Here's some infor on the local town - Castellane. It's beautiful and set in some amazing scenery, with great little restaurants, a decent supermarket and pharmacy.

The camp site is great for kids and I definitely want to drag DH down there.

As long as the place has got a decent pool you should be ok. Where I go in France (Cantal/Correze border, about 20 mins from Dordogne) there are plenty of lakes (or rather barraged rivers) which have their own 'beachy' bit, if you get sick of the pool. As someone who spent my childhood by the beach, I actually find lakes and rivers far, far more relaxing and enjoyable. A load of these lakes have facilities for canoeing, rowing boats etc, and hire fishing stuff (if that's what your boys like, my dd loves fishing )

I agree re the pool thing. We went to the Vendee last year and the dc's were not that bothered about going to the beach - though the eldest did enjoy that the sea was warm enough to swim in.

It can actually be a relief not to be dealing with sand everywhere from a parents pov too!
