Hide a spare towel for yourself

Pack extra pants, socks and keep them hidden until kids desperate

like this but ours was smaller

Beetroot · 06/08/2007 12:41

Oh I see what you mean - I guess they are easier to just chcuk stuff in rather than having to keep stuff foldded in the rucksacks.

I have some of those blue bags but as the kids are older the rucksacks seem to be the easiest as they can pack them themsleves - I think they need to learn to keep the place tidy - HAH!

yes that does look good. I could have one for washing as well to be chucked in.

OKAY

top tip

dry your towels in a closed car on the back of seats

Most things taste fab to me when sitting round a wee fire. . .

roisin · 06/08/2007 13:14

Where did you go Beetroot?

Beetroot · 06/08/2007 14:41

I suggested that the mate and her dh who were doing fuck all go find some thing decent while we look after their kids and cook for all of them!!

We went to \linkPwww.riverdart.co.uk\river dart}

Looks great Beetroot, especially the activities.

The boys are doing Daycamps this week up at Windermere with an escorted bus service. They are picked up at the end of the street at 8.30 am, and return home at 5.45 tired, wet, muddy, and very happy!

Beetroot · 06/08/2007 20:36

Roisen that sounds fantastic - my boys would love it

Kbear · 07/08/2007 20:58

beety - how many pitches on that site? is it massive? It looks great from the website.

Beetroot · 08/08/2007 08:34

I ti s big but is spread out.

We went in The Walled Garden, which is smaller but you have to walk to the facilities. I prefer that to loads of people. In the walled garden you can pitch yor tent to you are looking at the woods in some of the spaces.

My top tip ............

Book into a friendly B & B instead - think of a comfy bed and not having to trek across a campsite with your loo roll in order to do a wee or a poo never understood the attraction of that tbh.

If you are really set on camping, don't do what we did this year, left our mobiles in the car overnight - caused alarm to go off at 3am and 5am really helped everyone to have a good nights sleep. Bet the rest of the campsite were overjoyed when we beat a hasty retreat that morning

sandyballs · 08/08/2007 10:38

Ah, that's interesting to read beety - we're off to that river dart camp site for the first time this weekend. Can't wait. Is there loads for 6 year olds to do? As I know you have older children?

Beetroot · 08/08/2007 12:24

ohh yes loads. thelake is great with the pirate ship
the pool
allthe climbing stuff
boats

and you can jusgt sit under the trees and read

sandyballs · 08/08/2007 13:23

Beetroot · 08/08/2007 14:20

Fennel · 08/08/2007 15:21

My top tip is watch the weather forecast and ONLY go if it's good weather. That way you may have slightly fewer camping trips but they'll all be pleasant ones.

ernest · 08/08/2007 16:05

re keeping stuff organised, which also helps massively with packing/unpacking - have one of those blue ikea bags per person/category, so for us, each child has one, plus an empty one for dirty stuff, one for air beds & pump, one for toys/entertainment, one for beach/outdoor stuff etc, so everything can be kept tidy in right place, easy for kids to get to their own stuff and keep it more or less tidy, and easy to unpack, as all already organised.

other top tip keep towels & jackets in car. so if have rainy day, always got stuff with you, plus they keep drier in car and tent less cluttered. Oh, and as someone else said, a bag in car with 1 emergency change of clothes per person.

ernest · 08/08/2007 17:00

other vital equipment - a 5 litre jerry can plus one of these

Beetroot · 08/08/2007 17:29
