What were you doing when your waters broke?

I'm 39 weeks pregnant with second dc. First time round I has slow leaking of waters for several days before I really clocked what it was and by then I was in labour. I had bad spd last time so didn't venture out too much in the last few weeks.

This time round no spd Smile so out and about being active with 2 yr old. Yesterday I started to get a bit paranoid about my waters going if I was out shopping or at soft play or something. Has this happened to anyone and how did you/others react??!

I worried about that in both of mine but in the end had mine broken when I was in the hospital both times. my best friend had all three of hers go whilst in bed.

With my second DS, it was our wedding anniversary but since I was overdue we didn't want to go out. We decided to get a curry in - joking about how eating a curry sometimes induces labour. DH went down to get it, I set the table and no sooner had I sat down than wooooosh! DH came home to me standing at the door with my bag packed and a large puddle on the kitchen floor. The curry really did work! Still think about fact I never got to eat it tho :)

With DS I was in hospital anyway for suspected and then confirmed pre-eclampsia. Was going to be induced on the Saturday. On the Friday morning had very vivid dream about two snooker balls crashing into each other and woke up to a saturated bed Grin. Was 38+2 when my waters broke.

With DD they were broken for me when I was about 9cm dilated I think.

JustOneMoreQuestion · 29/03/2012 09:34

For all 3 DC I was lying on a hospital bed with a midwife between my legs brandishing a crochet hook! :o

rosebery · 29/03/2012 09:36

With ds, they broke just as I was starting to push.

With dd, they broke as I was peeling the spuds for dinner. She arrived 90 mins later....

OrangeCrushed · 29/03/2012 09:37

Mine started as a slow trickle then the rest went whilst I was sat in the birthing pool having contractions and huffing gas and air like it was going out of fashion!

ghosteditor · 29/03/2012 09:37

I was on my hands and knees just starting to push Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/03/2012 09:38

Both times they had to be broken by the midwife.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 29/03/2012 09:43

Just as I was on my way to the bathroom after waking up in the morning.

first1 · 29/03/2012 09:46

With a crochet hook about 6cm Grin

blackteaplease · 29/03/2012 09:46

On my way to the bathroom after dinner, having been trickling all day.

londonmackem · 29/03/2012 09:51

In bed, no gush until I stood up though - I did n't have a covering on bed and it remained bone dry.

hmmmum · 29/03/2012 10:49

Mine didn't break til long after my contractions started and I was in hospital giving birth.

nickelhasababy · 29/03/2012 10:50

pushing the baby out Grin

mine didn't break until DD came out. (i don't think they were delivered intact)

Pascha · 29/03/2012 10:51

I think I was trying to provide a very bloody cup of urine for the midwife whilst 7cm dilated. There was fluid. I don't know if I managed to wee anything or if it was a combination of bleeding, wee and waters Confused.

Hassled · 29/03/2012 10:52

DC1 - I rolled over in bed.
DCs 2 & 3 - while pushing.
DC4 - a few minutes after playing football with DC3. Was quite dramatic.

vvviola · 29/03/2012 10:52

1st time - very nearly at my (very proper house proud) friend's Mum's house. Would have never lived it down Grin. In reality, just got home and went to bathroom when they went.

2nd time - by the MW because I'd got to 8cm without really feeling contractions & they wanted to move things on a bit. DD2 arrived 30 minutes later!

LemonEmmaP · 29/03/2012 10:53

With DS1 they were broken during labour. With DS2, I was at home, dancing with DS1 to a Wiggles DVD!

Astr0naut · 29/03/2012 10:55

Ds - started trickling when I was putting the washing out. I was planning to go to the shop, but decided it might be best not to!

Dd - I was pushing. I'd just asked teh midwife whether my waters had gone, or whether I'd done a wee - then my waters went and I knew it! Apparently it doesn't hurt as much if the waters break near the end.

GizzyBoo · 29/03/2012 10:57

I was conveniently sitting in the league of friends coffee shop at the hospital when mine went with a huge gush all over the chair and floor. I was soaking. It formed a right pond around me and I couldn't move. Hubby went off to find someone and left me there looking like a right lemon Grin

A wee boy was properly fascinated and came and crouched by my chair to watch the puddle spreading around me BlushGrin

Debs75 · 29/03/2012 10:58

All 3 dd's laid on a bed whilst some dr poked me with a large knitting needle. 1st time they could of sent me home which would of took us several hours and 2 bus changes, we were knackered so choose to have waters broke and to get a few hours kip at the hospital. She was overdue by a few days..
2nd drs insisted I have her early because of GD, they tried several times over a week but she wasn't ready, finally did it 4 days before she was due. I was carrying gallons of water which they said could of put me into shock if they had gone whist standing
3rd induced 3 weeks early as she had stopped growing
DS, his waters went whilst I was reading dd1 her bedtime story. They felt completely different to having them broken for me

chocolateandcoffee · 29/03/2012 10:59

8cm dilated with a crochet hook for both of mine

Charleymouse · 29/03/2012 10:59

DD1 broke whilst in labour, they were bulging apparantly, I was sat on the loo when they went and do not really remember them going.
DT1 went with an almight gush after I had got up top go to the loo then got back into bed in hospital.
DT2 was born with his sack intact and came out like a shrink wrapped chicken.
DD2 went in bed with a trickle then more of a gush when I got up. Had to leave Center Parcs under MW advice to get home NOW. I did let DH sleep for an extra hour or so though before waking him up to tell him.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 29/03/2012 11:00

DD1 - She was born in her waters

DD2 - 5:30am they broke when I went to the loo.

Charleymouse · 29/03/2012 11:01

Oh I also had polyhydramnios and they went everywhere with DT1. It was like a waterfall off the edge of my bed. I had to have the cleaners in mopping it up whilst it was leaking out. I also kept apologising to the MWs whose feet were getting wet.
