Has anyone had an 'orgasmic' birth?

I have heard lots about it and it sounds too far-fetched for me but I would be interested to hear if anyone has expereinced anything similar. Don't be shy! Do tell! Grin

No

FattyArbuckel · 02/09/2010 20:50

It's a rumour

Dinghy · 02/09/2010 20:50

It's bollocks.

warthog · 02/09/2010 20:51

no way for me!

IMoveTheStars · 02/09/2010 20:51

I saw a website about it once.

Definitely no, but I can understand where some people are coming from though. I'm guessing a home birth in your own pool is pretty essential (rather than a midwife shining a torch between your legs and talking about dilating)

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/09/2010 20:52

How can anyone in that much pain feel pleasure? It' probably a hippy lentil weaving man who came up with the idea.

I felt pretty near orgasmic when the spinal anaesthetic kicked in. Not sure that's what they're getting at tho.Grin

seaturtle · 02/09/2010 20:57

No!

But I did stumble upon a very disturbing website about it when I was PG with stories. Oh the stories.... Surrounded by candles on all fours while in the middle of labour with her husband underneath her..... My personal experience was much less sensual.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/09/2010 21:04

I'm dissapointed. I was hoping someone would come along, 'fess up and tell us how it's done. Ah well. No harm in asking I suppose.

No, not me. Unless I misunderstood what an orgasm was like of course. Wink

fwiw the birth I had with dd2 was overwhelming and empowering in a painful type way, but orgasmic wouldn't be the first word that came to mind. I was off my face on gas and air (and would pay to get my hands on some more) but that's as good as it got I'm afraid. Grin

nameymcnamechange · 02/09/2010 21:07

Urban legend.

EdgarAllInPink · 02/09/2010 21:09

i'm sure someone has. i felt pretty damn good when i stopped giving birth....

i do know of people that had painless births (one that coughed, and out popped their PFB)

Dinghy · 02/09/2010 21:10

Maybe it's used as a metaphor.

By people who have a dreadful sex life.

CatIsSleepy · 02/09/2010 21:10

erm, no

i read an article about it once though

Treetrunkthighs · 02/09/2010 21:12

I did Blush

I was so sure that everyone could tell too - DH, midwif, students etc but I don't think they could.

bumpybecky · 02/09/2010 21:13

JTGJ I managed three homebirths in my own pool and no orgasmic births here

onepieceoflollipop · 02/09/2010 21:15

Good for you Treetrunks. :) Did you have any pain relief if you don't mind me asking. And did you make orgasm type noises?

I did scream, but I can assure you all that it wasn't due to orgasm. Grin

Treetrunkthighs · 02/09/2010 21:24

I had G&A for the early stagees but by the pushing (when it happened!) stage they'd taken it off me.

No, didn't make any noises, well none extra to the moaning/groaning that went with pushing - it was definitely a physical response rather than any kind of pleasure!

onepieceoflollipop · 02/09/2010 21:28

sorry for my rather nosey tmi line of questioning but thank you for your honest response. :)

I had gas and air throughout and as noted earlier was off my face. It was great!

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/09/2010 22:38

Really Treetrunks? Are you the urban legend then? Can I be nosey and ask at what stage did it happen? How long did it last? And were you in a lot of pain aswell?

I wouldn't say orgasmic literally, but my last DCs birth was, strangely sexual and therefore pretty orgasmic. I wasn't on pain relief right at the pushing stage and just remember flattening DH on the bed and going for it; I mean getting the baby out!

It was enjoyable though, but only afterwards that I thought about the orgasmic connections. He was my 3rd homebirth and am due any day with DC4...Smile

splashy · 03/09/2010 00:48

there are youtube videos of supposed orgasmic births. i saw chanced accross one a while ago and she certainly looked happy!

sanielle · 03/09/2010 08:51

I've told Dh if he wants to be in the room when i give birth he needs to give me an orgasmic birth! But he thinks its all a bit creepy. I think if you can enjoy yourself and then get a baby at the end of it, why wouldn't you.

His orgasm got me in to this situation, i want mine to get me out!

cardamomginger · 03/09/2010 10:01

I remember some completely nutso article I read in Elle magazine YEARS and YEARS ago that quoted a French doctor who claimed that women didn't have orgasms during sex, rather they were delayed by 9 months and happened during child birth. Other than the general bonkersness of this theory, I was intrigued to know what he thought happens if you are using contraception or just don't conceive that time. Do you still have some random orgasmic event 9 months later - say on the bus, out shopping, at dinner with the PILs?? I don't think the interviewer asked him if this theory was backed up by his own personal experience. Missed opportunity there.... Wink
