If you had a 2 day labour with DC1, how long did DC2 take?

That's it really, just wondering how people's second labour compared to first, 2 day labour. Thanks!

DD1 - days & days (& days...)

DD2 - less than 5 hours from mild niggle to first cuddle

JamInMyWellies · 27/10/2011 20:45

DS1 3 days of very painful back to back labour.
DS2 6 hours of niggly labour and 4cm - 10cm and pushing in 5 mins labour.

26 hrs and 7 hrs, DD1 says she's sorry she'd forgotten to grow any fingernails.
DD2 has never said sorry for the fact that she forgot the gaps between contractionsGrin

I did go into shock with DC2 (so did DP) but once that wore off it was the most amazing feeling. I remember going to the supermarket when she was 3 days old and the cashier being impressed that I was up and about- I told her that I felt like I could run a marathon or climb a mountain (not normally my idea of fun Grin) I don't think I will ever feel that kind of adrenaline rush again.

DC3 at 2 1/2 hours felt positively leisurely compared to that but again was a really great experience and I felt fabulous afterwards.

Despite the speed of things with both labours I never felt out of control the way that I did with DC1. With DC2 I remember being able to think about the fact that I was obviously going to deliver at home and possibly without help and being able to think about what I would have to do. Luckily I'd read an article on what to do a few weeks previously. I never thought I'd need it.

I think I might read an article too spiggy!

Good luck bedathogwarts!

DC1 - c.3 days
DC2 - 1hr 20 mins from first contraction. Had her within 4 mins of getting to hospital, just managed to get my pants off, was standing up, midwife caught her.

DS 36 hours, induced and ventouse, had to be dragged out.

DD 1 1/2 hours of mild pain, 1/2 hour of strong contractions, 15 mins pushing. In total around 2 1/2 hours. She fell out WinkGrin.

Good luck!

Mine were:

1st: 54 hours
2nd: 19 minutes
3rd: 6 hours
4th: 4 minutes
5th: 5 hours

DC1 took DAYS (56 hours, I seem to remember). Lots of niggly contractions that kept me awake and didn't get us anywhere. DC2 I got to 10cm in about 7 hours, but then he went the wrong way and I ended up having another c/section. So much for the proverbial male sense of spatial awareness [hhmm]

OddBoots, I am [hshock] at 4 mins!

"I think I am worried that I will be slightly blasé about getting to hospital, thinking it will be hours yet. "

Yeah, I did this. DD1 took about 3 days to arrive. DD2 was 7 hours.

When my contractions started at 2am with DD2 I got up without disturbing DH and settled down to wait. They never became really regular so I didn't feel there was any need to hurry or organise my mum to come for DD1 etc. When I finally did sort everything out, the contractions became very strong very quickly. I did make it to the hospital, but DD2 was born about 15 minutes after I got there and I had a nightmare drive through rush hour traffic.

So I'd advise going in earlier than you think you need to! Grin

My word you're all scaring me. My DD was prem and there's a good chance DC2 will be too, so I'd need to get to hospital in good time for steroids, drips to slow things down etc. I was thinking I'd be ok as DD's labour was four days. But now I'm all in a tizzy!!

Oh well. Just another thing to add to my list of unnecessary worries! (I'm accumulating quite a lot)

OddBoots · 28/10/2011 08:23

The 4 minutes one. I had been having irregular contractions, nothing too much and not really painful but as it was a surrogate pregnancy and the parents were 4 hours away I wanted to call them asap when things happened so I asked dh to drop me to the hospital to be checked.

I was expecting to be told either it was just BH or it was early labour but I walked in the door and suddenly needed to push. My poor friends missed the birth by a long shot. I had probably been in labour all night but didn't notice.
