Footprints and carpets..... necessary or just nice?

Very small budget for my tent expenses (well, £200 for the tent - not much for extras!)

Do I NEED a footprint and / or carpet? (for the Outwell carolina 3)

No you wouldn't need the eglu, through the day they could roam free and enjoy the camping ambience and at night they could roost in this.

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2009 22:18

rofl

yes, let us not forget that even if you take your chickens they should be roosting in a matchy collapsible-camping-clart tent tidy.

They would fit in there a treat though.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 17/06/2009 22:22

Slubber from where do you hail, if you don't mind me asking, the only other person I have ever heard say clart was my ex's Mum who was from Sheffield.

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2009 22:32

I am a Cestrian. I have picked up the term clart from ukcs though. I like it hugely and find it mildly onomatopoeic.

zanz1bar · 17/06/2009 22:35

Anyway back to OP,
Another vote for eco mat, found it warmer to walk on than groundsheet and when Dc spilled drinks it just soaks away.
But have been amazingly lucky with weather, so yet to try out in a downpour.

I still think my camping cocktail shaker tops a fruit bowl.
not stirred

zanz1bar · 17/06/2009 22:39

meant shaken not stirred, olive anyone?

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 17/06/2009 22:40

Cestrian? [dim emoticon]

ExMil used to use it to describe food that was a bit dry and stuck to the inside of your mouth, as in 'Ooooh that peanut butter sandwich is a bit clarty.

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2009 22:45

ooh zanz "In a shade of sultry, smoky peat brown" NICE

Molly's blue fluffy beach umbrella is still winning imo.

Wildy, from Chester, dur. No, I only use clart in a camping crap fashion, not a peanut buttery claggy vibe.

specialmagiclady · 17/06/2009 23:24

CLarty means dirty where I come from (NE Scotland). On which note - can I just say, rather later than expected - CLITHEROE!

Peachy · 18/06/2009 08:28

Ah you see we didnt need an eglu- last site we visited had its own chickens to collect eggs from PMSL.

We do have delta pegs, but the next palce we're at (Sandy Balls) is formly rock pegs only IME. We have entire collections of pegs for different p[laces.

Ah you may laugh at our Cobb but we camp 4 weeks a year, tis essential i'm tellin ya!

Alambil · 18/06/2009 10:19

nice to see my thread has been taken over with bunting!!!

My tent purchasing is on hold now anyway - massive cock-up with the farkin benefits office and I'm left penniless (well, not quite, but £200 on a tent is 2 weeks' worth of income and I can't spare it now )

OP posts:
Peachy · 18/06/2009 10:20

Oh LF- for you

Will it get sorted or is it of the overpaid variety?

Alambil · 18/06/2009 10:25

it's of the "we've closed your case for a reason only we can justify and makes no sense to anyone, oh - and we don't care" variety

OP posts:
Peachy · 18/06/2009 10:27

Huh? So is that you can't get any more money then?

CAB?

Alambil · 18/06/2009 10:30

yes, I can't get any more money - it's because I didn't go to a meeting.... a meeting that I was never told about!!!

I am going to ring the bloke tomorrow and kick off major style - he's away today so can't vent my spleen at him

I'll still go on holiday... just hope my old tent is in an ok condition

If you weren't told about it, put in a formal grievnce today, ready for when you speak to the man next. Send itr recorded or deliver by hand and ask for a reeceipt.

Indicate you intention to consult a solicitor (one of those fiorst half hour free sessions) or involve soemone like CAB, ombudsman if there is one (not sure who that would be, get all ours via TCs).

Try and make sure they have your fullcase BEFORE you are there talking to themt hough, give them time to formulate a response.

Alambil · 18/06/2009 10:36

Nah - all he has to do is email the office and tell them to reinstate... I'm going to tell him that tomorrow (I wasn't meant to find that out but the silly person on the phone let slip!)

Peachy · 18/06/2009 10:40

Ah fair enough LOL

If he's won't play ball, try your MP. When council messe3d up ds3's statement application AM worked wonders.

And frankly they're on the creep ATM LOL

Alambil · 18/06/2009 11:35

Yes, I had thought of that!

specialmagiclady · 18/06/2009 17:54

SOrry to hijack, but given my HALL is full, I just can't envisage how all this stuff is supposed to fit in the car!

And I haven't even got clothes sorted yet... Ulp.

bigTillyMint · 18/06/2009 18:35

Is EVERYONE going camping this weekend?

Our car is full with our new tent, extra groundsheet and carpet, and there's still a mountain of stuff in the lounge but DH is refusing to put the roofbox on because it's my fault for buying such alot of "crap"

Where are you all going?

specialmagiclady · 18/06/2009 19:03

www.littlelakeland.co.uk/ no idea if it's nice, but it's very near a wedding we're off to on Saturday. Making a trip of it - our first, and we're doing it alone.
