Is anyone else waiting on a decision for carers allowance? How long have you been waiting?

Does anyone know the wait times atm?

Im only on week 2 so I'm assuming I have a long way to go?

Good luck with your decision hun x keep us updated! I called Carers Allowance today only to be told that a letter was sent out on the 17th October to say I won’t get any backdated payments. I was extremely frustrated as I haven’t received the letter, the only letter I have received a week ago was regarding an overpayment from Feb to March this year! I was so pissed off that they are flipping quick to send letters regarding overpayments but bloody slow as anything to respond to a request made months and months ago for backdated payment! I requested she sends me another letter asap so I can ask for mandatory reconsideration before it goes to the appeals stage! The letter is on its way🤞

Oh for goodness sake. No wonder this countries in such a mess x

nadi123 · 11/11/2024 15:12

So I called CA again and I was told by the advisor that a decision has not been yet and there’s been misinformation regarding the backdated payment request, the misinformation was that apparently there was a letter sent to me regarding the backdated claim that I was not entitled to the back pay,but actually no decision has been made as of yet!!

Apparently the period I was requesting the backdating for , my earnings were high! lol and I went through my wage slips and can’t see an increase for that period, definitely going to be a mandatory reconsideration then an appeal for sure, they aren’t going to withhold money that I’m entitled to!

Thats shocking they make me so mad! Iv had no letters text nothing iv not heard anything from my email to my local mp either apart from a automated response saying a reply could take 28days from the mp, I'm going to ring carers now as have not rung this week yet il be on week 25 on Monday no payments nothing x

That's awful 😞 so they have caused unnecessary stress and anxiety then yet again 😕

Chanw87 · 12/11/2024 15:52

Just got through to carers quite quick think later in day better for ringing not that there any update to mine she said still in suspension still waiting be looked at 😳

nadi123 · 12/11/2024 16:00

Honestly it’s appalling how long it takes for a claim but their eyes are open wide when it comes to notice an overpayment! As frustrating as it may be I’m not one to give up! The money CA owe me is rightfully what I am entitled to and I will get that money! And compensation for the stress and anxiety it’s caused me. And I hope no one else gives up too. If CA carry on with this appalling service they will be forking out a lot of money to customers !

Totally agree I'm the same i know I'm owed I'm 25 weeks worth now of payments I give all the correct wage slips p45 forms in etc paid for recorded delivery on getting forms etc back all on time for the dates they demand for them to be back to them and they can't even keep in touch I'm ringing sometimes twice a week chasing it won't give up either I'm struggling financially and won't back down with this with money I'm owed oh yes soon as they think overpaid they jump on you right away, I'd like compensation to but wouldn't know what route to go with that is it like small claims people? Mad isn't it x

nadi123 · 12/11/2024 21:27

Don’t worry! When it comes to compensation I will guide you through where to get help! I haven’t got to that stage yet but hell yeah I will claim it.

I rang Monday for an update as Monday was the 26th week with out carers
The lady then said I would get all what I was owed Wednesday which I did in the bank and iv gone back to getting carers weekly
so I'm relieved I owed it all out but least that stress is over after 26 weeks of chasing them
Thanks for the support on here 🙏

Hi!
I applied online for Carers Allowance back in September 2024. It's now February 2025 and I have still not had a decision letter or a phone call. I have called the Carers allowance unit several times now. And every time they tell me there's no update, but its been escalated. The last two phone calls I've been told it's been passed to a manager. And for me to give it a bit more time. It's been 19 weeks now. How much more time do they need? It's either a yes or no isn't it!!?

Anyone else had this problem??

Mine took about 13 weeks last year. I ended up writing to my gp and whether that sped things up a bit I have no idea. 19 weeks though is a ridiculous length to wait. I feel your pain x

OwlInTheOak · 11/02/2025 15:43

8 weeks, I'm assuming they must have used hmrc details or contacted my work pay office as I didn't have to send pay details in.
