We only started camping this year. We love traveling so it seemed like a good plan with a small DD and no cash to spend on the type of exotic foreign holidays we used to have. We loved it! And so did DD. But what do campers do in the winter when you can't go camping and you can't afford weekends in hotels or fancy foreign trips?

ooh, hello everyone, I think I've found my spiritual home on MN! Am pining very badly for life under canvas, managed four different camps over the summer, it was the best school holidays we ever had. I spend all my time looking at tent porn for next season as we currently have to use two tents due to DS1's very long legs getting in everyones way.

Bunitng? And how do you power fairy lights? Whats wrong with a wind break? Or a washing up bowl for that matter? People I need educating.

mwff · 06/10/2009 13:42

ooh nice one omdb i heart vangos.

MollieO · 06/10/2009 13:43

omdb my winter task is to make my own bunting for next year's trips .

mwff · 06/10/2009 13:43

how heavy is 13kg? sounds a lot.

mwff · 06/10/2009 13:45

solar fairy lights lostinwales (guilty!). i bet even omdb wouldn't object to washing up bowl on showerless sites.

MollieO · 06/10/2009 13:46

solar powered fairy lights.

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 13:47

I don't object to waashing up bowls if someone else brings them!

I just can't physically take one with me when we use public transport to get to the campsites, so we just use a durable carrier bag instead.

13kg is actually not very light is it mf? I like vangos. Relaible.

MollieO · 06/10/2009 14:05

omdb you need one of these

overmydeadbody · 06/10/2009 14:18

AitchTwoToTangOh · 06/10/2009 17:30

so you know i'm going to need help finding the Perfect Tent in the sales, don't you? i'm sure someone told me to wait off til the christmas sales though...

MollieO · 06/10/2009 19:12

I also have this and it is fab.

Ivykaty44 · 06/10/2009 19:20

we leave the tent at home and go to a YHA - some will take children under three.

You get kitchen and equipment so can make all your own food

AitchTwoToTangOh · 06/10/2009 21:36

what's the firebowl like, mollie? i can't see a pic. plus what's the great advantage if you just have to lug briquettes about with you anyway?

Ripeberry · 06/10/2009 21:44

Why not try a Yurt? There is a company that hires them out on their land in Mid Wales and we are going there ourselves over the Halloween weekend.
www.strawberryskys.co.uk Still camping...but in luxury

Goober · 06/10/2009 21:50

I am working at our local campsite. There are 2 teepees there that weren't there yesterday. They set up in the rain and it has been raining ever since.
Are these people mad??

speaking of small and light i need a Stern Talking To, have been browsing for plane/trainable tents and so far come up with this which would be the thick end of £500 if i could even get one in this country [rolleyes]

(at least i discounted the cotton version on grounds of weight, there's hope for me yet...)

i can't get over the france/august=hot thing and since cotton isn't going to happen size/weightwise what appealed to me about the green one (apart from the colour ) is that it has doors either side of the sleeping pod which would be cool, no?

aaanyway, any more suggestions more than happy to see them...

3rdnparty · 07/10/2009 18:20

mwff- not going to help as have seen a couple of Eureka tents up close and they are wonderful -my dream tents only place found that had any in the UK was Taunton Leisure - would go for the TC if doing france as so so lovely [wistful emoticon] weight not much different still less than ryanair luggage allowance....they do have an outlet section on their website - which I oogle at occasionally..

mwff · 07/10/2009 18:48

oh lawd you're not helping are you party am queen of overpriced tents already, let alone utterly somewhat impractical cotton ones (btw the cotton is sold out at taunton so thankfully not an option)
