Anyone Due Today?

I am....not that the baby seems to have realised that. Actually, maybe this should have gone in Pregnancy...putting it in Childbirth may well be tempting fate for it to avoid said childbirth for another fortnight.

So, as the title says, anyone else due today? What are you up to, have you had any signs of impending motherhood?

Think im on about my 20th text this morning enquiring about baby's appearance Grin

How's it going LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite?

Blackkat · 18/12/2011 21:02

frankie I hate smears and have backed away too, my sweeps have hurt far less than a smear. They're not cold, it helps that you've met the person before (well that helped me). I was also advised by a friend to take a paracetamol an hour before, I relaxed as much as I could and tried my relaxation breathing. Helps if baby's head is pushing down on the cervix so if you have a ball sit on it and try to get baby into optimum position. Hth and good luck x

frankietwospots · 18/12/2011 21:07

Thanks Blackkat, I wouldn't have thought about having a paracetamol beforehand. I will give that a try. And a swig of sherry on top of that should sort me out! Wink

Has anyone on this thread had their baby yet? LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite Smile

Due date has arrived and I'm still pregnant, no signs yet. I seem to be able to make things happen during the day, go to bed and wake up feeling normal again. Yesterday I had a few hours of period pains and stabbing pains that turned into nothing. I did 4 floors of stairs down then back up in my local shopping centre, raspberry leaf tea, fresh pineapple, expressing, sex, housework, bath in essential oils. It was a nice day to be honest so I can't really complain that it didn't do anything. I now have nothing in my diary which I'm thinking is a bad and boring thing, this means I'm likely to spend my day trawling MN. Xmas Grin

frankietwospots it's not my birthday today but thank you, it's Grohlsgirl's

So what is everyone doing today?

sazzermol · 19/12/2011 09:59

Pixie04 my EDD came and went without a twinge too yesterday, so today I will be trying to remain on my feet or all fours busily completing last minute Christmas homemade stuff in an attempt to get little squatter to make an appearance before the weekend!

pixie04 · 19/12/2011 10:01

ooooo what homemade Christmas stuff are you making? We've done practically zilch for Christmas but I'm itching to do something. I've prepared the whole house ready for baby and finished my to do list so now I have nothing lined up.

Grohlsgirl · 19/12/2011 13:13

Got my fingers crossed for candle, hopefully no radio contact = baby!

Still no definite signs here, 40+7 now, had a rubbish "poor me" day yesterday but feeling alot more philosophical about it today. We were planning on going out for a birthday lunch but midwife is coming out to do a sweep "around lunchtime" whenever that may be so looks like it will be a quiet one at home for me. Might make mince pies later once OH has gone to work...Smile

justabigdisco · 19/12/2011 20:48

hi can I join this thread, I am due tomorrow!
am seeing midwife on Thurs so will be 40+2, she is going to offer me a sweep but I think I will decline it as don't want to increase chances of baby coming on Xmas day!!
they offer induction at 40+12 at my hospital which will be the 1st of Jan. also not keen on induction really - don't want to end up with monitoring, and possible instrumental delivery/section. my midwife pulled a bit of a Hmm face when I mentioned that I might want to wait until 42 weeks.

sazzermol · 19/12/2011 22:40

Sorry Pixie, logged off after that! I've made little aprons and chef hats for nephews and nieces today but have also had a mammoth food make this year - various flavoured vodkas, mustards, chilli jam, flavoured sugars and salts. Got some sweetie type things and spiced nuts to go then I'm officially DONE!

ChristmasPullyWoolOver · 20/12/2011 05:29

Anyone heard from candle? wondering how she's getting on.

Mini Pully arrived yesterday evening - she's a girl! We're absolutely thrilled and completely in love already. Labour was very long and tiring but definitely worth it Grin.

Fingers crossed that things start to happen for you all soon.

Grohlsgirl · 20/12/2011 08:07

christmaspully congratulations! Welcome to the world Mini Pully! Smile

tenderheart · 20/12/2011 11:51

Congratulations christmaspully! Wonderful news!

Well I am still waiting! Twinging last night and I got all excited for bugger all. Absolutely no signs this baby is coming! Shitting myself about induction.

40+9! I can't believe it! I just want to meet the little pudding now!

Hope everyone else is holding up ok!

ChristmasPullyWoolOver · 20/12/2011 12:16

Thanks grohlsgirl! hope I can wish you the same soon!

tender try not to worry about induction, I was induced and ended up having the works - pessary, drip, epidural and forceps delivery which would have scared me witless if I'd known in advance. In reality it really wasn't that bad, the staff were amazing and we got our gorgeous baby at the end!

frankietwospots · 20/12/2011 12:32

41 weeks today and still nothing - bah! Congrats on Mini Pully - that is sooo good to hear!

Grohlsgirl · 20/12/2011 17:03

40+8, second sweep yesterday has clearly done buggar all, can i maintain my resolve and not go for induction tomorrow...?! Absolutely no medical reason to go for it, would just be convenient, but will i then be filled with regret afterwards?! Decisions decisions...

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 21/12/2011 08:05

ChristmasPully congratulations!!!!

LittleCandle arrived Monday 19th at 4.03am, posted the below on my 'Am I in Labour Thread' so have copy/paste for you lot too:

So sorry that I haven't had the chance to update, I dont have a smartphone, so hospital was a Mumsnet-free zone for me Sad

Went in about 9am on Sunday, and was 2/3cms, whoop! Contractions were close together but not massively so, so they mentioned me going home. While trying to get my shoes on, I had three in quick succession, so they decided to keep me in and start me on antibi's. Must say, thr ward sister seemed keen for me NOT to have them, saying that as I tested -ve at 36 weeks, they could just monitor baby instead....erm, no thank you, if I can have them, then it removes risk to baby. If I dont have them, it puts baby at a possile risk -why would I go without?! Managed to get antibios.

