually jealous!!
Pregnancy makes you strange doesn't it? Grin
I'm having a little bounce on my ball right now Smile seems to set pains off sometimes! Do you use one? Smile X

OP posts:
catinabox · 25/08/2013 23:10

Yes, it's downstairs. I might go and have a bounce too....

Oooo I'm excited now. Pains how exciting! (yep...definitely makes you weird!)

Have you felt like your pelvic bone is being wrenched at all?

Rachael200694 · 25/08/2013 23:19

I like it when I've been bouncing and I stand up and can't walk properly for a while haha! I've definitely woke the bambino up, can see some sort of limb sticking out while I'm bouncing!

And nope I haven't had that sort of feeling in my pelvis! More shooting pains than anything, that's the head moving into the pelvis the midwife said so its a good pain! Smile

If there's no appearance from baby I'm having a sweep on the 5th to hopefully get things moving. Have you been booked for one? x

OP posts:
catinabox · 25/08/2013 23:31

They've offered me one on the 30th but I'm hoping that he'll be here by then.

It sounds like we are having similar pre-labour symptoms. No one really tells you this stuff do they!?. I've spend about a week thinking every little pain means i'm going to go in to labour any minute. Husband is texting from work every few hours.

I love it when I can feel little feet. There is no room left for them to move much though so really this baba needs to be out soon... :)

I'll update you tomorrow if you like?

How are the pains now? I've got period like cramps and a few twinges..:)

Rachael200694 · 25/08/2013 23:41

Ooh not long for you now then!! In hoping the pains were getting will mean a sweep would just nudge things along nicely if we get to that point! Smile

Aww bless! It's so exciting but frustrating isn't it!
I keep panicking my partner cause I'll go "ooo!" In pain and he's like "is the baby coming?!" Grin

And yeah definitely keep me updated it'd be lovely to hear how things are going Smile

My pains aren't up to much but I'm still on the ball. I can feel a mild ache and my tummys lovely and tight! I tend to start with pains when I get off the ball so I'm trying to stay on as long as I can haha Smile

Hope things get moving for you soon!! It's so exciting towards the end isn't it Grin x

I've just spent all afternoon frantically baking so i'm hoping that's a good sign :)

People keep asking whether the baby has arrived yet. I feel like if i don't reply to a call or a message straight away they think i'm in labour!

Hopefully won't be long now...

Yes, i'm swinging between being really excited and really fed up!

How are you today? Any progress?!

Rachael200694 · 26/08/2013 17:03

Ooh I was thinking of doing a bit of baking this evening too! Grin

And I definitely get you about people thinking you've gone into labour!! I don't reply for 10 minutes and people are like "i thought you were having the baby!!" Smile drama queens Wink

I've had bugger all happen today really, nothing much at all Hmm little disappointed!!
What about you? Are you still having your pains or anything? Smile

OP posts:
Rachael200694 · 26/08/2013 17:09

Just started with a bit of an upset stomach and pressure, but knowing my luck it will go away in no time haha! Smile

OP posts:
catinabox · 26/08/2013 17:17

Just sitting her now and some pains are starting up. I'm wondering whether referring to them as 'pains' is a really good idea ha ha. I think the real pain will be massive in comparison!

I keep thinking about jobs i could get done while i'm waiting.

Are you getting bored?

Rachael200694 · 26/08/2013 17:20

Haha I definitely agree! These "pains" will be nothing compared to the big day, doesn't stop me being impatient though! Smile

And I'm very bored indeed! Don't have any drive to do much either, was going to attempt going on a walk to try set things off but I feel too lazy!

What about you, how are you doing? Bored aswell? Smile

OP posts:
catinabox · 26/08/2013 17:46

Yeah very! i haven't got any motivation at the moment. I got a burst of energy earlier which i used for baking. I thought i would try and go out today but i really can't be bothered. Usually i'm on the go all the time so the lazy thing might be a good sign..

I guess it's good to rest.....

Come on babies!! Smile

Rachael200694 · 27/08/2013 21:28

Any changes? Smile

Sorry for taking so long to reply!
Had some twinges today but still nothing, boo!

OP posts:
catinabox · 28/08/2013 08:41

Nope.. ! Last night's indian didn't work!

Due date is today and i'm going to try some of the visualisations of cervix opening etc. My baby has been really wriggly this morning and i'm talking to him lots, encouraging him to pack his bags and leave!

It's really strange how stop/start it all feels. I have had some BH this morning but as soon as i am up and about it seems to stop. The shooting pins have stopped too..

I hope you're doing o.k and finding ways to keep busy..

Rachael200694 · 28/08/2013 14:14

He has received his eviction notice then has he? :) my little one will be receiving his shortly! Do you have a name for your bambino! Smile

I've been having a bit of a baking frenzy and have baked a lemon cake and the worlds largest Swiss roll! It's absolutely huge haha, it's my first one so I didn't realise it'd be so big!

What've you been baking recently? It's ideal for heavily pregnant women isn't it, keeps you occupied and you have yummy treats at the end! Smile

Hope all is well and that your little boy isn't going to keep you waiting! Smile
