Sorry I'm a frequent poster! Just few things I wish to know and find this site great!

Basically whatever the title says, when did you start using baby wipes on your babies bum?

DD I lasted til about two weeks with cotton wool and water. With DS it was wipes from the get go. The Huggies Pure wipes were fine on him and much easier to clean the meconium.

CailinDana · 04/05/2012 14:07

Day 1. Water and cotton wool just doesn't cut it.

bamboobutton · 04/05/2012 14:08

right from the first ever poo.

aren't you supposed to use wet wipes on newborns now??Confused

lovelychops · 04/05/2012 14:09

we waited a few months, cotton wool is a bit of a faff but seemed kinder to DD's skin.

CailinDana · 04/05/2012 14:10

It's recommended that you use water and cotton wool at first. I really don't know why.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 04/05/2012 14:10

Straight away I didn't realise you weren't suppose to.

SingingSands · 04/05/2012 14:11

Right from birth.

I used Simple ones or Huggies Pure

RedBlanket · 04/05/2012 14:12

A week or so. My mum changed a nappy, couldn't believe I was gagging about with water and cotton wool and went straight out and bought me a jumbo pack. Never looked.

hermionestranger · 04/05/2012 14:12

Straight away, I took a bag if cotton will into hospital so it looked like I was using that and water! GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

RedBlanket · 04/05/2012 14:13

Gagging = faffing (although some of them early black poo nappies are a bit vom)

MrsMcEnroe · 04/05/2012 14:13

Not for months with my PFB; straight after birth with DC2! Couldn't live without them, and we still take them camping etc - DCs are 8 and 5!

Flisspaps · 04/05/2012 14:13

Straight away with both, couldn't be arsed fannying about with cotton wool and bowls of water.

PotteringAlong · 04/05/2012 14:13

Immediately.

I lied to the midwife

wishiwasonholiday · 04/05/2012 14:13

When I came out if hospital.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/05/2012 14:14

I started using reusables after a couple of weeks. Lots of disposable baby wipes have pretty nasty stuff in them, there have been many threads recommending them for cleaning of various non-poo related substances.

Just a side note: babywipes etc are not flushable despite what it may say on the packet...

doormat · 04/05/2012 14:15

they didnt exist when i had my first 2dd....think bout 18 yrs ago i started using them..from the very first nappy x

MonaLotte · 04/05/2012 14:15

About two weeks for both dcs. I found that large round pads were better than balls as they didn't separate.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/05/2012 14:16

When i was a naive first time mum to DS I went into hospital armed with cotton wool. I was ever so grateful for the free sample of pampers wipes that came with the bounty pack after struggling with his first poo!

PetiteRaleuse · 04/05/2012 14:16

Straightaway. In fact the hospitals over here provide nappies and wipes until you leave. Used sensitive skin ones for mine though as history of allergies and sensitive skin with both parents.

confuzed90 · 04/05/2012 14:16

Lol singinghands your post made me chuckle!
That's ok then, he's 6 days old and started at about day 2-3! Cotton wool was driving me mad! Just making sure that others sneakily used them to :)
I wouldn't use them on his face or anywhere else for now, just his bum. Just scared about making it sore. Can we use bepanthem on them yet? Acts as a barrier, his skin does look slightly sore (well his bits are a bit red)

With my first I used cotton wool and water for a few days. I very quickly realised how bloody ridiculous it was to try and clean baby tar poo with water and a blob of disintegrating wool!

So with baby 2 & 3 and soon number 4 baby wipes all the way! Of course I used unperfumed at first.

AntsMarching · 04/05/2012 14:21

We used cotton wool and water until dd1 was nearly 9 months old. Only used wipes when out somewhere. Her skin is so sensitive, it was the only way to avoid very bad nappy rash. She's nearly 2 yo now and I still have to be careful with wipes.

Hoping soon to be dd2 does not have such sensitive skins and I can use wipes from the word go!

CelticPromise · 04/05/2012 14:21

Still haven't started, except occasionally. DS is 2.8 Smile. I don't see the point, I think they are a waste of money and landfill. I just use mini muslins and water.

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/05/2012 14:24

straight away, you can't get anything off with cotton wool and water plus the cotton wool goes everywhere

MonaLotte · 04/05/2012 14:24

I used sudocrem when ds was that small and had no problems, never used bepanthen so can comment on that.