Checked again about 12noon, was 3/4 cms, had to have G&A, which I didnt mind using, but freaked me out totally - I felt so woozy and out of control, so I said I wouldnt use any more. Laboured until 4pm without it, and when checked again was still 4cm, so decided I best become friendly with the G&A as at this point I was exhausted. As the labour progressed, I also had Diamorphene, which I'd not considered, but worked really well in removing the pain of the smaller contractions, allowing me the strength to work through the bigger ones (at first I thought cxns were wearing off, turns out I just couldn't feel them). Cxns tailed right off towards the end of the night, and babys heartrate wasn;t as strong (but not massively concerning), so they put me on the drip to speed things up a little, and the cxn were imense. Id heard they are intense when on the drip, but this was a shock! Thankfully, at the next exam, I was 10cm (1am, maybe, by this point?) so I could start pushing.

Baby struggling to come down, so docs had a check and she'd turned Back to Back, and head was back, rather than chin down Sad gutted as she'd been in the ideal position since about 30 weeks!

Tried a bit more pushing, but baby and I both exhausted, so docs said they would like to try forceps, but the chance of c-sec would be big too. Things got a bit hectic, from then, poor DH was astonished, I think, at how swift they make decisions and get stuff going. So, booled down to theatre and they prepped me for c-sec. The contractions I had here were the worst, as I knew I wouldn't be pushing with them, and sort of felt like I couldnt get anything out of them, they were just pain, for pains sake, iyswim. Epidural went in, and I felt such relief. Was daunting everyone around, and lots going on, but the doc did the most amazing job, and they talked me through pushing with forcpes assisting, with the most tiny cut and our little girl was born just after 4am on Monday morning. Totally breathtaking, and bizarre! DH cut the cord and had loads of time holding her while I was stiched and cleaned up etc then we had a few hours on the recovery ward while my legs came back around. We were both so shattered, after the past 24 hours, but the adrenaline was amazing.

Sorry for mammoth post, just with not being able to update as I go!!
Anyways, we are home now, just had our first night all three of us, was long but lovely.

Off to catch up with what everyone else has been up to on here...

Grin^

welcome little Candle.

Couldn't find your labour thread. So glad to hear your wonderful news. I hope you are home and in your own bed (bliss). x Thanks

tenderheart · 21/12/2011 12:04

Congratulations candle! A little festive treat!
Well this little mince pie is not for budging still! Trying to call antenatal clinic to try and change date for induction to give myself a bit more time to go naturally! Straight to answer twice and no call back! Great stuff eh!

No signs at all of impending labour Angry

How are the rest of you doing?

ChristmasPullyWoolOver · 21/12/2011 12:17

Congratulations candle and welcome to the world little candle! Hope you're all having a lovely time getting to know each other.

Feeling a little sleep-deprived here, but this is what we signed up for after all! Mini Pully is just adorable. Am planning a flying visit to mothercare on Friday to treat self to a few girly clothes - we didn't know what we were having so can indulge in a little retail therapy now, hurrah!

Good luck to everyone still waiting, sending strong labour vibes your way x

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 21/12/2011 18:25

Ooooh, a trip to Mothercare may be just what the doctor ordered for us too Christmas at 6lb 11 she's too dinky for any of the newborn stuff we have, so a couple of sleepsuits may come in handy in the right size.

Also, for anyone who has tested +ve for Strep, stand firm!! MW tried to get me to go without "You'll be fine, you were -ve at 36 weeks"....they did a swab during labour and it was +ve, and only just rang me at home tell me and to "get me to keep an eye on her"....erm, well, actually, I had the antibio's so she's fine, and I only got that as I insisted Angry

The birth may not have gone to plan, which I am happy with, but this has annoyed me. Please, please, if anyone is +ve for Strep at any point in the pregnancy, insist on antibios in labour. Dont let them fob you off!

frankietwospots · 22/12/2011 21:31

Congrats Candle - great news to hear that Little Candle has arrived! Thanks for your advice on Strep B too. I have tested positive so will make sure I get my antibiotics! Still no signs of labour at 40 + 9. I may get the induction call from the hosp tomorrow so will cross that when I come to it...

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 22/12/2011 22:38

Thanks Frankie and the best of luck for you tomorrow.

purpleflower123 · 22/12/2011 23:05

Congratulations :)

I'm 40+4 with DC3, I honestly thought this one would be early. My other 2 were both 7 days over which takes us to christmas day, I don't want to spend it without DC1+2 :(

I had a sweep monday, niggles all day and a huge show, nothing but snot since. I've had enough now and want this baby out!

Booked in for another sweep on the 24th and induction on the 30th. I'm hoping for another homebirth so really don't want to be induced.

frankietwospots · 23/12/2011 22:53

Hospital didn't even phone me today to call me in for induction. Tough luck if they phone me tomorrow - I'm getting my nails done! 40 + 10 and still no twinges. Getting a bit daft now. Thank god baby is still wriggling loads...well he was when I gave him some dandelion & burdock this evening!

Good luck with the sweep purpleflower123.

Skillbo · 23/12/2011 23:19

Am 'only' 40+4 but that 4 is driving me batty! Too many texts, too close to Xmas now as don't want to be without DD on the day and am just sooo uncomfy at night these days..

So mini rant over - lovely to see some ladies on this thread having some luck and here's hoping the rest of us succeed nice and soon!!
