Green Man - family field or no?

Hello, grateful if anyone has been and can advise.

Am taking DD9 to this festival in a couple of weeks. I'm wondering whether to set up camp in the family field or not. I think I'd almost prefer to deal with late night noise than other people's kids at 6 am but am a bit clueless...! Guidance please...

I went last year before I had kids so camped in the general camping bit, there were still lots of families camping there, and it was (compared to other festivals) not too bad at night. It's a great festival, very friendly.

We'll be in the family field, but there's about 16 adults and an enormous amount of kids aged between 3 and 9. I didn't find the family field too noisy last time, and there were a few things set up nearby to entertain the kids. I've camped in the normal camping before and that was absolutely fine, until the year we ended up beside the only late night campsite revellers on the whole site.

As your DD is 9, she's unlikey tomake the sort of noise that'll piss off your neighbours in the early morning, so the choice is yours. Both are great.

I'm excited too!

We went last year and by the time we got there, midday on the Friday, the family camping was full.
We camped just beyond it, near the camper cams and it was fine, no problems.

I meant to add that the atmosphere is very laid back and friendly compared to other festivals I've been to, I guess the crowd are slightly older, so less noisy all night partying.

Oh thanks all, so good to read some more tips.

We are going on Thursday as I want to see Anna Meredith so hopefully shouldn't be chockablocka by then.

Are thd camping fields level? Can not abide pitching on a slant Blush I am a shit camper...

The noise issue was mostly her being woken up at cracking of dawn as she is weird. Sleeps like a lump of concrete till about 5am and then any significant noise after that, ping, awake. I don't fancy a 5 am start!
More questions, sorry, do you/would you leave a solo 9yo alone at activities while I go off to listen to music or is she too young? It's just me and her and her appetite for indie and although folk erm, isn't as strong as mine ...

Ryan Adams (hence my username-I'm a little obsessed!) and Conor Oberst. Go and see them both and report back pleaseGrin. I have tickets to both later in the year but to see both in a weekend would have been amazing!

could she read in bed from 5am?

I think I would probably leave a confident 9y/o at an activity, but not on her own in front of a band. But the activity rules might say you can't leave her, or at least must stay in eyesight.

She doesn't read for pleasure, ever, I'm not sure I produced her :) I will take colouring/drawing. Good point about the rules. I will check when we get there

That is very good news Moogdroog. A flat bed is not an unreasonable request I think, although I frequently see people on campsites pitched on quite vertiginous (to my eyes) slopes. Why?? How??? How is that a good time away? People are weird.

It'll either be great or terrible, one or the other. Either way it'll be a memorable bonding experience for me and DD...

Hope so Moogdroog. Will report back. I'd like a regular festival to look forward to and the biggies like Glasto don't do it for me..Hopefully it'll become a tradition ...

If you camp in the family bit you are less likely to have people smoking weed and being really drunk 😵
So I would definitely camp in the family area even if there is the chance of babies etc.
Despite that it's a great family festival and you will have an awesome time, we took ds when he was 4 and we loved it

Hello, I am also going to Greenman on Thursday for the first time with a 10 year old! We could only get the orange car park as the blue one has sold out (which I hear is the closest to the family camping?) so where we camp will depend on the weather and how far we need to lug all our stuff! Just looked at the weather and it looks much more promising now than it did a week ago! :)
