Last time I took a potty and pretended it was DSs wee in the morning - he wore pullups.

jenwyn · 30/07/2009 16:54

I hate camping mainly because of this problem. I will not wee in a bucket -nor will I traipse to the loo block in the dark.
Actually I have wee'd in a bucket but that was up a mountain in Wales on an outward bound type of experience and I had no say in the matter.
I a interested in the Shewee though -just in case I get a longing to go camping. Has anyone any personal experience?

lisad123 · 30/07/2009 17:06

would i not be classed as a "proper" camper if i brought one of these?? toilet

Im tempted for dd1 tbh

bronze · 30/07/2009 17:09

I've peed (and pooed) in wistmans wood. A scared druids grove didn't realise it was wistmans til the morning.

I've not really done campsite camping so toileting while camping for me tends to be dig a small hole, fill said hole using your waste, fill said hole with soil.

RTKangaMummy · 30/07/2009 17:14

We have just got back from 2 weeks camping and the KAMPA KHARZI is soooooooo deffo brill

We had it in a toilet tent but then that blew over and dented the car so we put it in the tent

I used it but DH and DS went to the toilets

Put 2 bin liner bags in it and some cat litter.

After wees then tie up the bags and put inside another bag and take to the bins just like for nappies

lisad123 · 30/07/2009 17:17

Just planning it for nights and no turds allowed

RTKangaMummy · 30/07/2009 17:23

IMHO they are really deffo brill and very easy to clean afterwards

just spray seat etc with anti bac

rather than the chemical ones with tubes that need cleaning out etc.

ReallyReally · 30/07/2009 18:05

we got a proper camping toilet but then we are not proper campers

dd disabled and carrying her to loo in night not an option

also we are booked on v v small basic sites

ReallyReally · 30/07/2009 18:12

looked at kampa khazi but bizarrely thing with whole flush option was actually smaller

bronze · 30/07/2009 18:33

You lot need that Kathleen Meyer book - how to shit in the woods

Chevre · 30/07/2009 19:20

hercules1 · 30/07/2009 19:26

I've just bought a bucket and about to get the bin bags and cat litter.

Chevre · 30/07/2009 19:29

you are all mingers

Goober · 30/07/2009 19:36

Do you wipe?

Spidermama · 30/07/2009 19:45

I only pee in a bucket, well jug actually, in the tent if I don't have the cover of darkness to shield my modesty.

If it's dark I just squat down outside the tent at the non cooking side. Or pretty much anywhere really.

It all soaks into the grass.

Chevre you are too coy to be a camper. I sense you are angry with us more relaxed wee-ers because you can't quite get to that level of chilled-ness. Do I have a point?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 30/07/2009 19:50

I got spotted once weeing behind the tent. It was just starting to get light.

If it's dark, I still wouldn't hesitate though.

Am sceptical about lenor bottles though. Is there not a, erm, direction issue?

fluffles · 30/07/2009 19:58

i never have to wee in the night - i go before bed and first thing and that's enough (But then i don't wee in the night at home anyway)

DP wees once most camping nights.

i couldn't sleep with a bucket of wee in the porch [boak]

Spidermama · 30/07/2009 19:59

There are plenty of women weeing fairly shamelessly at the festivals I go to. Not so much in a drunken out of control way, just in a hippyish yeah-man-we-all-urinate sort of a way I guess.

Nonetheless I take care not to be spotted during daylight hours.

Spidermama · 30/07/2009 20:00

I wouldn't leave a bucket of wee in the porch either. I always chuck it out the tent, arms length, at the back of the tent.

Chevre · 30/07/2009 20:05

no i have no issue with weeing outside it is just the bucket thing that i find repulsive.

fluffles · 30/07/2009 20:11

did anybody see james cracknell drinking from his pee bottle by mistake in 'on thin ice'?

bronze · 30/07/2009 20:38

yes
though at that point I kind of felt it served him right

MumHadEnough · 30/07/2009 21:30

We do the bucket thing, lined with a bin liner and cat litter. Just lift out the liner in the morning, the cat litter soaks up all the wee and there's never anything leaked into the bucket. 'tis fab for night time wees only after several glasses of wine.

dawntigga · 30/07/2009 21:31

loo's EVERY time, my parents use to do the bucket thing and it still fills me with horror.
