Bell tent - well, I've got one extra from my Holland expedition

MisSalLaneous · 04/05/2010 10:54

As some of you might know, we went to Holland last weekend to buy my bell tent (a 4m with the zip-off groundsheet).

I got one extra (the 4m with separate groundsheet) to help share some of the travel costs, so if anyone's interested, just shout.

It's this Obelink one, the same as sold by Belltent UK.

You can have it at cost €195 plus £50 for diesel/tunnel costs, so should save you £70 - £80. (I'm obviously not making a profit, but as we were going there anyway, it would feel wrong to. )

CAT me if you're interested!

Thanks MisSalLaneous, that slideshow was perfect. They are very lovely tents but I'm wincing at the weight!

I'm thinking next year I'll get one and this year stick to buying a lighter one. There would only ever be 2 of us and 1 child. I think I'd have to have an inner or the tent would be jumble sale of bits and bobs.

What's the deal with the different ground sheets - the idea of tucking it under just doesn't sound water safe to me - am I misguided. It's funny how hard it is to find info out about these tent. Also a total joke RE how much they are sold for here v Holland.

Was it worth the trip to Holland?!

MisSalLaneous · 05/05/2010 22:12

Well, from what I've read, they are indeed watertight. Definitely from the top, and from reviews withstood wind etc better than other tents. I'll do a quick search re watertightness on loose groundsheet - I know when I looked (this was the one I originally wanted), the reviews were fine on it. Dh preferred the zip one when we saw them in real life.

Trip to Holland - yep, it was great! Pretty exhausting (we drove 1,400km in 2 days!), but good and very interesting. Cost more than just ordering obv, as hotel costs etc, but it was a great trip and we like doing this kind of thing anyway (did 2000km in India in Feb).

Haha, was just trying to search for you, and found the thread where first I got thoroughly convinced, and then I used it to convince dh! Here

MisSal- where was/what was the name of the shop you went to?

am (hopefully) off to Holland soon if I can get the dcs passports sorted. Was desperate for a bell tent last summer but when I showed them to dp online he (uncharacteristically) put his foot down over the price...if I can convince him we're getting a bargain, I'm sorted!

MisSalLaneous · 05/05/2010 22:32

Ooh, SpringHeeledJack, if you have time, you have to go there, it's a fantastic store - floors and floors of camping stuff! We didn't have much time, I'd love to go back again for longer one day. I also really loved being able to see the tents pitched, it's so hard to imagine if you haven't seen one from inside.

This is their address:

oh great that's perfect!

we were thinking of going over that way this time, near the German border (normally go over nearer to Amsterdam and we thought we'd have a change)

thanks ever so

MisSalLaneous · 05/05/2010 23:06

My pleasure! Have a look at these when you're there - I thought they're brilliant!

Dueling - I loled a bit at your 'it might get muddy at Glastonbury' I love a bit of optimism.

Am interested to know how to clean them too though - will have a look at the instructions when I get home and post it up...

We are still waiting for a nice weekend to put ours up - please let Saturday be dry.

MisSalLaneous · 06/05/2010 19:20

SamanthaF, if possible, can you please let me know as soon as possible re tent, as dh getting ever so grumpy re the lack of boot space in the car... . Thanks!

OP posts:
SamanthaFox · 06/05/2010 19:47

Oh gosh I am so sorry! I didn't see this, before I emailed.

Sorry. And thankyou.

MisSalLaneous · 06/05/2010 19:52

Hi, no problem - I thought it was very funny, we must have posted/emailed at exactly the same time! Great minds and all that.

Ok, Lotkins & Navy - if either of you two wants it, please let me know as soon as possible. Dh grumpy as I won't bring it inside (we're too full as it is and the box is huge), which means we have no boot space in the car!

I'd love to hang around a bit with it, but for marital bliss I've agreed that if no takers by this weekend, it can go on ebay.

Btw, for those of you looking for a 5m, I've just seen this one on ebay.

Hi,

Can I just ask have you sold the bell tent yet ? I am just reading up on them not 100 per cent sure, reading all the links. I know you were thinking about e-baying it this weekend.

shannie · 07/05/2010 16:00

Oh and I don't post that much but have been here for ages. We have a Montana 6 but looking for something smaller / cooler for spain this year. Thanks

MisSalLaneous · 07/05/2010 22:03

Hey shannie. I've CAT'ed you. If you definitely want it, please let me know tonight. Tomorrow no listing fees on ebay, so dh putting it on tomorrow.

If not sure or not too fussed about new, I see there's a second hand 4m one now on too. It mentions mould, so not sure if you'd want to risk it, but I suspect it might go cheaper.

shannie · 07/05/2010 23:40

Had a chat with DH and he's just not ready to commit to it. Thanks so much for getting back to me. Good luck with e-bay

MisSalLaneous · 07/05/2010 23:55

Thanks.

Quick update - tent has just been sold.

Hope you all join the belltent brigade pretty soon! And someone has to get one of those Touaregs, they're so beautiful...

FiveOrangePips · 08/05/2010 00:39

Just saw this! Can't believe I missed it - though I have been slightly obsessed with the election.

Well done on getting one MisSal - looking forward to hearing about your first trip!

MisSalLaneous · 08/05/2010 12:51

Thanks FiveOrangePips! I cannot wait myself!

Sorry you missed the tent, but on the upside, at least the guy who bought it seemed really lovely, so it went to a happy home.

I can't make up my mind whether to pitch the top half in the garden / park this afternoon. We've got friends over, and I had this master plan to picnic outside, but in this weather it would probably not go down well with everyone else.

You should have been in the NE of Scotland, it was perfect here all day, surprisingly, so gorgeous, bell tent would have been great!
