RIght, I'm a newby sp camper-could anything be more daunting! [grin]

Was desperate to camp throughout my childhood, but my mum couldn't bear it! Am now on a serious budget due to sp-dom, and dd has never been abroad. Going on my friends' wondeful childhood memories of French campsites etc have decided we will camp in France this summer (with some uk practice camps first!). My french is fine so that's not a prob, but am worried about my lack of camping expertise!

I know I need

!. Tent

1. Air beds
2. Sleeping bags
3. storm lanterns
4. Stove
5. Cool box
6. blankets, duvets, clothes etc.

And want a tent with separate sleeping compartments so she has the choice of going in on her own or coming in with me. Will she be ok in her own pod? And gathering I need a living area in case it tips down. I think it's pretty obvious that I need tips galore, please!!

Don't forget a corkscrew and a plastic wine glass (most supermarkets have them as summer approaches) - it's not the same out of an enamel mug.

Wow those camping kitchen things get really quite flash don't they. I'd worry my camp cooking doesn't quite live up to the expectations they'd set!

He he, I still don't have wine glasses in my bricks and mortar home! Never got round to buying any! Have plastic ones upstairs somewhere tho (remembers dimly ace premier picnic kit given at xmas one year by father but not been out since last summer-comes with real chopping board and linen napkins and prob weighs more than the tent!)

He he, I love my screw top wines! Can I start a riot here and ask what brands/models of tents you all have?

Ah yes, plastic glasses and stuff in supermarkets.

Has anyone else cooed over the outdoor crockery section of late? I got quite excited in Sainsbury's t'other day...

It not only has a shower, sally - it has room for a portaloo!

How would you get the water to the shower tho if there is only a cold tap? Wouldn't you freeze

I either have used wet wipes or have gone to ones where you put 10p's in to heat the water-the solar showers sound cool! We should write to the US people and ask them to import the shower cum portaloo into the UK due to high demand!
