Neither have I. But I have peed on my pyjama leg, whilst getting lost on the way to the loo after way too much wine and being rather inaccuarate in a hedge!

Blu · 30/06/2009 15:23

Do you wee on the grass behind your tent, then, chevre?

chevre · 30/06/2009 15:24

yes we have all done that!

QuintessentialShadow · 30/06/2009 15:24

I am a wild camper.

I pee freely where the wind blows in my face and the wildflowers scratch my erm, bottom.

Surfermum · 30/06/2009 15:26

But what if it's raining.

Or you are too drunk to get to the toilet block safely.

Or it's the middle of the night and it's raining.

Or you just can't be arsed to walk that far?

chevre · 30/06/2009 15:27

if it is raining i wear a coat
i am never that drunk
i get up and go to the loo block
i am not lazy!

OP posts:
Surfermum · 30/06/2009 15:32

I'm lazy when I'm camping. It's the whole point isn't it?

And I don't see any point in going out in the wet, and coming back with a dripping cagoul and muddy boots if I don't have to.

And if I got myself dressed, found a torch, traipsed across a field, peed, by the time I got back and into bed I'd be well awake and find it hard to get warm and off to sleep again. Better for me to stumble into the next door pod and wee in a bucket (although we'v upgraded now to a camping toilet.

i would just feel mingin with a bucket of pee in a tent

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 30/06/2009 15:35

I bought the whole bucket with lid and nappy pads combo [lives according to the 7 Ps] and have never needed it. We all have horse bladders chez degullion. It is now our bin.

chevre · 30/06/2009 15:36

i am sureit is better for your pelvic floor not to have a bucket!

OP posts:
Surfermum · 30/06/2009 15:39

You do realise you aren't going the get a contentious thread in the camping section don't you .

Slubberdegullion · 30/06/2009 15:39

Oh yes. I also quite like the pre-bed late night dark loo trips or the alternative 4.30am up with the birds morning mist expeditions to the loos.

They feel ever so slightly daring and rugged.

chevre · 30/06/2009 15:41

i don't want contention i want HYGIENE!

OP posts:
WhereTheWildThingsWere · 30/06/2009 16:47

I have never peed in a bucket even when camping whilst pregnant, I have a shy bladder. I have only ever peed in front of dp whilst in labour, and then only because the midwife insisted it was either him or her.

However I have no problem with bucket peeing, ds does it, dp does it it's only wee.

Surely if you give it a good swill in the morning with some kind of cleaning product, it is hygenic non?

Surfermum · 30/06/2009 16:48

Lol .

Anyway I have great difficulty peeing on the ground. I did it the other weekend when I couldn't be arsed to walk to the toilet block and we were in our campervan.

Is there a technique? I squatted but was worried about weeing onto my jeans. It was dark, I'd had too much Pimms and port, I couldn't get the angle of the squat right. I wasn't sure if it was going to run into my flip flops, then from the darkness dh started singing "Rivers of Babylon". It's so much easier when you have something to sit on.

Pixel · 30/06/2009 17:01

I've never done it in a bucket either, I quite enjoy the solitary walk to the loo block. Except on one occasion when it was pitch black and I got completely lost on the way back, but couldn't call out as the entire campsite was asleep .

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 30/06/2009 17:08

Am particulally liking the 'or worse' btw.

What would you do with a poo in a tent in a bucket, you couldn't have it inside, not in the morning in a rapidly sun-warming tent full of yesterdays sleeping flies.

But then if you left it outside someone might see.

So you would have to take it straight to the loo, in which case you may as well do it there in the first place.

Above does not apply if you have a toilet tent obv.

debbiewebweb · 30/06/2009 17:09

I'll tell you what, a bucket is far more hygenic than have the campsite toilets I've seen !!!

Putty · 30/06/2009 17:24

Hmm. I am currently putting together a list of "Must gets" for our fortcoming camping weekend, and saw somewhere that a "bucket for weeing" was necessary, and it did make me reconsider the entire outing. I think I will stick to the grassy bottom option.

I presume even experienced campers use a toilet for their poos, unless they are camping in the middle of nowhere.

(Typical. My first proper post, and poo is already in there.)

Pixel · 30/06/2009 17:26

I'm thinking they mean the buckets with lids, I have one as a compost bin and it doesn't smell all the time the lid is on.

I suppose wee would be ok as you could tip it in the hedge when no-one was looking (and I wouldn't want to do anything 'worse' in a bucket anyway!), but surely weeing in a bucket makes a noise? Just think how loud the tent zip sounds in the middle of the night. Apart from the entire site hearing me I wouldn't want to risk waking up the dcs.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 30/06/2009 17:28

V.v.v.v.v.v.v. bad form to tip wee into a hedge on a campsite, just think of the smell if everyone did it, fine if you are in the wilds, but on a site it needs to go in a loo, or a designated 'waste' bit thing (gets all technical).

Pixel · 30/06/2009 17:31

I'm sure you are right, I've never done it as I've never gone in a bucket .

However, I have to wonder why, with all this talk of night-time bucket filling I've never seen anyone emptying them. They must be tipping it somewhere!

Pixel · 30/06/2009 17:36

And for the record, I always emptied dc's potties in the designated area, in case anyone is wondering .
