Was desperate to camp throughout my childhood, but my mum couldn't bear it! Am now on a serious budget due to sp-dom, and dd has never been abroad. Going on my friends' wondeful childhood memories of French campsites etc have decided we will camp in France this summer (with some uk practice camps first!). My french is fine so that's not a prob, but am worried about my lack of camping expertise!

I know I need

!. Tent

  1. Air beds
  2. Sleeping bags
  3. storm lanterns
  4. Stove
  5. Cool box
  6. blankets, duvets, clothes etc.

And want a tent with separate sleeping compartments so she has the choice of going in on her own or coming in with me. Will she be ok in her own pod? And gathering I need a living area in case it tips down. I think it's pretty obvious that I need tips galore, please!!

Oh and looky looky at my fabulous camping plan

lucycat you may know the answer, being a geography nerd person

Slubberdegullion · 07/04/2008 22:05

nope still not delivered, awaiting side panel to come from beautiful Cabanon factory where the canvas is hand knitted by youthful french men.

Feelingbetter, camping can seriously damage your credit card, and cause you to accidentaly not tell your family you have bought unecessary crap stuff.

meebles · 07/04/2008 22:06

I never even thought of Eurocamp - we did that as kids and it was fantastic! We had the queen of tents, I was mightily impressed especially since we had a wardrobe.

Gosh there's a lot of you campers here isn't there? very friendly

I'm very excited since we're planning on getting back on the camping bandwagon this summer - this time with a 6month DD which will be interesting!

Feelingbetterslowly · 07/04/2008 22:09

Hmmm yes, am getting strange urges to tick "buy" on things already!

Oh that's a very elegant tent, Slubber - a proper tent. I mean, it's clearly not a patch on my Monty...but, for a not-Monty, it's really rather nice.

SorenLorensen · 07/04/2008 22:11

I just tried to put a picture of our tent on my profile but I can't do it. I've got pictures on already but I can't remember how/if I re-sized them. Never mind.

Slubberdegullion · 07/04/2008 22:11

yes ss, lightly glazed with oil from hard work with the canvas.

Must go to bed....although I doubt I'll sleep now with the Cabanon dudes at work image in my head.

Bloody hell camping threads almost never get smutty.

Feelingbetterslowly · 07/04/2008 22:18

Oh this is SO an excuse for me to buy things! The sweaty french men are luring me into saying "sod you eurocamp, come on sweet french man smelling tent" (and ikea camp bed!). If they throw a frenchman in I'll buy a Cabanon tomorrow!

I'd love a camp-bed. But I think that would be the straw that broke the car's suspension - dh did baulk slightly at the size of my camp kitchen. But it's sooo lovely. It has a cupboard and a little side table thingy, and a surface for preparing food, and a wind-shield.

Oh my god that kitchen sounds ace! Our car is the size of a fingernail-it cost £35 to tax!! Defo no campbeds for us

Oh my god I love the comments-your kitchen got a "blown away", but two cupboards gets a "naughty!" . Is ok or a major faux pas for single tent traveller to partake of wine? I thought it was a must for every camping hol but then thought I may look like a wino! . I still need to buy a book on camping etiquette!

SorenLorensen · 07/04/2008 22:37

Isn't it lovely? It came last week and I put it up in the kitchen and got ridiculously excited. It's like playing house, really, isn't it?

SorenLorensen · 07/04/2008 22:38

I think wine's compulsory, isn't it, sally?

Feelingbetterslowly · 07/04/2008 22:38

It so is! You have your very own home corner!
