I'm looking for a new car and going to test drive a few. Definitely want an SUV but unsure of what is nicest drive.

Looking at Evoque, F Pace, x5 but open to any other ideas. Probably around 1/2 years old.

Full size Range Rover.

VW Tiguan superb car - there is a reason there are so many when you start looking for them !

HowardTJMoon · 14/02/2025 19:34

When you say "nicest to drive", what is it that's most important to you? Road holding and handling? Acceleration? Interior quality? Gadgets?

eurochick · 14/02/2025 19:34

X3. Amazing car.

I'm sure the X5 is similar but it must be a right pain to park as it is huge.

Dh used to have a different car each month for work, some were more luxury brands but the Tiguan was actually better.

I love my Range Rover Sport but it's a bloody fortune to insure. I definitely wouldn't get an evoque though, they're the poor mans Range Rover. I also love how BMW's drive, any of the X-Series have pretty identical drives but different sizes, again they can be expensive to insure depending on the area you live in.

Mercedes Benz fantastic

Savemefromwetdog · 14/02/2025 19:40

I’ve had loads. Best to drive/overall is full size RR or Volvo XC90. RR has many extras which you don’t need, but are 😍. For value for money, XC90 R-Pro, no contest. 2.0 litre XC90 drives as well as the 4.4 RR

Moorfellduck · 14/02/2025 19:40

Bake in dc growing - make sure your DH can sit comfortably in the back - we found the X3 meager in that department. With 6ft plus teens it was a major factor. Tiguan was the roomist in our X60/ X3 budget.

Tooearlytothink · 14/02/2025 19:42

Absolutely love my VW Tiguan (and I say this as someone who previously worked for Audi & always assumed I'd go for a Q5)

TheFairyCaravan · 14/02/2025 19:42

My Tiguan was far nicer than any BMW I’ve owned. DS1 has always been a BMW driver, just swapped his last one for a Tiguan and wishes he did it years ago.

ParisFrance · 14/02/2025 19:44

How big is your family? XC90 is fab if you need 7 seater option.

Dearg · 14/02/2025 19:45

I loved my X3 but there just two of us. With dc the X5 would be a better buy.

My X3 never let me down. The idrive system is second to none.

I had a Discovery , but honestly the ‘limp mode’ engaging whenever the temp dipped below freezing was a total pain. RR and LandRover are not known for reliability.

But I would also look at Audi. Their tech is not as developed as BMW but the cars are good.

LePetitMaman · 14/02/2025 19:48

Evoque = horrendous
X5 = alright, nothing noteworthy
Range Rover = smashing when it works and by far the nicest to drive. Have sadly had 3, in order to finally learn my lesson. Will never have another, they break down, in major ways, roughly every 6mths and you just can't live like that.
Porsche Cayenne = quite nice, smooth drive
Q7 = excellent actually, turns on a pinhead, shame the newer shapes are so ugly
XC90 = not too bad, underpowered, lots of optional extras come as standard, would have another
Tuareg = smooth drive, bit cramped

Personally I loved my Kia sportage but couldn’t afford much else lol

AcquadiP · 14/02/2025 20:40

Honda CR-V

Namechanger385u4p · 14/02/2025 20:42

Volvo Xc60, really nice drive

Elmo230885 · 14/02/2025 20:42

I loved my sportage

jotex · 14/02/2025 20:43

My sister has a gorgeous Porsche Macan…cheaper than you might expect too. For a Porsche.

SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 14/02/2025 20:44

Any Mercedes. They drive like silk! I swapped my GLA for a VW Tiguan and really wasn’t a fan, it looked and felt like a van.

AgricolaOrBed · 14/02/2025 20:45

XC90 is fabulous, as was our old Lexus.

Audi Q7 was a disappointment - uncomfortable with a terrible user interface. Alternator went after 2 years and Audi couldn’t fix or replace and after months of waiting had to seek it back to them - terrible service.

CeliaCanth · 14/02/2025 20:56

Mercedes. Had a ML, then a GLE, and will get another GLE. I love them!

newyearnewme2025 · 14/02/2025 20:57

mazda cx-5... i love love love mine

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 14/02/2025 20:57

I’m on my second XC60. This one is a T8 hybrid.

Janedoe82 · 14/02/2025 21:00

Have had two Toureg and a Q5. Both quite similar. Q5 cheaper to run.
