I presume it is my waters as I've been trickling since 7 am this morning. No sign of any contractions yet.

I have read that if you don't get going within 24-48 hrs you may need to be induced. Should I just wait until contractions have started before ringing midwife or if I don't get any contractions within 48 hrs, ring the

Hello all, sorry for the lack of posts, only returned home from hospital this morning. Lovely Rosalind Olivia was born at 10.42pm on Wednesday night, 7lbs 11oz.

The hospital insisted I went in on Wednesday morning, and by that point I was quite keen for a bit of a helping hand to get things going so headed in first thing. Unfortunately, the ward was very busy and little Rosalind was quite comfy staying put, so they didn't get round to putting the drip in til 8.15pm. It was a very frustrating day, but at least it gave me the time to see if it was going to happen by itself, which it clearly wasn't.

So, drip in at 8.15, baby born 2 and a half hours later. Fast and furious resulting in a complicated three degree tear which needed repairing in theatre with a spinal block. All very different to my lovely calm homebirth with DD1, but the end result is worth it of course Grin. She's doing really well, snoozed most of yesterday then spent all last night feeding feeding feeding, so I'll be expecting a fairly healthy supply to kick in quite soon... I'll see about putting a pic on my profile for a short while.

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Wow i am so happy to hear that wem! Congrats on your new darling - love her name too.

Sorry you didn't have the hb you wanted but hey what a quick birth once drip went in! Shame about the 3rd degree tear tho - ouch!
Take it easy and have some warm salt baths.

Congrats Wem, and that's a beautiful name. I had an awful experience. Just got back frm hosp 2day :(

I called my mw at 11pm, she came out at 11.30 and I was 2 cm and she said she would come back when I was worse. She said, you probs won't even be 4-5 cm by 4-5 am, but if I feel I can't cope, to ring. It got to 3am and i was in agony. didn't want to get in pool until I was at least 5cm in case I stopped/slowed labour so hung round for ages when husb. tried to get in touch with mat. ass. unit at North tyneside hosp. 30 mins before anyone answered. He said he would ring mw straight away and get her to ring me.

1 hr passed and still nothing. By this point I was in that much pain, I was in the pool. He tried to ring the mat. ass. unit again to say she hadn't called, but again, no answer. I had to ring my dad who has terminal lung cancer to take me to the hosp. at stoopid o clock in morning as the RVI had an hr wait on ambulances.

Got there and my bp was ridiculously high, and I was 8cm dilated. So much for not even 4 or 5 so I couldn't have any entonox until they knew what was going on with bp. Eventually got it:) They asked if I wanted the birth pool, but by this point of hrs in agony with no entonox, I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep so got an epidral.

A lot of talk of possible assisted delivery/ cs as the rim of my cervix wouldn'y move out the way, and my bp was ridiculously high. Vontouse delivery needed in end but mam and baby Taylor are both doing well now. He was born at 5.50pm and weighed a rather hefty 8lb 8oz haha.

I know I would have needed to go to hosp. anyway, but to get to 8cm with not so much as a phonecall off mw, I was disgusted. When I arrived at RVI, the mw there said her superior had been told what had happened and had already rang North Tyneside hosp. to complain. I could have had a calm first half of labour, if only I had entonox but instead in agony, high bp, and worrying about pain and whether I was doing the right thing getting in the pool or not.

I have to say though, the RVI were absolutely amazing and all the mw's doctors, well just everyone were awesome. I'm really glad I chose that hosp over the one on my doorstep and would recommend it to everyone who lives in area.

Thank you for all the well wishes everyone, and again Wem, glad things worked out well for you :)

Ah Lou, so glad to hear your ordeal is finally over and that you have a gorgeous son.
Can't believe the mw's negligence so def put in a complaint.

Congratulations hon and get some sleep whilst you can. So pleased for both you and wem and I feel priviledged to have been almost a part of it on this thread i accidently stumbled upon.

xx

mamasunshine · 02/10/2010 09:41

Shock at your experience Lou with not being able to get a MW out??!!! WHat on earth? That must have been very scary for you and your dp. Absolutely dreadful leaving you like that.

But Grin and huge congratulations on your baby boy Taylor Smile, another fab name!
