ChristmasPully congratulations!!!!
LittleCandle arrived Monday 19th at 4.03am, posted the below on my 'Am I in Labour Thread' so have copy/paste for you lot too:
So sorry that I haven't had the chance to update, I dont have a smartphone, so hospital was a Mumsnet-free zone for me
Went in about 9am on Sunday, and was 2/3cms, whoop! Contractions were close together but not massively so, so they mentioned me going home. While trying to get my shoes on, I had three in quick succession, so they decided to keep me in and start me on antibi's. Must say, thr ward sister seemed keen for me NOT to have them, saying that as I tested -ve at 36 weeks, they could just monitor baby instead....erm, no thank you, if I can have them, then it removes risk to baby. If I dont have them, it puts baby at a possile risk -why would I go without?! Managed to get antibios.
Checked again about 12noon, was 3/4 cms, had to have G&A, which I didnt mind using, but freaked me out totally - I felt so woozy and out of control, so I said I wouldnt use any more. Laboured until 4pm without it, and when checked again was still 4cm, so decided I best become friendly with the G&A as at this point I was exhausted. As the labour progressed, I also had Diamorphene, which I'd not considered, but worked really well in removing the pain of the smaller contractions, allowing me the strength to work through the bigger ones (at first I thought cxns were wearing off, turns out I just couldn't feel them). Cxns tailed right off towards the end of the night, and babys heartrate wasn;t as strong (but not massively concerning), so they put me on the drip to speed things up a little, and the cxn were imense. Id heard they are intense when on the drip, but this was a shock! Thankfully, at the next exam, I was 10cm (1am, maybe, by this point?) so I could start pushing.
Baby struggling to come down, so docs had a check and she'd turned Back to Back, and head was back, rather than chin down
gutted as she'd been in the ideal position since about 30 weeks!
Tried a bit more pushing, but baby and I both exhausted, so docs said they would like to try forceps, but the chance of c-sec would be big too. Things got a bit hectic, from then, poor DH was astonished, I think, at how swift they make decisions and get stuff going. So, booled down to theatre and they prepped me for c-sec. The contractions I had here were the worst, as I knew I wouldn't be pushing with them, and sort of felt like I couldnt get anything out of them, they were just pain, for pains sake, iyswim. Epidural went in, and I felt such relief. Was daunting everyone around, and lots going on, but the doc did the most amazing job, and they talked me through pushing with forcpes assisting, with the most tiny cut and our little girl was born just after 4am on Monday morning. Totally breathtaking, and bizarre! DH cut the cord and had loads of time holding her while I was stiched and cleaned up etc then we had a few hours on the recovery ward while my legs came back around. We were both so shattered, after the past 24 hours, but the adrenaline was amazing.
Sorry for mammoth post, just with not being able to update as I go!!
Anyways, we are home now, just had our first night all three of us, was long but lovely.
Off to catch up with what everyone else has been up to on here...
