Just asked DH (having just returned from our 5 rainy days) and he said:

Fan heater
Separate gazebo for cooking (or at the very least a sheltered cooking area - having tried to cook in a howling gale this morning)
Adequate lighting using electric hookup
Trailer to carry all the crap stuff
Kontiki
Hymer
Caravan...........

at which point I stopped listening!

go on you find a site and I'll be there! - what do other mn'ers require from their fantasy site?

QuintessentialShadows · 18/08/2008 22:26

Oh I know. I just came back in from a one hour cycle trip at near break neck speed (comparable of course, my first lone ride since for ever... So not at kid speed). The autom chill is definitely in the air. But we have had a sunny and warm day, and as I was looking out at the calm seas and the mountains, I know where I rather be than settling my youngest into his new nursery.... Tomorrow, I am headed for the hills, blue berry picking.

But I digress....

Have you this months camping magazine? Nice site (with many tent fields) by fabulous pub in the Peak District is featured.

It pricked my interest

Lucycat · 18/08/2008 22:29

ooh yes I saw that too - I'd never make my way back to the tent though, I'd be slumped in the pub doorway until dh came to find me with his head torch.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2008 22:30

...or we could all go and wild camp with QS in her amazingly glorious spot?

QuintessentialShadows · 18/08/2008 22:32

You would be very much welcome! But there is NO pub! Only the odd reindeer or sheep scaring the living daylights out of you as you stumble on them on the way out of the tent as you go for a nightly toilet run!

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2008 22:33

oh getaway LC, no way an Outwell Lake owner is ever found slumped anywhere. Surely you are just happiliy pissed, lying spreadeagled on your checkered carpet?

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2008 22:34

OMG you were scared by a reindeer. That is just so cool.

QS wins this years prize for coolest camping trip.

QuintessentialShadows · 18/08/2008 22:37

Well his antlers were huge, I nearly got caught in them, did not expect a reideer right outside my tent! That is the one time I regretted not having a wee bucket....

MummyItHurts · 18/08/2008 22:38

Phone number of nearest 5* hotel

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2008 22:40

If you were a full on survival Ray Mears wild camper you would have harnessed that reindeer with a fishing line and used his antlerrs for drying underpants on and a handy storage site for your loo roll.

QuintessentialShadows · 18/08/2008 22:45

Lol Lol!

We had a pair of antlers a few years ago, we found them when trekking in the mountains.

Our plan was to leave them in the middle of a popular London park at night, and see what news stories would ensue! Well, we didnt, the fitted so nicely on the shed, and we could hang things on it! Like buckets and spades for the sandpit.

QuintessentialShadows · 18/08/2008 23:10

Or we could be minimalist and just use the trees...

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2008 23:14

pah

trees schmees

seeker · 18/08/2008 23:15

My DP. The best extreme barbecuer ever. His Grilled Lemon Scallops in a Thunderstorm are to die for!

QuintessentialShadows · 18/08/2008 23:17

Would love barbequieng my catch. (would love a catch!)

Lucycat · 19/08/2008 15:25

I don't do carpet!

Slubberdegullion · 19/08/2008 15:34

but you want one to match your curtains don't you?

go on own up. You are a glamper

Slubberdegullion · 19/08/2008 15:58

I'lll eat another tin of M&S mince if you don't take one of these to France next year in your trailer.

Lucycat · 19/08/2008 16:12

lol - the dd's would love that! and no we have 'super duper PVC zip in groundsheet' and so a carpet would be so wrong to cover it - like having hardwood floors and putting this over it.

We did see one of these on an Italian car on the site - all the kids were in total awe of it and we all stopped to have anosey when they were 'collapsing' it!

Slubberdegullion · 19/08/2008 16:16

Whoa there lesley, I like that roof tent. Very funky and nice classic ridge line design

seeker · 19/08/2008 16:17

Did someone mention a camping magazine? I didn't know there was one - tell me more!

Slubberdegullion · 19/08/2008 16:23

It's called Camping (tres original). I buy it from my tesco extra, but will probably subscribe when the subscrition present is something I haven't got . Lots of campsite reviews. Gadget and tent reviews at the back.

excellent loo reading
