<trivial thread> lady gardens

Now I know midwives have seen all permutations of pubic embellishment from bushy to bald so I'm not worrying about what they will think. Am just asking out of curiosity.
I have stopped attempting to remove anything down there because I can't see it and don't feel it is safe to wield sharp implements at my nether regions effectively blind (am 38+6w). Just wondering how you approached/are planning to approach childbirth in regard to growing a lady jungle. (i.e. will I be normal turning up with a huge bush?).
This wouldn't even have been a question about 5 or 10 years ago as I can't remember any talk of removing pubes back then. It just seems to be the fashion now!

Mine will be removed, as it is regularly by DH lol. I stopped epilating it all off a while ago when it got difficult but he does a good job with a razor and I find it more comfortable so I suspect its whatever you are happy with!

Cheekychops84 · 22/06/2012 10:56

i get my DP to do mine as i get fed up with it lol but i need to try and time it slightly as dont really wanna turn up bald either loooool

GnocchiNineDoors · 22/06/2012 10:57

I cant even remember what I did, or if

GnocchiNineDoors · 22/06/2012 10:58

I even thought about it once the cxns started. Though I gave it lots of thought in the run up

dd is 6mo

Babylon1 · 22/06/2012 10:59

I also couldn't see it so went au naturale!!!

I dint think anyone was bothered by my bush!!!

PinkPepper · 22/06/2012 11:00

I used the spray on sensitive veet. I know people have problems with it but I never had. Got everything off at 37 weeks now hopefully it'll stay short and neat. I more just don't want to be annoyed by it afterwards with all the bleeding and pads

MirandaWest · 22/06/2012 11:06

I am normally one to say really it doesn't matter but with DS I left it and then had a PPH and when I was able to deal with the veritable forest down there it was matted a lot and I just had to cut chunks out. So with DD I did a little work and this was much better.

thing1andthing2 · 22/06/2012 19:57

I might try the veet thing, as I've got some of the wash off stuff in the cupboard. I'm sure I could apply it with the aid of a mirror. You make a good point about the bleeding etc I hadn't thought of that!

I tried to tidy it up a bit but it was hardly a success as I couldn't really reach it! It didn't bother me in terms of the mw's seeing it. I did, however, wish that I had done more tidying when I had an emcs and they shaved half of it off with a crap razor!!!

Badgerina · 23/06/2012 08:03

I've been visiting my local salon for a trim and a wax - is this an especially novel idea?

GimmieChocolate · 23/06/2012 08:15

I had planned a wax as before I was pregnant I had one every month without fail. I'd stopped at around 4 months as my skinhad become so sensitive it was red, swollen and scabby for a week after waxing. Anyway my DD arrived early at 38+6 and lady garden was untamed and I couldn't of cared less when I was actually giving birth! Honestly it is the last thing you think of at the time! Though afterward I did say "I never got chance for my bikini wax!"

bonzo77 · 23/06/2012 08:15

I had a Brazilian about 2 weeks before my due date. Would have gone again if I'd gone over due.

Pastabee · 23/06/2012 09:13

High bikini wax for me.... Find somewhere that does hot wax if you can as it will hurt less which is important given it hurts more when pregnant. I also had a lovely pedicure partly to give me something pretty to look at and partly because it's a nice thing to do on maternity leave.

There will be someone along in a moment to say 'why do you care, no dignity in childbirth anyway etc etc' but anything that makes you feel happier is a good idea IMO even if you don't care on the day itself. It is easier to keep clean with minimal hair and my beautician took enough off so I wouldn't have to be shaved with a dry bic if I needed an EMCS.

My beautician commented she has at least one heavily pregnant woman a week with the same request.

MrDarcysbreeches · 23/06/2012 09:19

Luckily I managed to veet mine in the morning and that night i went into labour - but as i ciouldn't see what i was doing, I've no idea if i made a good job or not Grin

FaneFeyre · 23/06/2012 09:28

I really wanted to get a salon wax done but was too embarrassed, didn't want the beauty therapist to have to suffer my hugely pregnant self. So silly- if I ever go again I will just get it done.
Ended up standing in the shower at midnight doing a hasty razor job as my waters were gushing out into the bath!

sabbby82 · 23/06/2012 09:32

I had a Brazilian a couple weeks before, made me more comfortable knowing it was tidy!

AKissIsNotAContract · 23/06/2012 09:37

GingerDoodle: I'm impressed that you can epilate your pubes, I can't take the pain and have to wax instead.

Op: go to a salon and get a hot wax.

thing1andthing2 · 23/06/2012 12:04

Those of you suggesting a wax are all mad. I had one once before my wedding. Never again [ouch]. And besides, having a toddler to look after does not fit in well with salon appointments - "just sit still for 10 minutes darling while this lady attacks mummy with wax" - yes that'd work well Grin. Even getting my hair highlighted is a logistical problem and will be going out the window completely when the new baby comes, I'm going to try dying it at home.
I've attacked it with Veet just for practicality (so the whole matting thing mentioned by mirandawest doesn't happen) and I can't see the result but it feels OK! Poor old Dh is not allowed near the area as last pregnancy I asked him just to tidy it up and he took the whole lot off baldy style. The regrowth was so itchy I had trouble forgiving him.

I don't think I thought about it for my VB in 2009. With all that went on during the labour, the state of my muff was the last thing on everyones mind!

I had an ELCS (at 39+3) this April and methodically shaved into quite the porn star landing strip the night before! Grin I needed it to be as neat as possible; lots of reasons why. The main one I think was because I was saying 'goodbye' to my body as I knew it: preparing it for the new scar and losing my big pg tummy.

I'm was not/am not morose about it. That was just something I needed to do!

I might add that I no longer have a landing strip and have grown my pubes over the scar (which is v. neat, btw) This is the most pubage I've had since about 2003!!! x

i always keep mine trimmed and short and when pregnant dp just does it for me (he does it when i am not pregnant as well actually!) i prefer it like that and i think it was easier after the birth with bleeding etc that the hair was short, just easier to dry and keep clean etc, but i really dont think drs/midwives etc give a dam, they have seen it all and more!

so do whatever you feel comfortable with :)

AKissIsNotAContract · 23/06/2012 13:43

Thing: if you only get waxed occasionally it can be uncomfortable. I get mine done every 4-6 weeks so don't really feel it.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 23/06/2012 13:45

I got waxed the day before my due date

alwaysanauntie · 24/06/2012 09:08

I asked my DH but he refused :o but managed to do it myself the morning I went into labour with a lady garden trimmer & hand held mirror. Wasn't very dignified but I felt pleased I had when I was getting my stitches done! I went for shorter but natural shape as I can't bear itchy regrowth, oh the joys!

RachelWalsh · 24/06/2012 14:03

I veeted the whole lot off whilst having contractions! This was about 9am, had phoned the labour ward and been fobbed off, rang them back after, went in at about 10 and had baby at 1! Meant to leave a bit but was so distracted by the pain it all came off apart from a couple of daft patches I missed. Don't know what I was thinking bothering tbh! Labour madness!
