Is anyone else waiting on a decision for carers allowance? How long have you been waiting?

Does anyone know the wait times atm?

Im only on week 2 so I'm assuming I have a long way to go?

I’m on week 10 wait as closed a case for my son then opened a new claim for my daughter they said last week it has been flagged as urgent as it’s out of the 6wks time frame I called yesterday and still no up date

JadeN96 · 11/05/2024 12:57

Hello I was wondering if anyone could help or is in the same situation. So basically I have claimed ca since September. I was working and had my last payment of carers in January. I finished that job and sent my wage slip and p45 in which was uploaded to their system the 20th March. I have rang now around 10 times for an update. Explained they have all they need from my end and what's going on. April the 11th they sent it across as urgent as the lady on the phone said she couldn't understand why this is not sorted yet. Again rang end of April still no update this time sent as urgent to the line manager. Rang on the 8th May to be told they will send to the line manager yet they had done that less than 2 weeks ago with no response, was told I would get a phone call from them by the end of the day and if I don't ring the next day and explain about 72hrs have lapsed since the first message to the line manager. Again no phone call and you have most likely guessed it, I rang the next day as told to be told they will send another message to the line manager. Seriously this has been going on since January. Surely this is wrong. Someone should have responded by now. They all seem to work from home too so makes it so much harder. Just so frustrating.

I've been waiting over 8 weeks and I still haven't heard anything from them..

Jess19944 · 30/07/2024 21:57

Hi, I applied for carers allowance 12th June 2024 but still heard nothing 7 weeks tomorrow. Has anybody else heard anything from around this time please? X

Anazir · 31/07/2024 14:56

i have applied for carers allowance since 12th march 2024 and then it got to the 9th week mark I didn’t receive nothing so I called them and they said they had a problem on their system and then told me to reply again and so I reapplied on the 14th may and now since then it’s been 11 weeks since I have waiting no update and when I phone they just fill this form in and apparently this should go to the caseworkers who make the decision. I had to provide my phone number and just been told wait for a call from the caseworkers apparently.

I am not getting straight answers when I call up for an update and also I have sent evidence about the letter the person who I’m caring received still no speed up on the process of my claim. Even though i mentioned that it needs to be backdated from the 12th march as that’s the original date I applied firstly, I don’t understand what’s happening and why it is taking soo long and no action taking seriously

Jasm54 · 01/08/2024 15:46

Now 24 weeks!
Applied for carers allowance on 2nd Feb, we called to follow up in June after 18 weeks, was told it would be marked a Priority. Called again yesterday (now 24 weeks!) told it is marked 'Priority' but no update, couldn't even tell if it has been assigned. Should be straightforward claim, I get attendance allowance my son (carer) sold his house and moved in to look after me full time, does not work or get any other benefits.
No idea what is going on.

4beautifulkiddies · 20/08/2024 11:46

Any advice much appreciated, I gave up work in may but didn't receive my p45 until July so only applied for carers 7 weeks ago. I've since been offered a job that fits around my disabled son with childcare. I don't start my job till next week and start receiving wages from 28th September. Do I need to tell carers now I'm going back to work or wait.

Jess19944 · 22/08/2024 08:16

@XxDeeDeexX have you received a decision yet hun? X

Jasm54 · 22/08/2024 11:40

26 weeks, finally approved! Simple claim, no work, so just seems to be luck of the draw and delays in the system.

Hi does getting carers allowance affect council tax support. Will I still get the discount. I live alone and get the single person discount. Can anyone help please.

It won't affect your single person discount but carers allowance is a taxable benefit so will be classed as income. You will need to let them know when you start claiming it.

Hi guys

I’m still waiting for my claim dated 31st July. When I phone they say it’s taking about 9 weeks. So over that atm. They have sent an e mail to the ‘the back office’ they say to chase it but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. It’s ridiculous amount of time to wait and when you call for an update they can’t tell you anything. Useless…..

nadi123 · 10/10/2024 19:20

I’ve applied for Carers Allowance on the 1st of July… called many times so in mid August was told there’s a backlog and it’s a waiting time, called again 2 days again and was now told it’s a decision maker but can’t say how long from now!

I applied on the 22nd August and have just received a back payment in my account today, so 7 weeks. Not had a letter yet though.

It’s so rubbish. Glad to hear I’m not the only one waiting….I reduced my hours at work so I could help look after my mum, so am massively down in money, as I know we all are who are waiting…. hope you hear soon x

That’s brilliant. Really pleased for you. Not sure how their system works! Lol x

It seems like pot luck! Hope you hear soon.

Bex268 · 15/10/2024 07:14

I rang up last week and was told nine weeks. It’s disgusting. I’m so angry. I’m down in wages dramatically and feel I can’t do extra work as I’ll go over £151 a week and then im worried that I’ll be in trouble for that. Fed up.

Savblanc1 · 15/10/2024 10:20

I feel your pain. I’m now 11 weeks and still waiting… it’s really not on at all

Bex268 · 15/10/2024 11:43

Is there any way at all to escalate it? I feel like complaining. They put all these loopholes in about claiming CA but they fail to provide adequate and safe wraparound care for our children with disabilities so everything feels impossible.

Hey, I actually complained to my local Mp! And he’s emailed the department for Carers Allowance! Think you should do that too!

nadi123 · 15/10/2024 16:03

I think anyone who’s waited so long for a response from Carers Allowance should email there local Mp, good luck everyone
