Has anyone had an 'orgasmic' birth?

I have heard lots about it and it sounds too far-fetched for me but I would be interested to hear if anyone has expereinced anything similar. Don't be shy! Do tell! Grin

The only person I think (from a conversation years ago) I might know who had one, is I suspect on the Autistic Spectrum (she has an Autistic son, and is odd in a similar way to a friend who is diagnosed).

If I had another baby I would have "lots of painrelief" on my birth plan.

I've read about it many times in books (Ina May etc..)and on the internet but never met anyone in real life who experienced this.

I have met people who had painless labours (with hypnobirthing) but no reported orgasms...

VirginOnTheRidiculous · 03/09/2010 11:24

Another MNer has too. We had a thread years ago where she admitted it.

I wanted to marry the anaesthetist. That's not the same is it?

I don't actually orgasm anyway, so it's possible that it happened. Is an orgasm excruciating pain followed by the calm acceptance that you're dying?

PrivetDancer · 03/09/2010 11:28

I didn't get that far, but at the crowning / stretching phase I did get twinges and it wasn't entirely unpleasant. I kept thinking it was about to start hurting but it never did and then dd was out.

Treetrunkthighs · 03/09/2010 12:08

It was just before crowning. All that pressure I think!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 03/09/2010 12:16

No, but I did grab my clit during crowning because I was sure it was about to be ripped off my body Blush Maybe the midwife thought I was going for an orgasmic birth...

KatyS36 · 03/09/2010 21:37

DDs brith was the most instinctive physical experience I have ever had.

It didn't include an orgasm.

atswimtwolengths · 03/09/2010 23:17

Umm another one here! I had to stop myself, but if I hadn't...

It's just the pressure, it's not actually sexual.

This thread is the first one that literaly has me laughing out loud (yes, i have the time to spell it out), thank you ladies!!

Even if it's just a myth, no harm in dreaming!

Wishing you all orgasmic births!

hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Now come on: tell me this idea of orgasmic births is a windup??!!

CarmenSanDiego · 05/09/2010 23:18

Spiritual Midwifery has some pictures of women smiling and looking ecstatic during the pushing stage. I've also seen videos of hypnobirths where the women looked very calm and described the birth as not being very painful.

But no, not personally. And I had a home, drug-free waterbirth. It hurt.

maktaitai · 05/09/2010 23:25

My sister says that my mother told her she had had one.

I haven't asked which of us she was giving birth to at the time as, in a very mature way, eeeeeeeeeeeyewwwwwwwww.

sharbie · 05/09/2010 23:25

are some people confusing this with euphoria ?

gailforce1 · 06/09/2010 18:29

As an aside my Aunt's midwife friend admitted in the 1950/60s when she worked in Northern Canada with the Innuit women that midwives would, under the pretext of examination, stimulate the labouring womans clitoris to try and produce an orgasm to give some pain relief. On the same line of thinking as orgasms help with period pain.
No other pain relief available.......!

kittyonthebeam · 07/09/2010 10:13

LOL @ sanielle: His orgasm got me in to this situation, i want mine to get me out!

I don't think you should take 'orgasmic' quite so literal. The book with the same name refers to empowering, liberating and pleasurable births which have nothing to do with climaxing but rather a wave of good sentiments.

The doctor who said this about orgasm during child birth should be made to shit a pineapple and then asked if he had an orgasm. Hmm
