Third births....

Question for anyone who's had 3+ births - how did the 3rd compare to no.s 1+2? Various people have said to me that in 3rd births the baby messes around a bit, then when it comes, it really comes fast - would this fit in with your experience?

I'm having #3 in 3 or 4 weeks, 1st labour was induced, but straightforward, 2nd labour was at home, 3.5 hours from first twinge to baby, so although I realise all births are different, would like to know whether I can expect a half hour sprint, or a slow start, or what!!!

TIA!

lol tortoiseshell was just about to post this exact thread Grin

first birth was 10 hours, very quick dilation but unfortunatly dd1 undiagnosed transverse op so pushed for 3.5 hours with no luck then she was forcepped out

second was 1 hour and 50 mins from waking up with pains to birth

am really hoping for quick third birth but intreseted to read others experiences...

1st baby took forever - 49 hours from start to finish. Normal story - text book up until the contractions stopped and then I had 'jungle juice' and an epidural - lovely! He was 6 days late.

2nd baby - 9 hours from start to finish - epidural straight away though this time. Again lovely. He was 4 days early.

3rd baby - in hospital 5 weeks early - contractions very regular for 9 hours - then stopped. Eventually she was born 10 days late, start to finish just under 4 hours - not even enough time for my beloved epidural. Funniest moment was when my waters broke at exactly the same time the baby's head appeared and covered both midwives and DH. VERY funny! Nasty midwife then slipped up. I'm sorry but I did have to laugh - I'll blame it on the useless gas and air.

They all seem to be really different so far - no pattern emerging as far as I can see - guess it's a 'wait and see'.

Enid - you'd better not have yours before me - you're due after me aren't you? I will be VERY annoyed if you pop first! I'm feeling on countdown - less than 3 weeks to go!

mine is due 30 april and will most probably be a week late so I expect you will be first!

GDG · 03/04/2006 17:41

ds1 - induced, about 7 hours, had epidural and ventouse

ds2 - probably 5 hours from start to finish but didn't realise I was in labour till I got to hospital and was 8cm - he was born 30 mins later!

ds3 - 3 hours start to finish - knew what I was doing this time so 'perfect' labour on the ball and then delivery kneeling - no messing, it was an 'easy' birth.

HTH!

Enid, a few midwives said to me that 2nd births are often quicker but it's not necessarily so with 3rd ones and they can be just as long or tricky as the 1st. Not in my case though - it was a lovely birth Smile

My third birth was the easiset by far. i knew (as much as you can!) what to expect and because I knew it would be the last one ever i just really enjoyed it. Wasn't much shorter than the others but I think my frame of mind really helped. Enjoy!!!

JoolsToo · 03/04/2006 17:47

dd long
ds1 shortish
ds2 longer than ds1 but shorter than dd Smile

Distel · 03/04/2006 18:02

my 3rd was about 2.5 hours from start to finish. I phoned dh as contractions were starting and he was out at 7.30 in the evevning. Got to hospital at 10.00 (after having an argument with the midwife on the phone because she asked if I could stay ay home longer as they were busy Shock) and ds2 was born at 10.08.

I have often joked that I had the perfect labour and if I could bottle it and sell it I would make a fortune!!!!!!!!!!!

Enid, I'm due 23rd April, but will probably be between 1 and 2 weeks late...so who knows!!!

1st labour induced. 9 hours. Difficult labour, baby back to back epidural emergency episiotomy and ventouse.

2nd labour - 9 hours but very straight forward just gas and air - my best labour

3rd labour - 1 1/2 hours very straight forward just gas and air but very quick and VERY painful.

Auntymandy · 03/04/2006 19:19

my 3rd wasnt the best, but not awful!
Ds was 16days late!!! no waters,a nd he was a bit flat at birht, but the labour wasnt too bad. Went on to have 2 more!!!And wouldnt say no to another!
