Full moon; truth or not?

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 08:37

Ok 39 weeks today so I am starting to get antsy.

There is a full moon on Thursday 2nd August. Is there any truth in the old wife's tale that it can send women into labour?

I've spoked to lots of midwives who swear it's true!

But you could help things along yourself. :)

richmondmum84 · 31/07/2012 18:27

I am 39 today too! I haven't heard that before but I know in ancient times they would call crazy people lunatic ( Luna means moon in Latin ) because they believed there were 3 liquids in the human body; red, blue etc. One represents blood the other represents hormones.. it makes sense because when it's full moon on earth everything changes, like tides and also human body! It's all about physics and it's real science! May be hormones work more efficiently and maybe faster because of the attraction of full moon! More hormones on the head... We will see Smile I can't really wait anymore! Smile

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 31/07/2012 18:35

A pregnancy lasts for 10 lunar cycles. I'm sure that the moon can possibly have an affect and I'm sure more waters break around the time of a full moon, it pulls tides after all! I wish I could find some research on the subject!

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 18:35

Bloocow: I have curry in the fridge, been bouncing on my ball, drinking loads of raspberry tea, got a big pack of dates... but not expecting these to actually work. Any fail safe ideas? Grin

Richmond: snap! It's getting closer... Lots of tightenings, period pains and feeling like everything is just about to drop out my lady bits everytime I stand up. fingers crossed for the full moon. Wink

The lunar cycle definitely has an effect. Midwives and policemen/women I know tell me the same. I know because my cycle has always fallen in line with it too. Weird and cool :)
Good luck!

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 18:38

Bad day: I tried researching using google, but doesn't appear empirically tested. My due date on dates was actually the 3rd (adjusted to 7th on 1st scan) so I am convinced for myself.

Yeah squishy, Thursday it is!

My waters broke during a full moon, without warning at 34 weeks and without going into labour. So I'd say yes.

GnocchiNineDoors · 31/07/2012 18:39

Dance! 20mins of shaking my hips to Dolly P and 'Big girls you are beautiful' got me to start cxns

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 31/07/2012 18:57

When I was 37 wks with DS me was looking in her diary to make my next appt and remarked that there was a full moon that weekend. DS came on the full moon! Same mw saw me on the ward the next day and said "I didn't really mean it, but it is often true".

mummybookworm · 31/07/2012 19:02

I have just googled the lunar cycle for dd's birthday and she was born on a full moon! I had no idea. Contractions started 2 nights earlier.

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 19:17

Looking good then... so I need to get dancing. No problem there. 2 nights before is tonight so must get dstobe in the loop!

Will definitely update to let you know.

Westcountrylovescheese · 02/08/2012 11:47

MrGeresHamster · 03/08/2012 21:42

Full moon was a disappointment... Baby still comfortable where it is and I have no intention of waiting for the next full moon

How did it go for you Richmond?

richmondmum84 · 03/08/2012 22:41

Still no sign of labour!!!! Someone asked me if I was carrying twins today Smile I am flattered! Sad he is gonna be too big to push

MrGeresHamster · 03/08/2012 22:45

Ah, well we have 4 days to due date... It's the waiting that gets you down isn't it.

Thank you! I found it!! Almost 1000 messages! WowSmile

MangoHedgehog · 04/08/2012 09:24

i was due on 3 July which was a full moon

i had dd on 2 July

the day after, the ward was incredibly busy! the midwives were flat out (in fact so flat out they forgot to order my blood transfusion Sad)

so there might be advantages in not giving birth on a full moon, so you can be assured of a decent level of medical attention

MrGeresHamster · 04/08/2012 09:27

That's a good point Mango... and a straw for me to clutch as I continue to wait Grin

39+4 and getting very antsy!
