Horrendously overdue - tell me your happy stories please

I know a lot of first timers go overdue but I'm now 40+10 and feeling thoroughly fed up. Desperate to have a natural, spontaneous birth but feeling like induction is the only likely outcome at the moment. Also finding it very hard to believe that I'm ever going to actually have a baby!

Would love to hear some nice, positive, encouraging stories of people going overdue to lift my spirits (and hopefully get some oxytocin swirling around my body!)

Both of mine were born 12 hours before the appointment to induce them. DD at +13 and DS at +10. But I hear inductions can be ok too, if you're nearly ready anyway.

I went into labour at 41+6 - the day before my induction.

That's the end of the happiness, aside from getting my gorgeous DS at the end of it ;)

Dd2 finally showed up at 40+13, 5 hours before planned induction.

DD was actually born 3 hours AFTER my induction appointment at 40 + 13. I'd been admitted, in labour, 28 hours before. I do remember that I kept going on about having to cancel my induction appointment and reminding the midwives repeatedly that I didn't need it anymore - God knows what I thought they'd do to me for a missed appointment (not like they were going to put me back on a waiting list!!)

I REALLY hadn't wanted an induction and when I booked it, at the registrar's insistence, in floods of tears, the very kind midwife took one look at me and ordered me to go home and have sex, with the immortal phrase "I know which prick I'd prefer". DH was there and very .

So is it the sex that did it kopparbergkate? Have done the deed this morning in a last ditch attempt to get things started (oh I'm so romantic). Have done it a few time in the last few weeks but hasn't worked. Although this time it's after 2 sweeps and at 40+10 so maybe it's more likely to do something...

You don?t have to be induced, you can say no. They wanted to induce me at 40+11, I said no and went into labour naturally at 40+12.

I was 11 days overdue, and they refused to induce me because DD was large (10lb 7 in the end!). I had just been to the consultant and had a C-section booked in for 4 days time when I went into labour. I always say that DD obviously realised she would be coming out one way or the other and decided to get on with it!

At my unit we changed our induction offer from T+10 to T+12 because, apparently, half of the first group will start labouring by themselves in the next 48 hrs with no additional risk.
Not all clients accept induction and we offer expectant management after T+12 ie daily check with CTG until labour or IOL.

DS born at 40+13, 12 hours before planned induction. 48 hours annoying but not painful prelabour, quick rest (5hours no contractions) followed by 5.5 hour labour and straightforward delivery.
I too thought it would never happen!!

My waters broke in the early hours of the morning at 40+12. I was booked in for induction later that day.

Another one here dd was born at 40+10 the day before the induction appointment. Sex followed by a long walk works best IME

I am thick, born at 40+14!

DS born 11 days late, I went into labour a couple of hours after sex, the day before planned induction.

Could have been the sex, could have been the 20million pineapples I ate, could have been the reflexology...I reckon it was the sex though :)

Both my DS's were born after induction at 40+12. But it was fine. Both quick births with no complications. I was just happy to finally go into labour even though it wasn't spontaneous. Good Luck OP however it happens

Was 40 + 12 and due to be induced the next day, so went for a long walk, about an hour, within 12 hours I was in labour, glad I avoided the induction.

My DS remains the same now, a lazy sod, last to do anything

Quick easy labour, G&A only, laboured and gave birth in water.

Hi I was 40+11 I was induced at 9pm and went into labour at 2am and gave birth at 9am.
Getting induced really isn't that bad! But remember you can refuse. Good luck x

What's all this re registrars "insisting" on induction. I'm 38+4 so not overdue yet.

But it's posts like this that really worry me. My understanding was that the doctors/midwives give advice. But ultimately DH and I decide how we want to proceed. I feel extremely uncomfortable at the thought of a doctor essentially removing that choice and carrying out a procedure that I do not want.

Presume this is a one off rather than the norm for the rest of you who have been induced?

Well, I was induced but both labours were only 6 hours long and no medical intervention or pain relief (except gas and air) needed. Ds's labour was a piece of piss - not that bad at all, dd (dc2) was back to back so more painful but manageable. They were both 13 days late although I think dd was 3 weeks late and in sure my dates are right. Ds was 8lb11oz and dd was 9lb4oz

blackgrape in my experience of being induced I was just booked in as I was overdue. There was no mention of alternative options and so in that way it was sort of the registrars 'decision'. At that point (DC1) I knew next to nothing about birth choices myself other than what we'd covered in antenatal classes so didn't really query what I was told.

Now I'm much more informed (DC3) and feel like I have the confidence to ask about alternative courses of action so that it is me and DH making decisions and not being 'told' what's going to be happening.

From your post you seem like you would be prepared to ask someone to explain themselves to you so you could decide. In my case I did consent to the IOL I just don't feel it was particularly informed but I didn't feel.it was in any way forced on me.against my will.

DS was born at 40+14. I was desperate for a water birth so I refused earlier inductions.

The mw was concerned about how overdue I was and called the consultant... Who vetoed a water birth. With hindsight I should have just had the induction when I was offered it.

Hi op I'm currently 38+6 so not overdue but have been told they want to induce me at 40weeks if I have not gone in to spontaneous labour. So although I'm not overdue I feel like I'm on a week countdown to avoid it IYSWIM.
I'm hoping to refuse induction at 40 weeks but will accept expectant management.
If I hadn't researched induction and done a lot of reading on here I would not have known that I can refuse it, which annoys me as I could just go along with whatever the consultant says without medical evidence that it is required.

pigs (if I may call you that! ) - thanks for explaining. I'm particularly sensitive re this as my sister had a failed augmentation that ended up in a very scary situation due to medics' mistake.

So I've done a complete 360 degree turn from trusting what is said at face value to realising we need to be really on the ball and can't be passive. It's quite bizarre, as I'm naturally a bit of a people easier and tend to go with the flow. But the thought of docs just insisting in doing things makes me really cross. So knowing your circs snd how to avoid makes me feel a lot better. Glad it was a one off.
