Hello, I'm currently 40+1.. went to 40+17 with my ds and desperately don't want to go through that again.. I put off induction & then eventually gave in.

The main problem this time is that my scan date puts me at 40+8 today so they're talking induction next week (I KNOW I'm right about being due this wk cos of when I ov'd & when dh & I dtd) Anyway, just feeling a bit down & don't have faith that my body can do it by itself so please tell me positive stories!

I did! Dd I was induced after 14 days. Ds came 8 days late on his own. So quick I didn't have time for pain relief!

Good luck

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 17/05/2012 12:47

induced at 42 weeks with ds1

expected DS2 to go overdue too but he came at 38 weeks plus 6 (and was over 8 and a half lbs when born) - had week before that off work on mat leave and was kept busy walking lots and hoicking his big brother up and down stairs on the tube etc - and did 2 mega walks (around 5 miles) the weekend before he was born - so think all that activity must have helped evict him.

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 17/05/2012 12:48

Oh and DS2's birth was 4 hours from waters bursting (no contractions then) to being in my arms in the pool

babsmam · 17/05/2012 13:05

term plus 13 with DD and induced

term plus 7 with DS and spontaneous

cupcakefairy · 17/05/2012 19:26

Thanks so much for the responses ladies, I'm very glad to know it is possible!

Induced at 42 weeks with dc1, nightmare birth, try not to dwell on it. 9lb baby.
Dc2 came two days early, 3 hour labour, no drugs only gas and air. Home 8 hours later. 8lb baby. I amazed myself and my dh.
It can happen. I pleaded with the hosp to induce me the day after due date if dc2 hadn't arrived, as I did not want a repeat of the first time.

I was much fitter the second time which I know made a huge difference. Plus I sort of knew what to expect.
Best of luck.

RationalBrain · 17/05/2012 19:49

I did! Induced at 42weeks, next time labour at 40+4.

I had acupuncture leading up to dd the second time, might have helped. But it's just luck of the draw I think. Good luck.

artifarti · 17/05/2012 20:17

Me too!

DS1 induced at 40+14, arrived two days later by EMCS.

DS2 turned up at 40+11, avoiding an ELCS by a matter of hours!

Good luck.

Flisspaps · 17/05/2012 20:33

Induced at 40+15 with DD

Spontaneous labour at 40+11 (40+1 by my dates) with DS Grin

evergreentrees · 17/05/2012 20:36

induced with dc1, dc2 arrived on the day i was due to be induced. it was quick and only needed gas-i have a very low pain threshold.

AnathemaDevice · 17/05/2012 21:01

DS was born at 42 weeks exactly, narrowly avoiding induction. I was so convinced that DC2 would be late that when DD arrived at 40+3 her cot was still in the box under our bed.

parachutesarefab · 17/05/2012 21:05

Induced with DD1. Not needed with DD2 and DD3.

kaymondo · 17/05/2012 21:07

I'm really interested to hear people's experiences with this as I was induced at 40 + 14 with ds and ended up with section because even with all of the intervention (pessary, arm and drip) I didn't get past 2cm! My body just clearly wasn't ready. Hoping for a vbac this time but not very confident that things will start by themselves given my experience last time (might have to have elcs anyway due to low lying placenta but hoping it will move!) sorry to hijack thread but has anyone managed an earlier birth after a failed induction like mine?

Bluebell99 · 17/05/2012 21:12

Me too, induced with ds, 14 days overdue and ended up with emergency cs, but dd arrived two weeks early, normal delivery VBAC :)

bonnieslilsister · 17/05/2012 21:12

My first was ec at 40+15
My second was a vb still birth and
My third was vb at 36 weeks

cupcakefairy · 17/05/2012 21:16

No need to apologise kaymondo I'd be interested to hear too.

Thanks so much for responses.. fliss I'm particularly pleased to see you were only 40+1 by your dates.. hospital dates have me at 40+8 today so there's hope for this weekend! Am currently bouncing on my gym ball..

Ds 40+8 induced
Dd week early
Dd2 40+13 induced

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 17/05/2012 21:19

I was induced at 40 +15 with DD BUT I have a 35 day cycle which means I ovulated later than the doctors estimate and therefore conceived later and wasn't as overdue as everyone thought

I argued on this point with the consultant and was allowed to go longer with my other pregnancies which were all by their dates 2 weeks over (DS1 13 days late, DD2 14 days late) I didn't need to be induced again.

sockmonkey · 17/05/2012 21:20

Was induced with DS1 at 40+13
DS2 went into labour 40+11
DD went into labour 40+10

Think DS1 was just very happy where he was

workshy · 17/05/2012 21:26

1st was an induction, eventually born at 40+14

2nd spontaneous labour at 40+5 and it was quick!!!

Hooray, more positive stories!

youvecat I too have a 34/35 day cycle (so stupid they date pregnancies without asking cycle length) am meeting consultant to discuss induction Monday and will be bringing my cycle charts to prove my dates are right! (but actually hoping I'll have the baby before Monday anyway!)

I was induced at 42 + 5 with ds1 and went into labour spontaneously with ds2 on his edd Grin

artifarti · 17/05/2012 22:49

kaymondo and cupcakefairy - I posted earlier up the thread. DS1 was a failed induction, hence why it ended in EMCS (although I did get to 9cm, just could not get to 10cm after two days of trying). With DS2 (VBAC), I took note of the first contraction at 11.15pm and he was born four hours later at 3.15am - so quite different to the failed induction!

Flisspaps · 17/05/2012 23:15

Also remember - you don't HAVE to be induced. You can request expectant management instead.
