If you had a 2 day labour with DC1, how long did DC2 take?

That's it really, just wondering how people's second labour compared to first, 2 day labour. Thanks!

9 hours.

KellyKettle · 26/10/2011 13:19

DC2 about 16hrs of contractions but they stopped for a couple of hours and were manageable most of the day.

Contractions started at 2:30am. Stopped at 8:30am. Started again at 11:30am. Had dinner at 7pm ish so still not feeling difficult.

Active labour recorded as 1:55 in the end, second stage 20 mins.

DC2 so so much easier than DC1. So much so that 10 days post birth we're discussing DC3....

Good luck, I think you'll have a much easier time.

izzybiz · 26/10/2011 13:20

Dc1- 2 days

Dc2- 2 hours

Dc3- 3hours

ohbabybaby · 26/10/2011 13:23

13 hours after waters broke (the start), but only an hour or so of really painful contractions, official length of established labour 11 mins Smile

Good luck - can be totally different to the first labour!

bizzieb33 · 26/10/2011 13:27

4 hours from first really mild contraction, probs only 1 1/2 hours of agony discomfort Smile

tabulahrasa · 26/10/2011 13:28

DS was 72 hours from first contractions to giving birth, DD was 6 hours, lol

TobyLeWolef · 26/10/2011 13:30

I had a 3-day (from first contraction to birth) labour with DC1.

I had a 3-day (from first contraction to birth) labour with DC2.

These contractions were every 5 minutes, morning and night, non-stop for the 3 days before my 40+14 induction appointment. With each child, I made it to 3cm before they began the already-scheduled induction procedure.

To be fair, though, the actual labours once induction was started were completely different, with different induction methods being used.

cece · 26/10/2011 13:34

6 hrs 45 mins

tiokiko · 26/10/2011 13:35

DD1 was 3.5 days total (3 days irregular but strong contractions at home then 10hrs in hosp).

DD2 (last week) was 1hr total from first contraction to her being born 3 mins after we arrived at the hospital.

I was expecting things to be faster this time round but nothing like that - I had acupuncture the day before to try to avoid being induced, not sure if it was down to that but it was definitely fast!

ShowOfHands · 26/10/2011 13:37

DD: 31hrs
DS: 38hrs

Both emcs in the end.

lemniscate · 26/10/2011 13:45

DC1: 43 hours, 15 hours from 3cm (syntocinon to speed it up for last 4 hours otherwise it would have been much longer!), 1 hour pushing :(

DC2: 7 hours from induction gel, 2 hours from 3cm, 15 mins pushing :o

spiggy · 26/10/2011 13:59

DC1 36 hrs, drip, waters broken, ventouse, 2hrs pushing.

DC2 Eating my dinner to holding a baby- 20mins. Grin There was a bit of "ooh I feel a bit uncomfortable" beforehand but I didn't think I was in labour. Then my waters went and I was pushing.

DC3 2 1/2 hours. But I called the mw when I thought something was happening (after DC2 I didn't want to risk leaving it late) and I was already 7cm when she arrived.

notcitrus · 26/10/2011 14:07

This is all really reassuring, thank you everyone!
(dc1 35 hours, dc2 due early next year...)

peachsmuggler · 26/10/2011 16:06

Thanks for the responses everyone. DD was 47 hours from first (painful and regular) contractions to eventual forceped delivery including being induced on drip after contractions slowed down after about 30 hours.

It's reassuring to know the second labour can be a more manageable time, though not sure about prospect of 20 minute labour!!! Ha ha, what a shock that must have been!

I think I am worried that I will be slightly blasé about getting to hospital, thinking it will be hours yet.

For those having a second hospital birth did you all know that you needed to get a wriggle on??? Will have to get DD off to a chums and then get a taxi to hosp so don't want to leave it too late!!!

Ds1-50 hrs emcs as back 2 back
Ds2-7 hrs
Ds3-4 hrs
Ds4-4 hrs

GalloweesG · 26/10/2011 17:12

Ds1 - about 3 weeks days.

Ds2 - precisely 2.5 hours from waking up at 5.30 with a pain to having a baby in my bed (at home, unplanned) by 8 am. I rang the pils before the Placenta had even been delivered.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 26/10/2011 18:48

DC1 - 3 days
DC2 75 mins.

I knew, knew with DC2 that I wasn't far on but needed to get to hospital NOW. I arrived, they examined me and declared me 2cms and said I was way too early for any kind of pain relief (including the pool which was full and waiting for me). DD was born about 40 mins later. I am very grateful to the midwives though because even though they thought I had hours to go, they didn't attempt to send me away as they could see that my contractions were really strong and they listened to me saying that I thought things would move fast.

peachsmuggler · 27/10/2011 17:12

Wow! 3 days to 75 mins, that is just crazy! Seems like dilation happens much faster second time around. I'll not hang about too much when this all kicks off!!!!

Good luck and best wishes Smile

peachsmuggler · 27/10/2011 20:32

Am amazed/terrified at the speed of some of these second labours. Did you all find them a more positive experience or were they just as traumatic in their own way?

spiggy · 27/10/2011 20:35

I really, really didn't think that I was in labour with DC2 or 3. I phoned the mw with DC3 as DP was a bit twitchy but I was fully expecting her to say 3 or 4 cm instead of 7! I thought it was early labour niggles. (you'd think I'd know better really)

What I would suggest is don't set yourself a target such as going in with contractions X mins apart, when your waters go, or have a show. I did not have a show with DC2 or 3 (if I did it was lost over a number of days and was not noticeable), waters went while pushing and contractions were 15 mins apart. With DC2 I was expecting a show and contractions to be closer together so carried on pottering round, having my dinner etc She ended up being born at home as the paramedic had his back to me telling DP that we had plenty of time to get to the hospital Hmm DC3 was planned hb so I didn't have to think about leaving the house!

Good Luck!

Stokey38 · 27/10/2011 20:35

7 hours and so much better than the first in every way

BedatHogwarts · 27/10/2011 20:37

I'll let you know in a few days!! My first birth sounds very similar to yours, including the forceps. Hoping for quicker and easier this time!

discrete · 27/10/2011 20:39

3 hours. very easy second labour.

Much worse afterpains, though.
