So in a bell tent do you all just sort of sleep anywhere?
they look quite cool though

pack of 2 LED lanterns (DS1 already smitten)
2 x self-inflating mattresses
folding table
folding cupboard thing
some binoculars (for ds1 mainly!)

some chocolate spread as ds1 was insistent
(ds1 had a Good Shopping Trip, lol)
some cocoa powder as i've needed it for 2 baking things recently
oh, you don't want to know about the non-camping stuff right?!

tempted to go back for windbreaks, stove & kitchen stand....

Dh is already like this:

MumHadEnough · 11/06/2009 19:54

Got myself a windbreak, electric coolbox and a camping kitchen.

Just for those who might be interested on the aldi website it says it comes with a 12v plug, but it also comes with a 240v 3 pin plug. I was well pleased

MumHadEnough · 11/06/2009 19:55

Sorry, thats the coolbox btw! lol

gibba8 · 11/06/2009 20:07

I got 4 dark green tartan rugs and the 2 LED lights. They had loads of folding shovels in our Aldi.
Going back for the folding cupboard and kitchen stand-hope they have some left-they were selling quickly.

spokette · 11/06/2009 20:11

I had to buy the crocs in a size smaller because they are huge!

I could not believe how busy my Aldi was. I am going to go back tomorrow to get the fold-up shovel if it has not gone already.

MumHadEnough · 11/06/2009 20:12

Gibba, thanks again for suggesting Stanwix Park btw, I'm booking it tomorrow

spokette · 11/06/2009 20:12

I bought the Kitchen stand last year and it is great.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 11/06/2009 20:13

After everyone warned that things do sell quickly, I was there at 9.10 this morning, the very earliest I could get there after dropping ds off at school, I was the only customer.

On the plus side it did mean someone helped me to the car with my two camping cupboards.

My Lidl had quite a bit of camping stuff left today (I think theirs was from either Mon 8 or Thu 4) inc self-inflating mattresses, picnic rugs, head torches etc so if your Aldi has sold out, make a side trip to Lidl

(they never had cupboards, stoves etc though)

MumHadEnough · 11/06/2009 20:17

Just about to put it up in a minute Spokette to try it out.

spokette · 11/06/2009 20:18

I have queued at my Aldi previously to get a bargain.

For their PCs and flat screen TVs, the queues are usually long and they tend to be sold out by 0930 hours.

I once left it until the afternoon to buy their steel boules set and they had all sold out so if I want something that I know will be popular, I make sure I get there first thing in the morning.

motherducky · 11/06/2009 20:28

ours had loads of folding shovels, but what are they for? Obviously digging - but why do you need to dig when you are camping? Bit confused.

does the tall cupboard have a solid top too? - it said so on the box, but I couldn't see one on the picture.

LilRedWG · 11/06/2009 20:46

Thanks tina - may drag DH back to get some.

JustKeepSwimming · 11/06/2009 20:49

Well MotherDucky, we've used ours in 2 ways (neither time in this country though):

digging car out of 'potholes' (euphemism)

digging holes for 'number 2' when out in the bush

as for in a standard uk campsite......

MumHadEnough · 11/06/2009 20:58

Well put up the camping kitchen .

Took ten minutes of dh laughing at me mind you, then he came and held one of the shelves for me and I managed to clip them all into place. I am so crap at these things!

Oh well, at least I know how to do it now. Took me ages to work out that the two alun key shaped things though are ground pegs. Dh had already worked that out too though and sat with a big grin on his face (pig that he is!).

Someone please come and tell me they're not ground pegs so I can laugh at him!

Insanity · 11/06/2009 21:00

We are off on our first family camping trip next month.

What are the folding shovels for.....do I need one?? I am tempted to buy one as they seem so popular and sold out I obviously need it?!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 11/06/2009 21:02

I've erected my cupboard, in it's bag it is probably the size and weight of some peoples tents.

Like it though, very roomy, needed quite a bit of manpower to get the poles in the corner thingies.

Have agreed that dp can put it up whilst I put up the tent, which he is not allowed to touch.

blithedance · 11/06/2009 21:04

Have never had a folding shovel. They seemed rather heavy and bulky to me - aren't they possibly for keeping in the car in case of snow?

For (ahem) No.2's when wild camping etc this is the sort of thing!

mzmum · 11/06/2009 21:38

I bought camping cupboard which is huge & fantastic, LED light, lanterns, rucksack, headlamps, clogs and waterproof foam mat thingies to use in our awning.....

Now.... the big question is, do I need the electric coolbox and is £34.99 a good price??? Going to France in August, will have electric hook up - I see someone has mentioned it has a 3 pin plug included - will it be useful to stop milk going off & stop butter melting etc.? Or should we just buy ice every day for our ridiculously enormous Coleman coolbox(presuming they sell ice)?????
Advice please, thanks.

Ponders · 11/06/2009 21:49

I would buy the plug-in type meself, having in the past had a hot holiday camping in France with just a coolbox - it just didn't do!

I would question though whether the Aldi one is big enough or good enough - do a bit of research first

mzmum · 11/06/2009 21:56

Uuuuummmm, that's what I was wondering Ponders. Whether it's actually a good deal or not. Thanks for the advice.

lunavix · 11/06/2009 22:12

I bought the camping table, the kitchen and the pack of two LED lanterns for the kids :D

I decided against the stove as the price isn't fantastic and it seems massive and bulky compared to ones I've looked at elsewhere...

There was two different camping cupboards at our aldi, one with four shelves for 29.99 and one with five for 24.99! Guessing last year stock???

And no 6 man tents boo!

MumHadEnough · 11/06/2009 22:31

mzmum, I think its a bargain compared with some of the ones I'd looked at. Its a decent size at 28L plus it has the mains lead too. Most of the ones I'd previously looked at only had 12v.

mzmum · 11/06/2009 22:34

Aaaahhh, thanks MumHadEnough. Maybe I'll go and look again.
