Where can I buy a small kitchen knife, with a safety cover, for chopping vegetables when camping?

Does such a thing exist?

I want a small chopping knife that has a cover on it that cannot be easily removed. Any ideas?

I got one in Tesco but the brand is fusion, it's got a magnetic strip to keep the rigid plastic sleeve on it but probably wouldn't stop a determined toddler IYSWIM

I can't help but put a call out for SallyStrawberry, The Camping Queen.

She'll probably be able to help.

My mum used to have an old cashbox that she kept all the sharp things in when we went camping. (We were very curious little monkeys). You could try a variation on this with a very stiff tuppaware pot?

yes but my case is also a sharpening case so you will always have a sharp knife to hand and it's fully tanged so no wobbly handle. so there

CarGirl · 07/05/2007 21:25

the fusion one is a sharpening thingy too. perhaps locked cash box for all dangerous and important things whilst camping - matches and the like too?

is tanged a word? i love it!

Furball · 07/05/2007 21:29

The pampered ched childs knife has a serrated edge for cutting but isn't sharp. Very clever

ekra · 07/05/2007 21:32

LL - your £.95 knife looks fine to me.... thank you

Safety cash box sounds like a more sensible idea though with a 1 year old and 4 year old.

Perhaps I will buy both of these and the £13.95 knife to keep everyone happy.

Thank you!

i think in knife terms you say full tang but i like tanged better it means the blade runs solid from tip through to the end of the handle

AitchTwoOh · 07/05/2007 21:37

wonderful. it's my new favourite word.

Cargirl - yeah a cash box is great - until one of the kids nicks the keys and loses them

elasticbandstand · 07/05/2007 21:50

ho about penknife from milletts?

Tommy · 07/05/2007 22:03

we got one last year with a veggie peeler at one end and a knife with a cover on it at the other. We use it for picnics. I've a feeling I bought it in Wilkinsons or Asda - not a specialist camping shop anyway.

CarGirl · 07/05/2007 22:13

perhaps rule of comaping is that you keep said keys attached to you at all times......along with a spare loo roll

tubismybub · 07/05/2007 22:14

oh well i suppose cheap tat is fine for camping

glad to provide you with a pleasing word aitch

tubismybub · 07/05/2007 22:17

oh went to look at bongo's too this weekend aitch they're great despite the ridiculous name

AitchTwoOh · 07/05/2007 22:18

i know! i want one too! i had a look at MB's website. you are leading me completely astray...

tubismybub · 07/05/2007 22:22

We had a test drive and DS shouted bongo bongo the whole time and sobbed when he had to get out
