I'm booked in for a C section next week and whilst my bag is ready and packed, if i were to forget my toothbrush, would the hospital provide one for me? There's nothing worse than forgetting your toohbrush!!

You can buy them in most hospital shops Smile

IlovePeterAndre · 06/01/2011 14:32

Thank you. Im having a c section and wont be able to get to the shops. Maybe im worrying over nothing. Will they bring them up from the shop to the bed do you think?
Also are there tv's in the ward?

Which hospital will you be in?

I has a cs too, and they do make you get up the next day to go and brush teeth etc. Not much fun at the time, but certainly helped me to get up and about more quickly.

I didn't have a tv, but was far from bored Grin

Could you get a visitor to get one?

hazchem · 06/01/2011 15:33

this might sound crazy but why not buy a travel toothbrush and toothpaste and pack them now.

I'm a bit umm strange but even though I'm planning a homebirth have pack a hosptial bag including toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampooo ect.

reikizen · 06/01/2011 15:34

why would you remember everything else and forget your toothbrush? I'm confused? Can you not buy one and put it in your bag?

starfishmummy · 06/01/2011 15:54

Agree with tehersend - they got me up and heped me to bath on the first day. After that I was on my own which was a pain as there were no showers and getting in/out the bath was very hard.

Woodlands · 06/01/2011 16:22

i bought a new one and packed it. i was still catheterised at bedtime that first night but the kind midwife brought me a kidney dish for spitting so i could clean my teeth in bed - was desperate to clean them having not done so for 36 hours and having eaten lots of yoghurt covered raisins/sugary stuff during labour. they felt really furry!

Tarlia · 06/01/2011 16:27

I chucked a couple of new ones in my bag for myself and OH, that way there is no last min panic. You can easily pick up cheap ones or get two decent ones BOGOF.

Thanks everyone. Im booked in for Monday and My DH is on days next week so he cant be there. I guess i'll just have to try and remember to put one in my bag between now and then.
Im booked in at St Michaels in Bristol and ive been told that they have telly's next to the bed. I think they have the vending tv/phone/interweb ones you mentioned QTpie. Can you text from the phones? Or can i use my mobile?

Sorry but if im going to be in for a few days then i'll be bored senseless if im completely cut off from everthing.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but is it your first child?

I think you should make a list like the following:

  1. Pack toothbrush
  2. Get DH to do all the nappy changing for a month since he's not making the birth!
:)

peterandre Why is your DP not taking paternity leave ?

Buy a spare toothbrush and paste and pack it now.

IlovePeterAndre · 06/01/2011 21:21

Thanks DeeMcco and QTPie. I've just packed 2 toothbrushes so I should be fine. DH won't change nappies. This is going to be his 4th child and he says that he's not done it before so he won't start now which annoys me a bit to be honest.
He can't take paternity because this time of year is really busy workwise. He runs a talent agency for stage animals (wellard from eastenders is one of them) with his ex and apparently January is really busy.

Hmm
trixie123 · 06/01/2011 22:30

fuck me, sorry but you're husband won't be at the birth because he is a talent agent for animals?? If you said he was a fireman or something I might get it. Sorry, I spend too much time an AIBU and you haven't asked us to comment on your DHs behaviour but couldn't let it go without at least a Hmm

tethersend · 06/01/2011 22:59

This is clearly bollocks, isn't it?

IlovePeterAndre · 07/01/2011 08:40

Thanks tethersend, yes it is bollocks. I asked a simple question about a toothbrush and whilst i appreciate some of the helpful comments i just think its unfair to comment on someone you dont know.

DH cant be at the birth because most of his clients are desperate for work following the pantomine season which, for those of you who dont know, is the most lucrative time of the year for stage animals. The flip side is that in the new year there are too many animals auditioning for too few roles so he needs to work.

He will of course come to see me in the evenings and ive spent enough time looking after my DH's other children to know what life will be like and im hopeful that i'll be able to cope with the 'bloomin' hard work of motherhood.

You know it might be a little less 'bloomin' (ridiculous) hard work if some people spent more time being a mum rather than projecting their own parental inadequacies onto others.

So I married a real man who has a successful career in showbusiness. I just dont see why some of you have a problem with it. Maybe its jealousy but all i wanted to know is if the hospital would provide a toothbrush!!
