Slubber - Dutch Pyramid tents (all hypothetical, of course!)

First off, I suspect I will actually get a bell tent, as I love it and dh will humour me this far.

A pyramid appears to be one step too far for him, and he just laughs at me every time I show him that Guadeloupe which I love. (And I need him to help pay, so ignoring irrelevant input not really of much help here )

I'll keep my Cabanon / De Waard (a girl can dream) "but you've got incredibly expensive unnecessary electronics"-card for another couple of years. As our family grows - it's just us and ds at the moment - it might be more practical anyway.

But, but, but... We might be driving to Holland this weekend after all, and will be able to see tents in person. Soooo, I'll drag show him Pyramids too.

My question (yes, sorry for the long waffle) - What do you think of these? Obviously not a forever and ever quality, but look and layout?

Will try, lunavix! It will depend on space, but if possible, I will def try! Still wondering whether to camp there on Sat night (in which case we'll be taking our Orchy and stuff with) or do hotel. That shop looks like camping heaven!

righto, just looked at the links.

well for a start they are poly cotton which is better than plastic but if you are hooked on the whole canvas vibe then it's a bit . Oh and you have to be careful with polycottons too...not all polycottons are the same. You need to go in and have a good feel, if it feels like canvas (the Outwell polycottons feel like this) then it's a GOOD thing. If is feels all shiny and plasticy and a bit cheap (the inide of my polycotton utility feels like this) then steer clear.

I don't live in my utility so that's OK

You are going to all this trouble (weight/size/expense) of getting canvas because it breeeeeeeeeeeeeeathes, so make sure you are buying a product that does just that.

Second thing, the porches on those tents are quite frankly wank and you can't (so far as I can see) buy additional side panels or an add on porch. These imo are important for keeping shoes/coats out of the tent and for seating feral, filthy and food spilling children.

They're still better than a bell tent though

Hmm, ok, decision made, I don't want them. I'll love and treasure my lovely bell tent until we outgrow eachother, and will drive you to distraction with my stories of lovely weekends and fairy lights and bunting and everything.

If/when I go for a pyramid type then one day, I'll go for a proper one - good quality, bigger etc.

I'm so ridiculously excited. I'm going to the Ikea of camping (size wise, mind you). Ha, you can even take your dog. Not that I have a dog, mind you...

I saw your post on UKCS Sal, asking some sensible questions :D (I don't go for the sensible ones! I got rather excited by the firepit instead and am asking a friend going to Asda on monday to hunt for one! :D)

re firepit! I didn't know Asda sold them? Mind you, I don't need one, as I've decided to only go to places that allow fires, and so far they've always (including the ones booked for later in the year, we haven't been to many yet) had a fire place already.

Lunavix, I'm so sorry, but I couldn't get your tent, they didn't have any of the plain 5m ones in stock.

My new thread here - I got hold of a 4m plain one, but suspect it won't help you much. Thought I'd give you first dibs anyway though, just in case I'm wrong.

I got a 4m one with zip-off groundsheet in the end. They are fabulous! Also got a tarp, and can't wait to try it out in t he garden tomorrow!

Ds ran in and out of every single tent on that floor - he had a fabulous time!!! Wish we had that shop in England! Might take him to Decathlon just for fun, haha.

Thanks Slubber. Yes. You were right - the quality wasn't that great. I actually prefer our Orchy to some of them. I do kind of like the shape of most, but I can see what you meant when you kept mentioning quality. For me, it would need to be better quality - a "forever" tent - when I buy one. I think it's a really good, practical shape though, and lovely and airy.

What did surprise me majorly though, is that I fell in love with one of these. They look even better in real life, I was torn between this and a bell. It was amazing - light, practical (not for storing, but in a "bell tent" kind of way) etc. Was a close call between this and my bell. Dh wasn't keen, for some reason. I'd have thought he'd prefer corners, but hey, men, who understands them anyway?!

We didn't have much time - got there 30 mins before they closed, and then decided to buy what we wanted, and sleep somewhere on the way back home again, so couldn't go again the next morning. It was brilliant being able to compare all these tents in real life - the floors that were covered with tents were huge. Any possible shape of tent you could thing of, including trailer tents, which nearly gave dh a heart attack. I suspect he feared I'd go for one of those one of these days... :

oh wow. That's a gorgeous tent you have linked to. SO useful having front and back doors for a through breeze if the weather gets very hot [ha bloody ha in the uk]. I've never seen one that looks l ike that before.
