Ohhhhright!

If you go in august you have to go to Challans for their festival. It is fab, and free. the whole town is a fair, loads of things for the kids to do, all the locals dress in 1900 costume there are antique bike races, the fire bregade dress up and take out the oldest kit etc, you can eat loacl food and drink the local wine with the locals. Totaly fab! Masses of craft stuff, great fun.

Hire pedalos at Apremont and go past the castle down the river and then have a picnic!

Drive across the sea bed to Noirmoutier!

So many fab things to do. You have to get Angela Bird's guid book. Very good value!

"Masses of craft stuff, great fun. "

the dsses wodul look at that and hteir hearts woudl sink

Blandmum · 11/11/2006 20:13

It is good fun, slides shaped like chilkens and ducks, animals in the streets, try your luck games that isvove smashing eggs. Horse and cart rides (you pay for these)

The locals all eat on long benches in the streets, you have to drink wine! Farm machinery for them to try.... all period stuff so it is risk a finger time.

It si good fun. Not at all 'worthy'. and cos it is all free, when you get fed up you go. But it makes for an interesting morning

they would love the Velo rail at comeqquiers....a railways trach that you cycle a cart along! you have to book in advance for this, it is very popular

boboggglimpopo · 11/11/2006 20:31

You can come and meet me Cod - I am an easy drive from the Vendee.

Royan is a damn fine town, bloody good restuarants and great beaches for the kids.

Blandmum · 11/11/2006 20:33

can I come too?

We are going to the vendee next summer too!

boboggglimpopo · 11/11/2006 20:36

Do, do.... I am a bomb down the autoroute away.....

Blandmum · 11/11/2006 20:38

Do you know, until know I had no idea of where you lived?

I love this part of France, great climate, fantastic beaches, wonderful people and FRENCH!

Sitting in cafes and resturants and having to use my rusty French! Love it !

boboggglimpopo · 11/11/2006 20:41

I am further south - a couple of hours from Royan, bit closer to La Rochelle. And yes, love it.

Camping at Pyla or Archachon or Cap Ferret is very good.

TheHighwayCod · 12/11/2006 13:53

no blardy availaiblilty

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 13:55

Bugger, I had the same problem year before last. have you tried with Keycamp....they have vans there?

helenhismadwife · 12/11/2006 15:25

Hiya Bobbin

where are you, we are in France as well about hour and a half inland from La Rochelle between Limogues and Poitiers.

Its a fantastic country there are loads of campsites round here and loads to see and do

TheHighwayCod · 12/11/2006 15:34

aha no! have rejigged dates and we are BOOKED

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 15:37

fab!

I am so pleased that you are sorted

I can also recoemnd a supurb farmhouse B and B on the way down in Normandy if you like!

The Martian bespoke holiday service at your service!

You have to get the Angela Bird book, it is very useful for all sorts of extra stuff, she has a website too.

The campsite really is as nice as it looks on the website. Very 'posh'

All the camping et cstels sites are

TheHighwayCod · 12/11/2006 15:38

think e
we will bomb it
how long is the drive?

we are going on the fast craft

TheHighwayCod · 12/11/2006 15:38

angelas i on amazon wish list

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 15:43

Where to? Cherborgue? It rakes us 3.5/ 4 hours from Normandy. It would take about 8 hours from calais.

I can tell you all the nicest supermarkets!

There is a fabbo one with a terrific resturant (I shit you not) in Ollone sur Mer. We go there for lunch, the kids love it! Self service but the food is exccelet, no waiting, wood fire cooked pizza, quiche to die for, can't buy a single glass of wine, you have to buy a carafe....my sort of place!

TheHighwayCod · 12/11/2006 15:58

we arent calaiing no we are cherbourg
ont eh campsite review site they colain of " late night noise" and a small chop...?

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 16:03

tbh you will always get some noise at night...it carries, and if you are in a tent it can be quite noticable.

But you will be in the the posh people in the 'vans so don't worry.

You can't havea busy site with lots going on and also have it quiet.

We go to a smaller site that is less busy, in part of that reason.

Far too many people go back each year for it to be dodgy

TheHighwayCod · 12/11/2006 16:37

yes this is a code J supplement and hte ohter one was C so it muct be pricier and better inmfo

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 16:39

If you want more revoews go to

reviews from people on UK campsite....a great independent site for camping etc
