Hide a spare towel for yourself

Pack extra pants, socks and keep them hidden until kids desperate

keep a set of clothes in the car so that you always have something dry.

Never mind the rain, see what the weather forecast says about wind.
That is what I wish we had done before this weekend

Oh, and don't forget the most important box of stuff.

You cooked for 21? [impressed]

Peachy · 06/08/2007 11:22

on the first day we always locate a bookshop and let them choose one each, gives them something to do whenever a quiet moment is needed- and works remarkably well!

let them wear shoes that can be rinsed under the tap- crocs, jellies whatever.

relax a bit about dirt- it washes off!

A cheapo asda savers rubber doormat in front of the tent give a dry aplce for kids to remove dirty wet outdoor wear without drenching / muddying inside of tent

Sainsburys sell those hessian bags for a £1 in the reusable carrier section- fab for anything like plates etc as they are environment friendly, cheap, and water runs through them soc an be hosed down.

I love cooking on a campsite- our gridlde can do several steaks / fish at once which islovely with good bread and salad or new potatoes (done in buttered foil on the griddle).

filthymindedvixen · 06/08/2007 11:24

oh god this thread is making me feel guilty as I should be packing no for a week's camping (sigh, it's never all going to fit in...)

How many pairs of trews/t-shirts for 2 boys do you think?

My tip. Take pillows. And earplugs.

Peachy · 06/08/2007 11:28

I take five of everything and plan to wash midweek if there's a launderette

filthymindedvixen · 06/08/2007 11:36

oh Peachy. Please come and pack for me. I'll pay you...
I think it's just the fact that you need eveything from Factor 50 sunscreen to waterproff trousers and pola fleeces in this country which I find so hard.

Oh just remembered, I need to buy marshmallows

sugarfree · 06/08/2007 11:48

Hijack.
FMF,will we be seeing you and your tribe on the 17th-20th at Escot Park?

filthymindedvixen · 06/08/2007 11:51

Hello there Sugarfree mate! Ohhh yes...we are setting off for cornwall next weekend then travelling up to exeter on friday morning...we are in camper van field this year [I Fear Change Emoticon]

See you at the bar for Mumsnet's most exclusive little meet-up??

filthymindedvixen · 06/08/2007 11:52

I still have your mobile (unless it's changed in the past year?)

MegaLegs · 06/08/2007 11:55

I have had a big clothes sort out today and made an attempt to get the house sorted before we hit cornwall on Sat >.

Got new chairs and a hooj windbreak yesterday ( wow, saw some amazing tents at the camp shop)and off into town for new cagoules and torches for the boys.

So much to do, want to clean out car too so it starts off nice.

I put all of our clothes in a big old fashione suitcase so it's easy to find everything. Also allocate every one a pocket in the tent to keep all there stuff in.

sugarfree · 06/08/2007 12:04

Wooooohooooooo!!!!!
Dance,woman,DANCE!!!
We're aiming to leave dead early this year, gates open at 9am.(Theory is "dead early",practice possibly somewhat different, but I certainly don't want to be spending 2 hours searching for beer in the Devon countryside this year.)
The campervan field eh? There's posh!
Of course we will have a meet up,and we must get the menfolk together too.
(mobile still the same)

filthymindedvixen · 06/08/2007 12:20

Sugarfree - you can visit us in the campervan field, We have the word's biggest awning, don't cha know!

Do Dancing!!

Beetroot · 06/08/2007 12:20

my kids clothes seem to be everywhere within minutes - ideas to help solve this? Atpresent they have their own ruck sack - they are older and shoule know better

OP posts:
JARM · 06/08/2007 12:26

beety - pop up laundry baskets, i got some in poundland or similar, that had 3 sections.

was perfect for seperating the kids clothes.

filthymindedvixen · 06/08/2007 12:27

Wow JARM that's inspired!

Beetroot · 06/08/2007 12:32

explain in more detail Jarm

OP posts:
JARM · 06/08/2007 12:37

basically, they are laundry baskets that pop up! they bend and fold down to a small circle and have their own little bag or clips to keep them together.

3 sections side by side....

will have a hunt on internet and see if i can see something similar!

Peachy · 06/08/2007 12:37

Tell you waht we use for clothes- you know those big blue bags you get in Ikea? well they sell those very cheaply, and they're perfect- slot in the spaces needed in the car, and its easy to take an extra for dirties as they fold down so small
