the river is lovely, lots of canoeing type activities but this was pre dd. and off course the place is swarming with smug older couples speaking bad french and congratulating themselves for eating foie gras.

DualCycloneCod · 26/02/2008 09:21

Wondering the same - I'm a beach gal too, kids love it, but DH isn't bothered and fancies the countryside this year. I think prob bearable as long as you're near a river with good swimming.

DualCycloneCod · 26/02/2008 09:22

we haev mates goign to la rive near bicarosse btu we cant get a gaff big enough for long enough

OP posts:
ggglmpp · 26/02/2008 09:23

we went to look one year and yes, was full of said smug foie grasers

Sheherazadethegoat · 26/02/2008 09:23

if it is countryside and river you want the Tarn is much better and less 'britishy'.

ggglmpp · 26/02/2008 09:24

bicarrosse? too near me

DualCycloneCod · 26/02/2008 09:26

oh fgs, just go to brittany and have a nice time near a beach.

ggglmpp · 26/02/2008 09:27

yes, go to brittany

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 09:29

Went here last year and was lovely. Great river for swimming, pools, bar/restaurants and about a five minute walk from Castellane.

castille · 26/02/2008 09:38

Yeah, come to Brittany

If you don't mind the beach in the drizzle like last year

Tommy · 26/02/2008 09:42

we went to Loire one year and swam in the river - it was lovely

ggglmpp · 26/02/2008 09:43

Yes, we were in brittany a couple of years ago. The evenings are cold, arent they?

Sheherazadethegoat · 26/02/2008 09:45

the evenings were fecking freezing last year but we managed to have good weather during the day which was quite an achievement last year.

ggglmpp · 26/02/2008 09:46

I would like to houseswap and am currently trying to convince dh....

ishouldbeironing · 26/02/2008 09:51

Cod we have been to Dordogne for the past three years.
Kids were 13 10 and 10 we didnt miss beach at all as the kids loved to stay around the pool where their mates were.
I also preferred the pool cos my 3 are strong swimmers and always insist on swimming in the sea and I am a nervous wreck constantly watching that they havent been swept away.
Kids were desperate to go back to Dordogne this year - but we said no

DualCycloneCod · 26/02/2008 09:55

where?

OP posts:
castille · 26/02/2008 09:56

ggg - can be, as can the days!

Seriously, we've had some luvvvverly summers here, but when they are bad they are horrid. Much like the UK.

House swap? Great idea. Not sure anyone would want ours though

DualCycloneCod · 26/02/2008 09:57

we went to La Palombiere - keycamp

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 10:07

Here's the Eurocamp link to the site, with a little more info. It's in Provence, notthe Dordogne, but was great.

DD and I flew to Nice and crashed the in-laws' caravan holiday (they drove down with the van a few days before). We had a pitch near the river and it was in a very beautiful area, with beached lakes near by (about a 25 min drive).

TheHonEnid · 26/02/2008 10:08

we had no beach at easter last y ear

if you have a good pool its fine
