Home birth, waters have gone, when do I ring

I presume it is my waters as I've been trickling since 7 am this morning. No sign of any contractions yet.

I have read that if you don't get going within 24-48 hrs you may need to be induced. Should I just wait until contractions have started before ringing midwife or if I don't get any contractions within 48 hrs, ring the

Lou - totally irrelevant as you want a hb, but I had my postnatal checks on ward 33 at the RVI and all the mws were lovely. I knew you were a geordie when I heard you mention your 'mam'. Good luck :)

PaulineCampbellJones · 28/09/2010 19:14

Good luck to both of you! Exciting thread.

NonnoMum · 28/09/2010 19:17

Good luck!

bottyburpthebarbarian · 28/09/2010 19:19

Good luck ladies

Bumperlicious · 28/09/2010 19:20

Wow good luck, this does sound like it. Have you called hospital or mw yet? Just to let them know. This time last week I'd just had dd2 at home :). Keep us posted.

thefirstmrsDeVere · 28/09/2010 19:27

I had two hbs. My waters never usually break until I baby is about to come out. With DC 4 I think they started trickling after me and OH erm tried to get things going a bit (you can see where the confusion could arise).

I didnt say a word. I couldnt bear the thought of going into hosptial just in case. Was that really bad? I wouldnt recommend it or anything. They started trickling at about 1am and DC4 was born at 3pm.

Anyway GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

PlumBumMum · 28/09/2010 19:31

Oh exciting

Bad period pains = CONTRACTIONS

bottyburpthebarbarian · 28/09/2010 19:47

Red or white Plum?

Oh I found pringles....

StrangewaysHereICome · 28/09/2010 19:53

Ooooh I like these threads ....

I had a hb with dd2. My waters went in the middle of the night, I didn't ring the mw until later the following morning although there were no contractions. I was sent to hosp for monitoring later in the afternoon but as I got there the contractions started and the mw there gave me a quick check and sent me home! DD was born at 9.30pm a fantastic experience. Good luck girls Smile.

MumInBeds · 28/09/2010 19:57

Very exciting for both of you, I hope things get going soon.

PlumBumMum · 28/09/2010 20:01

Have we times on the contractions yet?

EdgarAllInPink · 28/09/2010 20:06

ooh...DD1 my waters went first - cont-x started within 8 hours though....(so didn't get dragged in, though i wasn't on MN so wouldn't have thought about tellng them to sod off necessarily)

good luck!

nipple tweaking started my other two labours, can't recomend it enough!

LouM10 · 28/09/2010 20:49

hello all, in particular Lou, hope things are moving on for you.

If I told you I am chomping on the chocolate biscuits I bought for the midwives for my homebirth, would that give you an idea of my current expectations? I've come round to the idea of going in for an induction, if only to feel something happening! It's so bizarre, my waters didn't go til almost at the pushing stage last time, so all this waiting is quite surreal. Still, I'll give it the night, and either I'll get some much needed sleep, or things will get started.

wem · 28/09/2010 20:51

x-posts Lou - it's so frustrating isn't it!

nigglewiggle · 28/09/2010 20:55

Sending positive labour vibes - get tweeking ladies!

MumInBeds · 28/09/2010 22:04

Hoping things are happening...

wem · 29/09/2010 03:48

Well, things finally seem to be getting going. Getting fairly mild contractions, less than a minute long and about 8ish minutes apart. But at least something's happening! Hopefully things will progress and I'll be able to get someone to come out to me rather than going in.

I've got a question about contraction timing though, do I time until it stops hurting, or until my belly softens?

SilverSky · 29/09/2010 04:29

I've no idea!!! My gut would say til the pain goes?

Good luck and comeback and post all about your newborn!!!!

chimchar · 29/09/2010 06:39

good luck girls...hope you both get your hb.

mungogerry · 29/09/2010 07:13

I hope you are both sleeping with babies in the crooks of your arm right now x

MmeLindt · 29/09/2010 07:29

Any new, ladies?

RuByMaMa · 29/09/2010 07:44

Just saw this thread! How exciting!

Hope both you lovely ladies are getting on well... Lou you have my sympathies! For my DD I spent a good 20 hours with random on and off contractions but then within 3 hours they went from 20 minutes apart to 4 minutes apart and I was 9cm without realising!!!

Fingers crossed for your HB, will be checking in throughout the day! Smile
