Third births....

Question for anyone who's had 3+ births - how did the 3rd compare to no.s 1+2? Various people have said to me that in 3rd births the baby messes around a bit, then when it comes, it really comes fast - would this fit in with your experience?

I'm having #3 in 3 or 4 weeks, 1st labour was induced, but straightforward, 2nd labour was at home, 3.5 hours from first twinge to baby, so although I realise all births are different, would like to know whether I can expect a half hour sprint, or a slow start, or what!!!

I had very intermittent contracting over 2-3 days. Pretty minor with the odd whopper. Then whoooooooshhhh ... out he came in three hours. He was my nicest, easiest birth. I could have been back in the rice fields that day. Well, almost.

I was induced with my third. Was quite quick to get going (for an induction) but sped up a lot. I went from 5cm to 10 in about 6 contractions. God did they hurt!

My first labour was about 8 hours long, my second a fast and furious 2 hours and my third was about 5 hours and was by far the easiest and best.

Mine took all day to warm up, but he was OP, so I suspect he was taking his time to get into position! Kicked off properly just as DH walked in the door from work around 5pm and he was born at 10.

We went to hospital and I always feel that sets me back a bit. I suspect he would be sooner if we'd been at home.

All 3 of mine were induced. It took longer the 3rd time for the induction to start working but after that things happened fairly quickly. The pushing stage was over in a matter of minutes and I was up and about as soon as I was allowed.

All of mine were happy where they were and had to be induced. My first took 12 hours, the second only 1 hour and the third took 8 hours so no pattern there. Weights of course went progressively up 7lb2 7lb5 8lb

#31st, 23 hours from first twinge to the end, 2nd 18 hours, 3rd 9.5 hours with no "messing about".

No, not in mycase. DS2 was all over the place then he took 44 hours of relatively pain free labour. DS3 was 4 hours of quick stuff. Much more painful though.

!st was induced, 14 hrs, episiotomy.
2nd was 6 hrs from start to finish, gas and air, fine.
3rd was9 hrs 1st twinge to delivery, in water, gas and air, easy, but the most painful.

Third birth - very fast. No messing about at all.

1st was about 15 hrs
2nd was about 7 hrs
3rd was , well waters went at 1am no action until about 7pm when contractions REALLY started, went to hospital at 8pm and was born at 9.33pm!!

1st 3 hours serious labour. Relatively easy.
2nd 2hr labour to full dilation then c section
3rd 2hours, ventouse cord round neck. I was just glad to avoid cs, so less "messing around "than no 2 here.

First two were relatively straightforward. Third one was a real stop/start affair, kept going into labour then kept stopping, every night for about a week!!! Then when I did go into labour proper it was just over 4 hours from start to finish (second stage just 10 minutes).

If I'd been having a homebirth the stop/start thing wouldn't have been a problem, but I had a fair trek to hospital so it became a bit of a marathon sprint each time, only to have to go home again!

slow start not as slow as No 1, and then out like a rocket. was asleep and then 15 mins later - hello baby!

I'm curious about this too. I'm pg with my 3rd.
Ds1- natural 18hrs start to finish, gas & air.
Ds2- induced 6 weeks early, gas & air.

rel long abours with babies 1 and 2

3rd baby had toh ave waters broken at 6.30 had her at 7.15, so 45 mins. I shook and shook, all the while the only saving grace was me telling myself this is the LAST time im ever going through this pain.

mind you might have just one more

Tortoiseshell. My first two labours were almost exactly like yours: induction for ds1, then very quick (3hrs) for ds2.
ds3 was the best of the lot: about 4/5hrs of nothing-much twinges, then 3 hours of proper labour - all nicely progressive so manageable with just Tens. Lovely calm birth: best of the lot!
Let's hope you get the same!

my third took about 5 hours from start to finish,it was the longest labour of all of my four.she was in an awkward position, so i think that was what slowed it down a bit compared to the others. the problem was, i barely recognised it as labour, when i did get to hospital, id left it a little late and the midwife barely had time to get her gloves on!. a few pushes and she was out, not a wonderful experience without pain relief. in hindsight, i wish i'd got there sooner, i think third babies can make a quick appearance when they feel like it! when i had my fourth, i went in at the first twinge , and thats my advice to you aswell, even if the midwives try to stall you! good luck.
