I'm looking for a new car and going to test drive a few. Definitely want an SUV but unsure of what is nicest drive.

Looking at Evoque, F Pace, x5 but open to any other ideas. Probably around 1/2 years old.

I have the evoque and I love it. It’s easy to parkcause it’s not to big and it’s quick. Just don’t have anything done at Range Rover such as brakes cause they charge close to 4000 per break, a little less but not much. I have a mechanic do the work on it.

Range Rover Vogue

Full size Range Rover.

Sooo chavy

Dolly0 · 14/02/2025 21:03

Kia Sportage. Best car I've had.

X3. Amazing car.

I'm sure the X5 is similar but it must be a right pain to park as it is huge.

Absolutely LOVE my X1. Will go for an X3 next.

Mingenious · 14/02/2025 21:04

I had an F pace. It was was lovely to look at and drive, but impossible to park in a tight parking space and mechanically, fucking useless.

Devianinc · 14/02/2025 21:05

And the evoque is not the poor man’s Range Rover. I don’t have kids to cart around anymore so I don’t need the space of a full size Range Rover. Also evoque owners aren’t snobs.

My boss had a Tiguan, then an X5, now has an X3. The X3 has spent so much time in the garage getting things fixed or for recalls that she's adamant that her next car will be either be a Tiguan or the Skoda equivalent (Kamiq?)

I had a courtesy Velar. I loved that, replaced a Discovery Sport and I’d have done that permanently!

Whistledown2 · 14/02/2025 21:07

Dacia Duster..no chance of it getting nicked!

If I needed extra room I would have bought that. It’s a great drive

Porsche Cayenne. Beautiful inside, great drive and felt safe.

bravefox · 14/02/2025 21:14

Look up the new (2024+) Hyundai Santa Fe. 7 seats and dives fantastically but won't get any mentions on here as it's doesn't appeal to the Hunter wellies brigade. it's won a shedload of awards and gives you a brilliant spec for the price.

Yes I’d agree they can be if you spec them a certain way.

We’ll always have one around the place though. Perfect car for doing practical work ie moving stuff and people around and especially useful for towing on fields and unpaved tracks. But then after a hose down it’s lovely on a long motorway journey. It’s annoying big for nipping into town though into small communal car park spaces, but it’s not the car I’d use for that trip.

Another vote for sportage. Have driven a LOT of different cars via work and sportage is the one i chose over much more expensive options

MuthaBacon · 14/02/2025 21:32

Do not buy a Mercedes GLA. I bought one late last year and it's been back to the dealer three times already due to the tailgate rattling like buggery. And yet more noise from the rear camera deploying and retracting for no discernable reason when driving forward at low speeds.
Buy a BMW. I wish I bloody had.

Range rover Evoque is the best car I've ever had! Poor man's car🤣🤣🤣

Foy19 · 14/02/2025 21:39

Audi Q5

Hhoudini · 14/02/2025 21:46

I tried a Tiguan and ended up with a Q5 - the Tiguan just felt tinny and cheap in comparison.

housemaus · 14/02/2025 21:47

VW Tiguan, hands down. Gorgeous car to drive.

They are notoriously shit. Yes they look beautifully and I was very tempted but the engines are crap.
And they are a bit chavvy 🙈

Loafbeginsat60 · 14/02/2025 21:48

I love my Range Rover sport - had it nearly 3 years without a hitch. The one before that was good too, it wasn't new though but we still had no issues

We also have the new defender which is equally nice to drive, but rather tank-like for parking.

It's poor man's Range Rover. Not poor man's car. It's just an affordable way to own a land rover and there is nothing wrong with that.

It's nice and small too so I imagine you get the best of both worlds

Onynx · 14/02/2025 21:51

Kia Sorento 2.2l diesel- just bliss to drive

RedRosie · 14/02/2025 21:51

I have very much enjoyed driving both the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, and the Maserati Levante. A bit niche maybe. The F Pace looks nice.
