iuseantiageingstuff · 08/07/2007 16:23

Mercy · 08/07/2007 16:24

Filly - I think it's a beautiful looking tent!

(agree that it's set up to look so romantic!) It does look great though.

It is carvas, it will look wonderful but is an utter sod to get dry. and if you put away even the teensiest bit wet, it will go mouldy and you can never shift the marks.

And every time you see the marks you will curse yourself

Spend the money on some thermarest matresses instead!

Blandmum · 08/07/2007 16:26

and at 5M diameter, some UK campsites will say it is too big for their pitches

PandaG · 08/07/2007 16:30

and canvas, if anything touches the side it will leak

fillyjonk · 08/07/2007 16:32

hmm

but it says it is water and mould resistant

and it looks nice

Canvas is a pita, isn't it? I was getting swept along with Filly's dream there!

Still looks good though!

SeaSalty · 08/07/2007 16:42

martianbishop is right about the canvas being a total pain to get dry

It brings back vivid memories of camping with the guides and some of the old bell tents use to smell really horrible

How about this!

Mercy · 08/07/2007 16:48

Just for you Filly

canvas galore

Mercy · 08/07/2007 16:49

especially the accessories

Blandmum · 08/07/2007 17:11

I do love the look of canvas tents and have some serious hankering issues!

But I have to keep telling myself that they take an age to dry (which they do)

The canvas Outwell tents are fantastic, but cost a packet and would weigh a ton

moo · 08/07/2007 17:12

I'll tell you why...because it's never going to stop raining this blardy summer

moo · 08/07/2007 17:12

(it is pretty though)

fillyjonk · 08/07/2007 17:24

oh god STOP IT

I NEED a yurt and have done for some time but have car issues

OP posts:
fillyjonk · 08/07/2007 17:24

god this is cool

would prefer not to wear the braces and jodphurs though

OP posts:
Blandmum · 08/07/2007 17:25

also at 22 pound wt not the lightest thing to heft around.

Look, I'm talking you down, girl, talking you down.

I know the allure of canvas, but it is a PITA to take care of. If you look after it a good one should last decades, but think of the drying!

moo · 08/07/2007 17:26

Hey, you could pretend to be Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman

Blandmum · 08/07/2007 17:27

and dress like this!

fillyjonk · 08/07/2007 17:29

heres the problem mb

we have a big Victorian staircase and seldom camp more than an hour or two from home

so drying has NEVER been a problem.

i also want one of these, btw

I do have instructions for making them, in an old, hand bound, hippy book passed onto me by my ex-hippy, now-tory parents

Blandmum · 08/07/2007 17:33

the smock doesn't put you off at all????

Heavy to handle and put up

fillyjonk · 08/07/2007 17:34

oh no

you can get lovely lightweight smocks nowadays, in brynylon (sp?) and all sorts
