I miss camping...

We only started camping this year. We love traveling so it seemed like a good plan with a small DD and no cash to spend on the type of exotic foreign holidays we used to have. We loved it! And so did DD. But what do campers do in the winter when you can't go camping and you can't afford weekends in hotels or fancy foreign trips?

erk

'Twill me for me plus 2 small ish boys

DH will nOT be coming with us, he is Anti camper but has conceded that he will have to accompany me to the campsites, erect the monster and bugger orf home hahhahaha

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 12:45

Bald that is indeed a monster tent. It's bigger than my house lol. You could sub-let one of the rooms to a small African nation.

From the reviews, it looks like money well spent.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/10/2009 12:46

cool

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 12:46

You and two small boys only?!

Make sure you have a designated point to meet up if you all get seperated or one of the DS gets lost.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/10/2009 12:48

yy they will love love love having to synchronise watches before bedtime

Slubberdegullion · 06/10/2009 12:49

So will the 3 of you be in one of the bedrooms and use the other for stuff storage? Or wil you shove the dss down one end and you can luxuriate and roll around in your giant bedroom all by yourself?

Does look like a good find baldy, although we (omdb and me) and possibly not the best mn campers to show it off to, what with omdb being the queen of camping with hardly anything at all and me being a new (and ardent) minimalism convert.

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 12:51

yy

DS and I are actually downgrading in size, currently we have a 3-berth tent and we are looking for a smaller 2-berth.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/10/2009 12:52

Am anticipating that we will all squash onto the double airbed and get queasy than I will get grumpy and hoof em out at some point.

I CANT WAIT til next February half term summer

mwff · 06/10/2009 12:57

i miss it too. i've been a miserable old caaaah since the glow from our last trip rubbed off

if anyone fancies some fantasy tent shopping we need (another!) new one - something uber lightweight we can take on plane/train for a week in france next august. 2 adults, 2 kids, pref in sale and a total bargain, thanks

after our festie trip if anyone's seen a good deal on a folding/all terrain trolley recently that'd be good too.

Slubberdegullion · 06/10/2009 12:58

so are you going to be joining us on the mn camping topic then next year?

We are all SO lovely and nice and we have such jolly japes talking about all the stuff we need to buy and omdb wafts in and rolls her eyes at us and is very stern.

mwff · 06/10/2009 12:58

oh sorry namechange tis millenniumfalcon

mwff · 06/10/2009 13:01

is that aztec really 37kg?

Slubberdegullion · 06/10/2009 13:03

hello mf. I'd love to look for you but if I don't sort of these reciepts here Girl Guiding UK is going to get very cross with me and I will get another huffy phonecall from a very posh ladyee.

must turn off computer and stop looking at nice lovely tents.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/10/2009 13:04

Gawd I've been lurking here all blimmin summer

Can't wait to be eyerolled by ombd

mwff · 06/10/2009 13:08

lol@huffy phonecalls. i shouldn't be here either - managed one day of self-imposed posting exile, but camping always pulls me back in.

"just when i thought i was out..."

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 13:13

mwff no that is a mistake. It is 3.2kg

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 13:15

Bald I will eyeroll you if you mention:

washing up bowls

wind-breaks (especially fancy ones)

bunitng

tent carpet

seperate tables with cupboards etc for your kitchen area

camping beds complete with pillows and duvets and fairy lights all around

never leaving the actual campsite

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/10/2009 13:18

Bunting
Duvets
Fairy lights
Washing up bowls
A clicky-clacky pan stand/cooker stand that you click together and it traps one's fingers grieviously

arf at huffy phone calls slubbers

3rdnparty · 06/10/2009 13:18

Need a new tent and so far found nothing in the sales and now found some 2010 so a whole winter of tent drooling to keep me going

www.outdoorworlddirect.co.uk/acatalog/vango_tents.html

wondering if bit mad to book blackberry wood for next september and aghast that preferred summer spot already full!

MollieO · 06/10/2009 13:20

Don't know what bunitng is but I will mention bunting as much as I like and fairy lights and washing up bowls (what's wrong with washing up bowls?). So there.

Totally with you on wind breaks and not sure about tent carpet.

I did do one weekend last year when we didn't leave the campsite but I blame other MNetters for that!

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 13:20

mwff how about the vango beta 450?

3rdnparty · 06/10/2009 13:22

oooh
have 2 washing up bowls, and love my carpet, though make do with picnic rug for short trips... am not allowed bunting/fairy lights/bell tent etc etc as not practical!

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 13:25

Mollie and bald there really is no hope for you

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/10/2009 13:26

hurrah

right, off to google collapsible pan sets

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 13:31

actually mmwf, I really think you should get this tent. Amazon are selling it for £77 at the moment.
