Second Baby - Early or Late?

tinyfeet · 14/10/2003 17:02

Hi - there are lots of threads on second labours -seems the unanimous comments are that the second labours are easier and shorter than first ones. There doesn't seem to be any threads on whether the second baby came early or late or on-time? I'm hoping my second will be late, but was wondering if that's unlikely with the second baby.

Tinyfeet - I was due new years eve last year - so know how you feel. Over Xmas & New Year everyone was saying "dance, jump up and down!" but I just kept my legs crossed - I was the 1% of women who wanted to be very overdue (and I was, and I didn't enjoy the 11 day wait, but I'm glad, for ds's sake that he was that late)

Queenie · 14/10/2003 20:27

Baby 1 - 9 days over
Baby 2 - 11 days over (induced)

tinyfeet · 14/10/2003 20:32

Lucky you, Fisil! I would love for DD to be born around January 10 or somewhere thereabouts. Does seem that most 2nd babies are coming a bit earlier though. Polly28-amazed how late both yours were.

Baby 1 - 4 days late
Baby 2 - 1 day early
Baby 3 - 11 days early (elective cs though)

Oh no, not stupid, tinyfeet, altho' I'd be wishing a couple of weeks early rather than late. my ds2 was born on 2nd January. Now he's still too young to be aware, but I'm sure he'll hate me & never forgive me! It has to be a really crap dob. I'm sure Christmas day itself is even worse.

tinyfeet · 14/10/2003 20:55

Monkey, I think January 2 is better than say, December 23 when everyone is running around trying to finish up Christmas shopping etc. I'd be happy with January 2 Also, call it weird, but I'd rather have a baby born early in the year than late in the year. Don't know why, but just like the idea.

Both mine were late. DD arrived after a vigorous "sweep", ds I was induced. Talking of Christmas babies, ds was due Christmas day but was born the 29th. I think 4 days after is preferable to 4 days before. Before it would get kind of lost in the pre Christmas excitement, at least after it will help lift a slightly flat period. (DD was born mid June, ideally placed exactly 6 months pre/post Xmas)

I haven't had my second baby yet but I can tell you that my mum was due with me on December 31st and I made my appearance on January 10th, so that is a good birthday to have
And my brother was 2 days late so both her babies were late.

lilymum · 14/10/2003 22:31

dd1 - 4 days early
dd2 - 8 days early
dd3 - 2 days late

No pattern there! Just cross your legs and don't get indigestion at Christmas by over-eating in case it starts labour! Good luck!

elena2 · 14/10/2003 22:38

My ds1 was 5 days late, and ds2 was 10 days late! Thought he was never coming!

My SIL went 10 days over with both her girls, and had to be induced with them both.

I reckon everyone had a 'gestation' period that determines how long they carry babies for, so it depends on how accurate you think your due date is.

Good luck whatever happens!

bluebear · 16/10/2003 09:22

ds - 10 days early.
Current bump is now 6 days overdue and counting.

motherinferior · 16/10/2003 17:16

DD1 was two days early: dd2 was 16.

monkey · 16/10/2003 21:06

poor you, blue bear. tonight may be the night. good luck!!!!

Slinky · 16/10/2003 21:43

My 1st was 8 days late, my 2nd was 4 days early (planned induction) and (hate to say this!) but No 3 hung on for 16 days!!!

Hope things happen soon - it's horrible when you go over

monkey · 17/10/2003 09:17

oh no slinky - don't say that!!

Kazziegirl · 17/10/2003 21:23

My 1st was 2 weeks late and my 2nd was born on her due date.

musica · 17/10/2003 21:27

1st - 12 days late. 2nd - 14 days late. BUT - at 8 week scan, 1st was about 3 days behind, and 2nd was about 5 days behind for what the dates would have suggested.

EmmaTMG · 17/10/2003 21:31

DS1+2 were both 6 days late and DS3 was 3 days late, just 3 weeks + 2 days ago.
Strangley they all came on the day I was meant to have an antenatal appointment where I would have given me a date for induction.

doormat · 17/10/2003 21:32

1st- day after due date
2nd- 12 days late
3rd- due date
4th- 3 and half weeks early
5th- 2 weeks early
6th- 8 days late

Khara · 17/10/2003 21:52

Ds1 - 1 day early

Ds2 - 2 days early

tinyfeet · 17/10/2003 21:54

Wow, Doormat - I had no idea you have 6 kids! How can you even remember?!! God bless you and all 6 of your children.

Bluebear, if you're around, good luck!!

tinyfeet with great diffulculty LOL

WideWebWitch · 17/10/2003 22:51

This is interesting, anyone worked out whether there's a pattern or not? Needs someone with a very boring day at work I guess

2under2 · 19/10/2003 15:53

dd1 - induced at 41 weeks
dd2 - spontaneous at 39 + 5
really hoping baby no.3 will be a 38 weeker - can't possibly get any larger (and I'm only 35 weeks). groan

scottiebabe · 19/10/2003 16:12

Second was late - eleven yrs after first but then she was eight days over but labour was only 1hr 50 mins from start to finish so she made up time in the end
