Camping Constipation: a universal or inherited affliction?

I suspect it is yet another sign that I am turning into my mother. She could never go. Packs of prunes were purchased, transported and consumed, with little effect.

I took sainsbury's nice prunes with me...

Somehow my bowels just know. You'd think all the fresh air and tea and striding purposefully about would help.

Do tell me, it's not just me.

Slubber, where are you going?
If you are back in N. Wales again can direct you to obscure public loos for a peaceful shit.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2008 20:52

ha ha ha ha @ trailer. I knew you would succumb, you camping kit junkie

Kitchen last minute, devil may care purchase. Tarp from aldi too damn big and I was concerned about horizontal rain. Took DH to Casey's for a "coffee" and "accidentally" had to walk past said kitchen tent ...

moondog hello! Just back for a week in beautiful Tudweiliog. Your crab man does not exist, or is indeed a hermit crab man. Campsite lady and post office lady both did a when I asked them for directions to local fishmonger.

Where is this lovely lav that you speak of (or is this also going to be another wild goose chase?)

There's something you can't ask for at the local Tourist Information desk eh Moondog?

moondog · 16/08/2008 20:56

He does!
But is just a tiny shop on a farm! I gave you his no! I was there about 6 weeks ago!

moondog · 16/08/2008 20:56

You could. I worked in one for years.
Loos in Clyynog Fawr, also ones in Tudweiliog.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2008 20:58

But there is no mobil coverage anywhere. And public phone a mighty trek away [wimp] and 20ps all saved up for showers and hot water for washing up.

I feel like I have let you down now.

BY GOD I AM GOING TO FING THIS BLESSED CRAB MAN AND BUY A CRAB FROM HIM IF IT KILLS ME.

we came home from last camping trip early because my ds went 24 hrs without doing a pee, it was very stressful, he is only 4, so he obviously isn't a camper!

moondog · 16/08/2008 21:00

Fuck it, tell me next time you come up and I will send you a bloody map!
Or phone as yuo are on yer way and he will save yuo crabs and give directions.

moondog · 16/08/2008 21:01

There will be a phone in the pub in Tudweiliog.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2008 21:02

oh aefondkiss. My mother used to bribe me and my sister to go to the loo when we camped in france. 1 centime for a wee, 2 centimes for a poo. My sister always bought licorice wheels with her stash which, now I am grown and understand the laxative effects of licorice, was a very cunning plan indeed.

moony, if you could give me the exact Ordinance Survey co-ordinates of your man then that would be good. I have a most excellent map

moondog · 16/08/2008 21:08

Will do.
Am in Bangladesh at mo. but home in 2 weeks so will catch you.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2008 21:11

Thank you.

We may be returning for last w/e in August. I will swing by the Tudweiliog lavs to try them out too

Ah yes camping constipation

I grew out of it actually, just got used to camping I think- so the trick is to camp more LOL

the state of the toilets does help; there were some really dodgy ones where we were this year (we were moved to the nice ones), ds4 took a dislike and is now back in nappies again- we finally got him trained at 5 (SN) and now we're back to square 1

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2008 21:23

Oh Peachy, that is a pain (to re-start potty training). I like your theory to camp more. Will put it to DH, although we have just spent all day repitching tent in garden to dry out (please don't comment re fools who buy real canvas), and packing all stuff away in garage.

The loos we just used were clean...but you never can get away from that drainy smell.

Peachy · 16/08/2008 21:26

pmsl at drying your tent- it happens with poly on wet ones too you know!

our tent now is bigger than the garden so dreading it LOL

SorenLorensen · 16/08/2008 21:28

Oooooh yes Have just got back from a week in Anglesey - had a lovely time, despite the rain, but I am so very glad to be back home, with my own toilet. I just can't 'go' when there are other people within earshot (especially gaggles of teenage girls straightening their hair and talking about boys just outside the door) so had to time it carefully for likely-to-be-deserted times of the day. ...and because my IBS had been so bad in the week before we went I decided to start taking mebeverine again in anticipation which, ahem, bungs things up at the best of times.

My Mum never used to be able to 'go' when we were on holiday and I used to mock...ah, see, what goes around comes around

GrinningGorilla · 16/08/2008 21:29

We used to go camping virtually every weekend and for two weeks in the summer when I was a kid. The longest I went without having a poo was 9 days, but a week at a time was fairly common.
We had a toilet tent with a chemical po and I'm sure you could be seen from the outside sitting on it.

Lucycat · 16/08/2008 21:29

tee hee at drying canvas tents in Northern England

our tent is too big for the garden too, luckily we have rich friens with a big garden if needed!

SorenLorensen · 16/08/2008 21:29

We have Wet Tent too - hanging from the beams in the kitchen. It was nearly dry and then it started to rain again just as we pulled all the pegs out.

Peachy · 16/08/2008 21:29

now, was Anglesey good? we were considerng the other day

moondog · 16/08/2008 21:29

Soren, very infrequently used loo just before you go on bridge. Also tonnes in hideous visitor centre in Llanfair PG.

SorenLorensen · 16/08/2008 21:31

We didn't go to Llanfair PG - I decided the photo of "Two Boys Standing by Railway Sign" was just too cheesy.

Aefondkiss · 16/08/2008 21:33

lol slubber at the bribery and your cunning sister!

I don't remember being loo averse as a young camper, but I did have extreme bladder control.
