If you had £30k to buy a suv - what would get?

Current favourite is Kia Sportage, mainly for comfortable seats. Also looking at Volvo XC30, VW Tiguan or Hyndi Tuscon.

Kids are young adults but we sometimes all go out together, mainly DH and me. Help?

We have. Ford said it was driver error and not covered by warrenty
Would not budge.
As i have been driving 40 years and never needed a new clutch, i am fairly sure it's not me.
Currently with ombudsman.

Good luck with that. Definitely worth chasing. I have needed a new clutch - it was a 14 year old car and I do a lot of slow, trafficky driving. 6 months and 7k miles in that’s a piss take.

RAV4 for sure

TheDogIsMine · 01/03/2026 20:39

Definitely a Honda, that thing will LAST

I'd also go for a second hand Volvo XC40 or XC60 - if you go for an XC40 make sure it's a 2021 plate or newer, as before then they weren't compatible with Apple Car Play so you need to get an addition, and even then, it's less than ideal.

We have a 2020 plate XC40 (hence the lesson above), and a 2023 plate XC60. Lovely cars.

skoda kodiaq, the build quality and reliability of skodas is excellent

Škoda are average when it comes to reliability, not even in the same league as the Japanese stuff (with the exception of Nissan who are epically shit). Volvo are well below average.

I’ve got a 20 plate XC60. Don’t think I’ll get a different car again. I have use of a VW Tiguan at work and it’s a nice car, but not a patch on my Volvo 😜

We looked at them along with CHERRY, bit unsure due to how new they are and will the value drop quickly.

Friend has just bought the cherry. Very pleased so far.

DH has the VW Tiguan. Very comfortable and roomy.

Kia Sportage is What Car magazines SUV of the year. I have one, no issues whatsoever and bang on your budget. They're huge inside with tons of room the back for 3 very tall teenagers.

Mazda, super reliable but buy a model that’s been used for test driving, you get a good discount for a lightly used 6 month old car

MrHouse13 · 02/03/2026 18:39

Thanks everyone. Decided on Tucson in the end.

Exactly what we did for our cx5 :)

JohnofWessex · 15/05/2026 19:41

Get a used Kia estate/MPV & save the money

Lincslady53 · 20/05/2026 17:33

If you can charge at home, get a Skoda Elroq. You will get a 6 month old low mileage one for your budget.

BrickBiscuit · 21/05/2026 10:36

For others still deciding, avoid anything with a wet belt engine. This is a catastrophic design flaw.

0ddsocks · 21/05/2026 10:52

Kia Sportage. I still have a 2010 one that is going strong
